Thank you for your interest in The Prosper Method Business Planning Guide. To help you get the very most from this short but powerful document, I have a brief word of advice… I know this may seem like a paradox but it is a powerful truth and that is to focus on less to accomplish more. Let me say that in a different way…The only way to start making more money and having more time is to focus on doing less. That’s right, instead of working harder and harder and not getting anywhere, I want you to eliminate the mental clutter and focus on one thing at a time.

It’s easy, first turn off the noise..(cell phone, email, Facebook, social media and yes even the boob tube) next put yourself on a 90 day information diet..stop consuming podcasts, webinars online courses and websites…I know that’s hard but you can do it and then simply relax so you can reconnect and reinvent your business and your life. Growing a successful business from scratch starts with planning out your big idea. Think of your business plan like a roadmap. Map out your business from your starting point to launch starting with your vision… or as author and business expert, James Collins likes to say, your Big Hairy Audacious Goal (BHAG). A Brief Word on Goal Setting—Make Them SMART!

Effective business planning results in clarity. Clarity is essential if you want your business to support your personal lifestyle goals. Go through each template and write down your answers. Then, do one more re-write until you are very clear about what you want to achieve. Just as you would use a road map to plot your course to a desired destination, a simple business plan is used to plot the course for your business. Setting your end destination in your business is the same thing as setting a goal. In business planning, setting goals helps you to make progress and stay on the right path. Use the S.M.A.R.T. method for setting your goals:

Specific: You must have a clearly defined end result. Saying, “I want my business to make a lot of money” is too vague and general. But, “I want to have $10,000 per month of after-tax residual income twelve months from today” is clear and points to a specific destination. Measurable: To be effective, you must have some way to measure your progress. The example above measures progress in residual dollars per month. It makes it easy to break the goal up into smaller milestones or stretch it out to two, three or five years in the future. Attainable: Goals should stretch you out of your comfort zone but be in the realm of possibility. In other words, make your goal challenging but not overly ambitious so as to become impossible. Realistic: If you’re just starting out in business and you’re deeply in debt, it’s probably not realistic to set a goal to be a millionaire and completely debt free in three months. Make sense? Timely: A goal without a deadline is pure fantasy. You may want to have $10,000 per month in residual income so you can quit your job but you need a specific date to set the wheels in motion for your goal to be realized.
