9.3 Happy Meal Toy Project By Kaitlyn Hemberger and Brodie Gullic DESIGN BRIEF CONSTRAINTS
The toy must reflect the theme of the film. The toy must be made up of at least 5 parts. The toy must be able to do something related to the film. The toy must have an additional feature that functions as an accessory. The toy may not exceed 3 x 3 x 5. The toy must comply with U.S. Consumer Safety Commissions child safety regulations. Client: McDonalds Restaurant Chain Target Consumer: Children three to seven years old Problem Statement: McDonalds has recently acquired the film rights to all Disney Entertain films. The first film project that they are going to use in the Happy Meal is based on the film Rolie Polie Olie The Great Defender of Fun. Design Statement: Design a Happy Meal Product Line based on the Disney Film Rolie Polie Olie The Great Defender of Fun. The toy should reflect the theme of the film. TEAM NORMS RULES 1. Teammates must remain professional throughout the project. 2. Teammates must try their hardest to remain on task. 3. Teammates will contact each other through text message. 4. Communication will be daily or whenever necessary. 5. Teammates will send and retrieve necessary documents through G-Mail and Google Drive. 6. Teammates will contact each other when making revisions or decisions. 7. Teammates will have a solid design plan. 8. Teammates will not stray from the plan. 9. Teammates will contact a third party when indecisive on a topic. Toys for young children forbid the following: Sharp edges sharp enough to the extent of being harmful. Cords or strings that are long enough to strangle a child or loose enough to be pulled off. Sharp points pointy enough to the extent of being harmful. Objects that propel themselves fast or harshly enough to harm a child. Noises loud enough to be considered abrasive to the ears. The toy itself being made of unsafe materials. SOLUTION A toy made of ABS plastic, which the brand LEGO makes its bricks out of. It will have Olie, his friend Billy, his little sister, and their ship. The accessory will be the pet dog Spot. For the toys special feature, the wings on the ship will slide out. COST TOY WEIGHT: .058 pounds TOY MATERIAL: ABS plastic COST OF COLORED ABS PLASTIC GRANULES (ACCORDING TO POLYONE CORPORATION): $1.19 Therefore, it would cost approximately $0.07 to produce one toy.
