ACTIVITY 1:

High Tea at the Langham!

VENUE: The Langham Sydney, 89-113 Kent St, NSW 2000

ACTIVITY: Students have the opportunity to dine at the luxurious 5–star Langham hotel in Sydney. Located in the heart of the Rocks district, The Langham is famed as the birthplace of the traditional Afternoon Tea, direct from their London flagship hotel. A custom Afternoon Tea menu will be on offer, served on Wedgewood fine tea ware. All pastries, truffles and macarons, are crafted by head pastry Chef Prashanth Krishan, at the Langham’s in-house Patisserie. The menu on the day is to include a set selection of:

ACTIVITY 2:

SUSHI MAKING and

TEPPANYAKI JAPANESE RESTAURANT EXPERIENCE

VENUE

School (Hospitality Kitchen), then train and walk to Hisshou Restaurant, Sydney. SESSION 1

In this session you will learn how to make different types of SUSHI and how to attractively plate this dish. Then of course, eat what you have made! REQUIREMENTS

Full school uniform

School apron (if you still have this from Year 7 & 8)

Shoes – full covered school shoes

2 tea towels

1 dish cloth SESSION 2

In this session you will travel to the Hisshou Teppanyaki Restaurant in George St, Sydney and experience ‘teppanyaki’ for lunch. Be ready for a great fun experience! At the end of the day, students will be dismissed in Sydney to make their own way home or they can come back to Burwood Station. COST

$55 per person – includes cost for all ingredients for sushi at school and lunch at Hisshou Teppanyaki Restaurant (including complimentary soft drink). ACTIVITY 3:

2019 Sam Lewis Peace Awards - Workshop

VENUE:

The Sam Lewis Peace Awards were established in 1983 by the NSW Teachers Federation to promote peace in our schools and communities. They are named after the teacher and Peace Activist Sam Lewis who died in 1978.

VENUE: School Music Area / Recording Studio

THE DAY

Students will work in teams to create multimedia entries for the Sam Lewis Peace Awards.

Win a Grand Prize of $500 or other prizes from a $4000 pool by entering this year’s Sam Lewis Peace and Environment Awards, open to students in NSW public schools and post-school educational sites

Theme “Peace is the gift of understanding. Schools are places of peace.” The importance of working together to promote peace and the benefit this can bring to the community.

Entries can be comprised of video, still image, scrolling text, original music and performance, spoken word (including poetry). The aim is to combine these into a video format for entry in these awards.

LUNCH:

Pizza and drink provided.

STUDENT REQUIREMENTS

School uniform, other clothes if needed in production

USB at least 8GB

A collection of still images – relating to the theme. These can be done on the day.

A story, poem or speech for recording “live” voice over. This can also be done on the day.

Original songs, music – to be recorded as part of an entry. These can also be created on the day.

ACTIVITY 4:

Darkroom Photography

THE DAY

Be swept away by the romance of working in the darkroom! If you have ever wondered how people created photographic images without using a camera, then this workshop is for you.

Students will be introduced to analogue photography and how to develop images in the darkroom.

At the end of the day, students will take home original photographic prints that they have developed.

Pizza is provided for lunch.

REQUIREMENTS

Students are to bring their laptops/device and a USB to help create their photographic artworks. WEAR

ACTIVITY 5:

CREATE YOUR OWN SCREEN PRINT

VENUE: School – Room 39 THE DAY

Students will be developing designs of their choice to be screen printed on a bag

Over the course of the day students will refine their skills to print a bag that they will take home at the end of the day.

Students can also bring other items for extra prints, such as t-shirts or fabric.

You will be provided with pizza for lunch.

REQUIREMENTS Full school uniform. COST $15 per person – includes the workshop materials and tuition along with lunch (pizza). MAXIMUM NUMBER OF STUDENTS 22 per class (first in, first served)

ACTIVITY 6:

VENUE: Museum of Contemporary Art, Circular Quay THE DAY

Students will have the opportunity to experience the Sydney art world by visiting the Museum of Contemporary Art Sydney. At the MCA, students will visit a number of exhibitions presented across Levels 1 to Level 3 galleries. Students will be engaged with the many ways that contemporary art is presented and experience installation works by Emily Floyd and see the MCA collection. Students will travel by train to Circular Quay from Burwood Station (personal OPAL card required) and visit the Gallery through a teacher guided walk through the Exhibition space. REQUIREMENTS

Full school uniform. COST

Nil. BRING

ACTIVITY 7:

Reimagining the city

Photography: Documenting the shapes, designs of the cityscape

into a montage design ready to print

Want to further develop or start your Photoshop and camera skills through using

fun montaged imagery? VENUE: China Town and Darling Harbour, then Media room at school. As a group, we will be exploring the city environment, looking for suitable elements of the cityscape to scrutinize from behind the lens of our camera. Using close-ups of detail and long shots we will gather a range of images which we then manipulate, with teacher guidance, using Photoshop (in the Media Room) to create fun and surrealistic images. LUNCH: Bring own money and feast on the yummy food at Spice Alley in Central Park’s

dining precinct at

Chippendale, near

Central.

COST: Nil except for train fare to and from Central in the city and money for food and drinks.

TRANSPORT: Train. Please bring your personal Opal card on the day and make sure it is in credit as there will be no time at the station to put money on your card.

BRING: Own DSLR if you have one, otherwise 1
