SAP BusinessObjects Dashboards 4.0Multi-lingual dashboards

Publish a dashboard to the BI platform to allow Translation expert(s) to create localized text

for the dashboard

The Translation expert(s) use the Translation Manager to localize:

– Component Text Properties: Titles, subtitles, series names, category names

– Ranges in Excel marked as translatable by the dashboard designer

– Note: Text in Excel formulas is not translatable

They publish the text translations to the BI platform

The platform combines these translations with

the dashboard to create a localized dashboard

At runtime the platform displays the

localized dashboard that matches the

user Preferred Viewing Locale (PVL)

SAP BusinessObjects Dashboards and SAP NetWeaver BW

BW Query Element Xcelsius Designer Element (Direct Connection to SAP BW)

Characteristic

Each characteristic in the actual dataset is being retrieved based on the settings in the BW query. Settings in regards to

elements like key, short text, medium text, and long text are being leveraged from the BW query. In addition each

characteristic is also available with a list of members which can be used for filtering or provide a list of values for

variables.

Hierarchies Each level of the hierarchy will be presented but all levels are put combined into a single column in the data set. The

depth of the hierarchy depends on the configured number of levels in the BW query designer.

KeyfiguresEach keyfigure can be shown as plain numeric value or as formatted value based on the user preferences. This choice

can be made for each SAP NetWeaver BW connection configured in the Data Manager.

Calculated / Restricted KeyfigureEach calculated / restricted keyfigure is treated like a keyfigure. The user does not have access to the underlying

definition in the SAP BusinessObjects Dashboards designer.

Filter

Filters will be applied to the underlying query and the user has access to the configured filter values and can use those

values for display purposes. In addition the user can set additional filter values for characteristics from the underlying BW

query during the runtime of the SAP BusinessObjects Dashboards object.

SAP BusinessObjects Dashboards and SAP NetWeaver BW

BW Query Element Xcelsius Designer Element (Direct Connection to SAP BW)

Navigational Attributes Navigational Attributes are being treated identical to a characteristic.

Display Attribute Display attributes can be used for a list of values and can become part of the overall dataset. In the actual dataset a

display attribute can only be shown in combination with the actual characteristic.

Variables Variables from the BW query are transferred to SAP BusinessObjects Dashboards as part of the connection and will be

shown as variables in the Input Values area of the SAP NetWeaver BI connection settings.

SAP BusinessObjects 4.0 – SAP IntegrationSAP Solution Manager – System Landscape Directory

Problem:

Several employees have complained that the system has not worked correctly for several days.

The company support organization is informed about the problems and is starting root cause analysis

using SAP Solution Manager.

To begin the analysis of the problem, the end-to-end change analysis application will be used to check

if configuration changes might be the root cause.

Solution:

Information stored as part of the System Landscape Directory allow for End to End Change Analysis

Examples of available information:

SAP BusinessObjects 4.0 – SAP IntegrationSAP Solution Manager – Exception Analysis

Problem:

An employee reports errors using the Web Intelligence application.

To analyze the problem, the End-to-End Exception Analysis application will be used to isolate the

component that causes the problem and to analyze error messages written by the component.

Solution:

End to End Exception Analysis integrated with SAP Solution Manager allow for alerting and analysis of

thresholds for SAP BusinessObjects components

Examples:

SAP BusinessObjects web tier

– Java Application Errors (from Web Application Server Log)

– Event Log Errors (Windows only)

SAP BusinessObjects 4.0 – SAP IntegrationSAP Solution Manager – Workload Analysis

Problem:

Several employees of a company have complained about slow system response during the generation of Web

Intelligence reports over the last few days.

To begin the analysis of the problem, the end-to-end workload analysis application will be used to analyze which

component is responsible for the long running requests and whether resource bottlenecks occur.

Solution:

Central monitoring and End to End Workload analysis using SAP Solution Manager is providing alerting and

monitoring functionality for the SAP BusinessObjects environment and the SAP environment in a single

environment

Examples:

SAP BusinessObjects Services

– Average Response Time per Request

– Number of Requests

SAP BusinessObjects 4.0 – SAP IntegrationSAP Solution Manager – Tracing

Problem:

An employee complained about high system response time while refreshing an Interactive Intelligence report.

End-to-end trace analysis will be used to determine whether the high response time is mainly caused by client or

server processing or network and which request and component accounts for the highest part of the response

time.

Solution:

Using the central trace integration with SAP Solution Manager provides access to tracing and log files

Examples:
