Functionality Enhancements Additive Deferred Update

The new Defer Additive (@DFA) statement is an extension to the existing Defer Updates (@DFU) statement. The @DFA statement is used to add a report to an existing deferred-update list or to create a new list if @DFU has not been used.

Binary Find Statement

The Binary Find (@BFN) statement is enhanced to continue execution even if a no-find condition is encountered. This eliminates the need to supply an error label to the @BFN command when checking only for a no-find condition.

Break Statement

The Break (@BRK) statement in Open BIS is enhanced to allow a minimum number of lines to be placed into the output area.

Block Overlay

Three new script statements have been added to allow block of lines to be written to reports.

@BBO – Use the Block Blank Overlay (BBO) statement to overlay a block of lines in a report. The overlaying data may come from the drawer's report zero, text supplied, or spaces.

@BCO – Use the Block Copy Overlay (BCO) statement to overlay a block of lines in a report with lines from other reports. Optionally the lines in the input report can then be overlaid with blanking data that may come from the drawer’s report zero or text supplied.

@BPO – Use the Block Put Overlay (BPO) statement to overlay a block of lines in a report with lines from temporary yank buffer.

CALL Statement

This feature provides reserved words for the current level of the @CALL statement.

Create Result Copy

The Create Result Copy (RSLT / @RSL) function is enhanced with new subfields that can specify the receiving drawer of the output result

Date Support for Match

The Match function (MA or @MCH) is enhanced to allow any supported date formats on match and move fields.

DIAG Statement

New options are added to the Generating Diagnostics Reports (@DIAG) statement.

I option to include an index of the Session Global Report Table.

J option to include Jump History information.

N option to output a narrow (80-column) display.

Enterprise Output Manager Tags

The Print (@PRT) function now allows you to print a preamble report prior to printing the normally-requested primary report or reports. Reports printed using @PRT function can now include Enterprise Output Manager (DEPCON) control images, specified by the $EOM$ control statement and in predefined forms.

Filenames on Print

The Print (@PRT) function now allows you to specify filenames for the print files.

Format Columns Statement

The new Format Columns (FC/@FC) command allows you to justify data in a column. The FC/@FC command provides options to column justify alphanumeric data and case justification.

If Conditional Statement

The If Conditional (@IF) statement is enhanced with a new “S” option. This option enables you to perform a string comparison of the operands.

End-of-Month

The Calculate (@CAL), Date (@DAT) and Date Calculator (@DC) statements are enhanced to support a new option to calculate the date of the last day of a month.

List Command

The List (@LST)command supports upto 999,999 records instead of 32,767.

Namelist Statements

The new Namelist (@NAMLST) statement allows you to specify reports and drawers or ranges of reports and drawers that can be read as a unit; for example, a Search. Namelists may be defined in the Data Directory or may be created dynamically for adhoc use.

The new Namelist (@NAMDMP) statement allows you to dump the namelist information in a readable format.

New Date Format - DATE21

A new DATE21 date format (DD-MMM-YY) is supported.

Pass Renames through @call

This feature provides the ability to pass one or more rename reports to a CALL subroutine and the ability to receive one or more rename reports from the subroutine.

Pre-fill Title Field on XR/REP Function Forms (TITLE$)

The title field of the XR and REP function request forms will be pre-filled with the title information from the currently displayed report or result. The title of the current -0 report, when present. The TITLE$ reserved word is for @SC only and not for script.

Release Rename Statement

The new Release Rename (@RELRNM) BIS script command disassociates reports from their rename values.

Session Global Results

The Session Global Results feature allows scripts to seclude their results and assign names before termination. The results can then be recalled on explicit request from other scripts that would execute subsequently on the same unit. These results are also available to a Java client that can reference them by their assigned names.

The Session Global results are secluded from normal reports by the new @SGPUT statement and recalled by the new @SGGET statement. The @DIAG statement is also enhanced to produce an index (I option) of the Session Global Results.

