BEGINNINGS German Workers’ Party or the Nazi Party was founded in 1919.
THE BEER HALL PUTSCH Hitler attempted an armed overthrow of
local authorities in Munich, Germany. Hitler was jailed for treason. He wrote Mein Kampf in jail.
EXPANDING From 27,000 members in 1925 to
108,000 members in 1929. Most of these members belonged to the
SA the propaganda armed known for street brawling.
RISE IN POWER German President Paul von Hindenburg
appointed Hitler as the Chancellor in 1933.
The Nazis under Hitler started seizing power and eliminating political rivals.
TYING UP LOOSE STRINGS Hitler worried that the SA was gaining
power. In June 1934 Hitler, using his personal
body guards the SS, and the Gestapo staged a coup against the SA leaders.
With the SA out of the way, Hitler turned his attention to the Jews.
