DAMN DAM

It would be quicker to say who didn’t go into the

dams but here we go!

Marilyn went in from the 4th, Bushy went in from

the 3rd, Tony went in from the 9th, Kerry from the

14th. There were others but they were so grouped

it was hard to discern who was in & who was not!

The Johnsons both had a turn on the 5/14th.

I meself went in from the 6th. Why not, nothing

else was happening. Did it again today at Vets too!

John Short went in from the 15th.

Mac Adlam went in from the 4th

The bunkers on the other hand were kind to most

of us!

Les Bennett didn’t get past the ladies on 5.

One of our ladies had some tree trouble….no not

with a tree but with her cart. She run into the tree

near the 2nd tee & couldn’t work out why it

wasn’t moving the cart that is. She soon got the

drift so to speak!

Well people it has finally

happened, grab a mask, wear it

when in the Club House.

That is the rule for now, as we

know, it can change anytime.

Please be Covid aware it is in your best interest as

well as ours, distancing, washing of hands using

sanitiser & registering when you enter the club

house.

Inside and Out

Jan Leader threw a shoe on course. Her sole (soul)

was flapping she said, we hunted around & found

an elastic band & she was back together again! We

had such a lot of fun.

Chris Bush was having a good time with 4 out of

bounds, he did spread it out a bit though. He also

had a good hit from just off the 6th green to the 5th

green…...show off!

I was having a good game too until the 9th when I

got inside the pin shot but it was so close & I didn't

have a flat marker that I thought it be best to

continue on. Lost that one eh! The truth is I didn’t

want to take it from Barb Brian! Yep, yep!

Chris Fenn decided her ball needed a rest so she

gave it a hit & it landed in the back of my cart, how

she managed it we are still at a loss to know!

Kerry Styles wasn’t sure whether to raise ‘em or

lower ‘em! Talking about his pants, he was adjust-

ing his apparel & we thought he was going to drop

his daks! He gave us a cheeky grin & said I will if

you want. No thanks seen one seen them all!

I played with Les, John Short & Peter Hughes at

the Carnival & we had a great time even though the

golf left a lot to be desired. A lot of good shots

went amiss mainly because the grass was to

plentiful owing to the wonderful rain. The men on

the other hand very rarely touched the grass except

to land their ball near the green, some pretty

impressive shots there.

The Carnival was a great success everyone had a

great time it was fantastic to see so many of our

former members there.

There was one incident that was noted by someone

who will not be named. It concerned someone who

had trouble with the cart trailer, it seems this person

forgot to put the ramps up & didn’t notice it till

someone let this person know by phone! We are

still trying to work out how she reversed out of her

parking spot.

GAMES DAYS & STARTING TIMES

PREFERRED LIE - BUNKERS

At the moment there is a preferred lie in the bunkers,

place, not drop, within a card length, the ball must

not be placed forward! Must be back or to the side

no closer to hole! This has been passed as a local

rule by the Match Committee.

The Vets got into the

mess at the back of

the 5/14 green & the

paddock side garden.

A great job it looks

great, thank you to

Greig, Kevin &

Stretch for doing a

good job of planting

& mulching the

gardens

The Vets tended to the Geoff Macklin gardens at

the back & side of the 5/14th green. It was mulched

& some lovely desert roses were planted. It looks

lovely. Kevin said he felt a chill during the planting,

he was told of Geoff’s funeral later & Kev said I

think he had approved of the work. Nice work men!

There are people who are members of our club who

do things, little things that we don’t see, but none-

theless they are doing stuff not wanting accolades

just getting it done. I happened to see one such

person on a Sunday who had emptied the bins on

the verandah, his name is Greig Pullinger, it’s not a

biggy I know, but he did a service. Another is John

Horwood who is taking our bottles & cans to the

depot, without any big deal. In my book they are the

spine of the club. No fuss just get in there & do it!

Thanks fellas!

Ian Anderson, ‘Stretch’ for the uninitiated has been

making sure the gardens have been watered, the

desert roses have come up a treat. Nice job Stretch!

AFTER

BEFORE It is still out there people so be careful in your

distancing & use of sanitiser at all times. Log in at

the Club House & no handshaking. We have

become a bit complacent of late so we need to

revisit the rules once more. 1.5metre distancing, &

no crowding at the bar. We have done well so far

so lets not blot our copybook!