Update Result Change

This feature enables you to obtain update results from result reports. However, there can be only one update result at a time. It is now possible to use Calculate Update (CALU, @CAU), Match Update (MAU, @MAU) or Search Update (SU, @SRU) against a result.

WAT Statement

The existing @WAT statement is modified to wait in milliseconds rather than in seconds. The @WAT in the earlier versions used to take input as milliseconds, but inside the code it was converting the milliseconds to the nearest seconds to wait.

Users of BIS 11.1 and BIS 12.1 can make use of all the feature enhancements of the new release by directly upgrading to 12.2. The following features are new to BIS 12.2:

Core-Based licensing gives customers a more precise measure of computing power and a more consistent licensing metric, whether solutions are deployed on physical servers or in virtual environments. Core-Based licensing is also appropriate when customers are unable to count users/devices.

Named user license: Named users are individuals or devices authorized to use the BIS resources regardless of whether the individual is actively accessing BIS resources at any given time. A device is counted as a named user if the device accesses BIS resources. All users are defined as named users. For example if 10 people are accessing the BIS engine at different times or same time, each person is required to have a license.

Note: For both the named user license and the processor license, there is a physical limit of 2000 (64-bit) and 1024 (32-bit) current user sessions that can be attached to the BIS engine at any one time.

License Styles Depending on your current licensing situation, different license styles are available:

New licenses: New licenses are for users who need initial licenses for BIS or for current users who require additional licenses.

Subscription licenses: Subscriptions provide ‘no additional charge’ updates to future releases for an annual subscription fee. Software maintenance is a pre-requisite and subscriptions require a software maintenance contract.

Software Upgrade: Software upgrade is for BIS 11.1 Windows users who have a license and maintenance agreement who want to upgrade to BIS 12.2 but do not have a software subscription.

Software Update: Software update is for users who have both subscription and a valid maintenance agreement.

Multiple Servers/Partitions

If multiple BIS engines are executing on multiple servers or partitions within a server, then each BIS engine must be licensed either by a named user or a processor license.

Backup BIS Servers

BIS may be installed at no additional cost on a server designated as a backup server for business continuance or disaster recovery. Reasonable testing on a regular basis is permitted to ensure that failover executes properly. If the BIS installed on the backup server is used for anything other than disaster recovery such as development, testing, or training, then an appropriate BIS license is required.

Notes:

In the table above, a user represents a connected Business Information Server Graphical Interface, an inbound connection from another Business Information Server, or an active background run session.

The suggested memory configuration may not be adequate for some installations because memory requirements vary dramatically depending on the software environment you are running on a Microsoft Windows platform.

The amount of mass storage required depends more on the size of the database than on the number of users. The amount of shared memory required depends on the size and number of database files and other site configuration values.

The number of cores (CPUs) is dependent on the editions of the OS. For example

Windows 2008 R2 Standard Edition supports 4 cores (which is the minimum), while Enterprise Edition supports 8 cores (minimum)

For Client OS (Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 8.1), the minimum number of cores required is 2 for Enterprise and Professional and 1 core for Home Editions (BIS is not supported at Home).

Section 5 Restrictions and Known Limitations

This section describes restrictions and limitations applying to Business Information Server for Microsoft Windows level 12.2. It presents information under the following categories:

Operational restrictions and limitations

ODBC server restrictions and limitations

Future Considerations

Discontinued features

Operational Restrictions and Limitations Compatibility of Existing COM Components on EM64T

It is not possible to load 32-bit in-process components in 64-bit BIS. Windows restricts the loading of 32-bit dlls into 64-bit processes. However, existing 32-bit out-of-process components can be loaded in 64-bit BIS.

Oracle Support

Oracle 8i and 9i are no longer supported by BIS.

WebSphere MQ

WebSphere MQ must be installed before you can run the Message Queuing feature.

Note: Windows 8 does not support WebSphere MQ Version 7.5.

Date/Time

If both the exact date and exact time are required in a BIS script, they both must be obtained in a single @LDV or in a single @DC run command. Multiple fields of a date/time reserved word must be loaded with a single @LDV command.

