Section C: Your Resources

TOP TIP!

To help you score high marks in questions 2-4, we strongly recommend carrying out a Resource

Assessment. You can find a Resource Assessment Template in Weekly Guide 2 and in the ‘Resources’

section of your school profile!

2. What resources at your school could you use to start a business and how? E.g. ‘We have internet at school and 3 computers so we could start an internet café.’ (2) SMA Negeri 2 Depok has a number of laboratories such as biology, chemistry, physics and tissue culture laboratory that can be used as a place to create our products. We want to produce tempeh made from various beans. Tempeh is usually made from soybeans, but we want to try making tempeh from another beans: red beans, mung beans, peanuts, and tholo beans (Javanese bean). Tempeh is a timeless national food in Indonesia. It is made from a fermented soybeans and usually served by frying or adding various spices (garlic, soya sauce, ‘sambal’, or fried with pulverize rice like ‘fried chicken’). Our school have a sufficient water resources in a form of artesian aquifier that support the process of creating tempeh. Besides, SMA Negeri 2 Depok also have a library with a Wi-Fi hotspot and LAN connection—which can be used to seek information, to market our products online, also to print brochures and pamphlets. We could also sell our processed foods made from tempeh such as tempeh nugget, crispy tempeh, and many more in our cafeteria.

3. How could you use your school’s location as a business opportunity? E.g. ‘Our school is near a

tourist attraction, so we could sell handicrafts to local tourists.’ (2)

a. Our school is near to 3 major food markets in the city. We can buy whatever we needs such as

ferment, plastics, and leaf wrap from the Traditional Market that is only about 200 meters away

from our school. And the nearest market is only 100 meters away from our school (a small

traditional market). We could also place our product in one of the big markets.

b. The school is located in the middle of residential area, making it easier to promote our products

to the residents. We can also invite residents (especially the unemployed ones) to participate in

our business (especially in production stage).

c. There are many printing shops in the area near our school. It helps our “Pro-Bean” business in

term of promoting our products to public. Especially for printing pamphlets, brochures, etc

4 New Business Idea Template 2015

d. There are 2 areas that become Sunday market in the weekend. Many goods are sold every

weekend in that place. We can sell our products every weekend to the people who are jogging

there. One of the Sunday market is just a few blocks away from school, and the other one is

about 500 meters away from our school.

4. How could you use your existing skills to start a business? E.g. ‘Six students have cooking skills, so

they could help other students to start a café.’ (2)

a. Our teacher advisor, Mrs. Rini Handayani is experienced in producing tempeh and we can learn a

lot from her. Most of the girls in our team has a talent in cooking, so we basically enjoy the

process of making tempeh.

b. At school, we majored in social class. Economics, accounting, and public speaking are our core

subject. All of us love talking and marketing to people.

c. Many of our members are skilled in computer and editing with photoshop. All of the members

have gadget and making it easier in promoting our products to the people out there.

Section D: Brainstorming

5. What business ideas did you think of when brainstorming? Please tell us your 5 best ideas E.g. eggs, growing vegetables, bags, handicrafts (2)

1. Producing a tempeh made from various beans and processing foods made from the tempeh.

2. Eco-Mushroom (eco-friendly foods made from processed mushroom).

3. An eco-friendly phone case with batik as the pattern.

4. A multifunctional Tote Bag to reduce the utilization of plastic bags.

5. Book covers made from used clothes.

Section E: Your Business Idea

TOP TIP! To help you choose the best business idea and to score high marks in this section, we strongly recommend

carrying out a Feasibility Study. You can find a Feasibility Study Template in Weekly Guide 3 and in the ‘Resources’ section of your school profile!

6. Which of your ideas did you choose as your Final Business Idea and why? (6). Please give 3 reasons why you chose this idea. Remember to use the results of your Feasibility Study in your answer.

The business we would like to set up is: An unique tempeh that is made from various beans instead of usual tempeh made from soybeans and other product from tempeh.

Reason 1: Because tempeh is an original and traditional food from Indonesia and is widely accepted by Indonesian people. Indonesian people likes tempeh, as well as the fact that it contains many nutritious substances. Pro-Bean produces delicious tempeh that not only contains high

5 New Business Idea Template 2015

protein from beans, but also does not contain any unhealthy materials such as monosodium glutamat. Tempeh contains nutritious substance such as protein, carbohydrate, fat acid, complex vitamin B (B1, B12, B2, B6), Vitamin A, D, E, K, minerals (calcium, iron, manganese, zinc, phosphorus, inositol, magnesium, etc). Nowadays in Indonesia, many childrens like to consume delicious unhealthy. We made healthy snack such as nugget, chips, or steak based on tempe. Reason 2: This business idea is unique and a breakthrough in food industry. Tempeh rarely found in another country, thus, we want to make tempeh more popular worldwide. Reason 3: Our teacher advisor, Mrs. Rini Handayani has experienced the process of producing the original tempeh. In the other hand, we have a connection to a tempeh producer who is also a student’s parent.

7. How does your Final Business idea meet the People, Profit, Planet criteria? (6). Pro-Bean meets the people criteria because it helps educate students by contributing all of school

students in this business. Thus, students can participate in business since such a young age. The

business can also help neighborhood to increase their income and lead many other small businesses

in term of getting raw materials and producing the tempeh. In a long term, we would establish our

own company and invite more residents to be a partner in our business. They will produce tempeh

and its derivates product made from various beans based on our standard.

Pro-Bean meets the profit criteria because our start up capital just a quarter from our capital final

product. Its possible because our product is unique. If we combine with good marketing its will be a

featured product. The cost of Pro-Bean products can compete with another tempeh products due to

the quality and nutrition inside the bean that is higher than usual tempeh.

Pro-Bean meets the planet criteria because there is no chemical substance that can damage people’s

health. Besides, the residual wastes after processing the tempeh will not cause any environmental

damages and It is even can made fertilizer for plant

Section F: Start-up capital

6 New Business Idea Template 2015

1. a) Does your business need start up capital (money)? Please circle one: Yes /No b) If yes, how are you planning to raise the start-up capital? (10) Please tell us in as much detail as possible how you are going to raise the money needed to start up your school business.

We can get the start-up capital by doing these things: 1. Garage Sale: We will sell some used goods in the Sunday market near our school. We will get the used goods from each members, another students, and school alumnus. 2. Selling snacks in the school: Our school’s students love buying snacks. So we can earn start-up capital from selling snacks in school’s area. 3. Selling used bottles: Used bottles make the environment looks nasty. So, we will sell them away and earn money from that.

OR c) If no, why do you not require start up capital? (10)
