BLACK CANYON
The canyon has been a mightly barrier to humans.
Only its rims, never the gorge ,show evidence of humans.
Occupation-not ever by ute Indians living area since written history began.
Before the creation of 3dams upstream of Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park ,the Gunnison River was as
much a 5 times more powerful than it is today!
The temp at the bottom of the Black Canyon is approximately 8 degrees warmer than at the rim.