I saw something that was pretty unsettling on a

Vets day recently. I could hardly believe my eyes

when there he was driving Tony Borg’s cart. Yes,

it was Ray Suter! I asked Tony what had possessed

him & he replied I don’t know but it won’t happen

again!

These boys were happy with their win, it didn’t have to be a first place. Captain Andrew said they

needed an extra in their team to pull off the first place, he said he was volunteering, too late they

cried! The boys were happy with a second!

Greig wanted this photo to

send to Tex!

Could there be a reason?

Most definitely!

SOAP BOX - YOUR OPINIONS

Whilst on the subject of thank you’s some get more than others and I would like to

mention some of the others that do a great job with no accolades what so ever.

Namely; Ian Brady, Kevin Bird & John Short who are out there mowing, watering &

doing whatever else is needed. Then there is Andy Pearce and Dennis Miller who have

been doing the pin shot holes & tees for such a long time, no one knows of these people

but they should, because they are doing a great job with no thanks at all. There are

many more too like Stretch, Kevin & Greig who just come in & do what is necessary without a

fuss. John Horwood is another who goes about cleaning up getting rid of bottles and cans as well

as Craig who helps out 2 days a week. So remember there are many people who make this Club

such a success.

So that is my opinion…...what is yours?

These two young men were once our little juniors some years

ago. Jack Day & Dylan Beusel Now they are all growed up! Jack

is turning pro next year & Dylan has a family. It was so great to

see them at our Carnival.

BURRUM MIXED CARNIVAL Sponsored by HERVEY BAY GOLF DRIVING RANGE

Wow what a great day had by all at the Carnival. We had the pleasure of

having Howard Smith the Wide Bay Secretary there as well as other

forward thinkers of the community. It was so good to see so many of our

ex players there too & for me the highlight of the day was to see two of our

juniors turn up now all grown up & in the case of Dylan Beusel he is a

regular skyscraper! Jack Day was there also, he is turning professional next

year. So proud of both those boys or should I say men! Both Dylan & Jack

said to me the last time we were here we couldn’t drink! Also there were Merv Howells & Allan

McGeorge who were long standing members of old, steady on not too old now! Len Stallard, John Knight,

sorry if I have missed any out, it was a great friendly crowd! The above picture is of the huge TV in the

club house. Many thanks to Neil on getting the grant for it & the glass washer which will be installed as

soon as it arrives.

Dylan & Jack, & in the corner outside the window, is Merv

Howells. Both he & Alan had to abandon the cart after some

trouble but they stayed around for the end. Always a stayer

the pair of them. They used to look good in pink too just a

little dress up & a dare! We have missed you.

There is one sad note we are losing Ray Maskell to Macleay

Island in a couple of weeks. Not sure if we should be happy

or sad. No, we are happy! Best of luck to you & yours.

RAFFLE

And the winner is…….

Leslie Irvine from Monto,

Barb Brian’s honorary

daughter!

Leslie was too shy to get herself

in the photo, yes I said shy!

HOW TO RUN A COUNTRY GOLF CLUB

1. Don’t come to the committee meeting, but, if you do come, come late. If the weather doesn’t

suit you, don’t even think of coming.

2. If you do attend a meeting, find fault with the committee and other members.

3. Another good plan is to talk loudly to your friends whilst the chairman is speaking. This

helps him and stimulates his thoughts.

4. Never accept an office, as it is easier to criticise than to do things.

5. Nevertheless get sore if you are not appointed on the committee but if you are, attend the

meetings very rarely.

6. If asked by the chairman to give your opinion regarding some important matter, tell him you

have nothing to say.

7. After the meeting tell everyone how things ought to be done.

8. Do nothing more than absolutely necessary, but when other members roll their sleeves up

and do everything in their power to help things along howl that the club is run by a clique.

9. Hold back your subscription or better still don’t pay it at all.

10. Don’t trouble about getting newcomers to join the club, let the secretary do it, he does

bugger-all & has plenty of time.

WORKING BEE AT GARDEN

house, Ian aka Stretch Anderson,

Kevin Leader & Greig Pullinger,

they weeded mulched & cleaned

the area up. A new garden bed has

been made at the back of the club

house too. Rae McCliskie also

donated some plants too.

Very nice job, thank you.
