STARS volunteers work closely with law enforcement in a variety of non-hazardous activities helping to make our communities a safer place to live, work and play.

What is S.T.A.R.S.?

The Butte County Sheriff’s Of-fice will provide the community with the use of wellness checks for both seniors and disabled citizens. We will create innova-tive solutions to specific crime, safety, and health issues. During home checks, we can provide brochures on a number of community resources and topics, such as crime preven-tion tips; public health services, fraud and identity theft, elder abuse issues, safety practices, fire hazards, information on the proper way to dispose of pre-scription drugs, and more!

To best serve our community, law enforcement agencies need to pro-vide services that fit the needs of our senior citizens and the disabled. It is with this, in mind, that we have formed this Unit to look after the safety issues that concern seniors most. The STARS Unit feels that this pro-gram will enhance and assist the Sheriff’s Office allowing them to fo-cus on, and prioritize, more urgent matters. Increasing awareness of community safety benefits us all. NOTE: We are unable to perform per-sonal tasks such as running er-rands, or providing transportation. STARS Unit of the Butte County Sheriff’s Office is a 501c3 non-profit agency. We are the senior unit of volunteers who patrol and become the eyes and ears of law enforce-ment. We are here to help: 1. To educate seniors in crime

trends and crime prevention 2. To provide referral assistance for

seniors for a variety of needs. 3. To provide awareness of suspi-

cious activities involving seniors and disabled.

Program works in partnership and cooperation with other agencies, including: • 9-1-1 • Police and Sheriff’s Office • Fire Departments • Ambulance Services • Social Service Agencies • Senior Centers