Page 36: Business Information Server for · UNISYS Business Information Server for Microsoft Windows Software Release Announcement 12.2 February 2015 7846 0268–016

Software Release Announcement

30 7846 0268–016

Amount of Server Shared Memory

The maximum size of BIS server shared memory available depends on the operating system build and patches installed, as well as on the features of BIS that are in use at your site. On 32-bit Windows operating systems, more than 1500 MB is generally available for use by BIS. However, if you are using the TPMAPPER feature, the amount of BIS server shared memory is limited to 1200 MB.

Occasionally, installing Windows security patches has adversely affected the maximum amount of shared memory available. If BIS sites do not start after applying Windows patches, the MapAdmin program should be used to reduce the BIS server shared memory value. In general, a value less than 1000 MB will work regardless of the patches installed. Reducing the BIS server shared memory value might require the BIS sites to be reconfigured to use less shared memory. Generally, the easiest value to reduce is the "Number of Blocks for Caching Results" on the site’s Capacity property page.

Scripts, Functions, and Statements

Be aware of the following restrictions or limitations that apply to scripts, functions, and statements:

In MAPPER Query Language (MQL), the maximum number of operands or operators in an arithmetic expression or a WHERE clause cannot exceed 384.

Do not use the Command Handler (CHD) statement if you are using a Call subroutine (CALL), a Run Start (RUN), or a Run subroutine (RSR) statement. If you do use the CHD statement, register it in the main script and do not access it in any lower-level routines. Using the CHD statement within subroutines or CALL routines leads to unpredictable results.

In BIS 12.1, @Diag only dumps the local variables from current stack level and not the entire stack of local variables. This @Diag functionality is enhanced in the 12.2 release.

Storage and Processing Capacity

The maximum number of cabinets is increased to 4,000. However, cabinets 3,900 through 4,000 are reserved for future internal Business Information Server development and enhancements.

Business Information Server allows up to 2000 simultaneously active reports for each site. This includes active reports for any user or software process (such as MAPQUE, DISPATCHER, APPLOAD, and PURGE) attached to that site. An active report is any report that is on display, being executed, or in use by a manual function or a statement, such as Search or SRH.

Software Release Announcement

7846 0268–016 31

ODBC Server Restrictions and Limitations Be aware of the following considerations and limitations of the Open Database Connectivity (ODBC) server feature:

Only one ODBC server is supported. If the Business Information Server for Microsoft Windows and Internet Commerce Enabler both are installed on the same system, the ODBC server is installed and associated with the first installation.

If another copy of Business Information Server is installed as a separate Business Information Server installation, the ODBC server feature works with the first Business Information Server installation only. If you wish to install a newer version of Business Information Server and use ODBC with that version, you must perform an upgrade process on the first Business Information Server or remove it and install the later version of Business Information Server.

With Microsoft Access, you can use design view to design select queries. However, you need to use SQL-specific pass-through to design, insert, delete, and update queries.

The Table Description and Column Comments fields in the OTBL script are not passed back to the Microsoft Access ODBC client application. Therefore, you cannot observe these entries on the Table Properties and Field Description tabs in Microsoft Access.

You must restart Microsoft Query before you can view table data sets defined with the OTBL script.

ODBC Driver Restrictions and Limitations

The following are the restrictions and limitations for ODBC drivers:

Only MySQL ODBC driver versions 3.51 and 5.1 are supported.

Unisys Trans-IT ODBC driver is not applicable through ADO.NET on 64 bit machines.

MS SQL Support MS SQL Server no longer allows native T-SQL access through “NTWDBLIB.DLL”. As a result, the BIS native interface to MS SQL Server 2012 databases is not supported. Users can configure ODBC, OLE DB, or ADO.NET interfaces as per the MRI documentation.

Future Considerations In GI-BIS, the Windows template type used to create connection scripts will be discontinued in a future level. All users are encouraged to migrate to connection scripts based on the Alternative Credentials or Location-Only templates. Connection scripts based on these templates provide security for user credentials and optionally provide data transmission security.
