CHARITY PROJECTS

QUILTS

Join Jackie and spend a few hours doing something you enjoy while giving back to the community at the same time. Our Charity Quilting Day will be spent making quilts to donate to social services or the local shelter. When they pick up children from an abusive or unsafe environment, giving him or her a handmade quilt might just be what the doc-tor ordered! But, we can’t forget the wives or significant others who get caught up in this tragic situation also. Our quilts will be lap so it can be wrapped around them to make them feel safe.

We will provide materials, however, fabric donations will be greatly appreciated.

PILLOWCASES

For several years will have been collecting handmade pillowcases for CONKERR CANCER. Each year 44,000 children are treated for cancer across North America. They spend day after frightening day stuck in a hospital room when they should be outside playing with friends. And each and every day, ConKerr Cancer volunteers work to bring them comfort and smiles through a simple act of love called a pillowcase. You can get instructions for the pillowcases at Bear’s Paw or log onto the Conkerr Cancer website to get the directions for the pillowcases, plus washing in-structions. Drop them off at the Store whenever you’re in the neighborhood, we will see that they get picked up and delivered to the hospitals.

If you’re interested in applique, this is for you! Michele Hill has designed Morris Meadows, her second fabric collection for IN THE BEGINNING FABRICS, inspired by the work of William Morris. Being a quilter herself, Michele ap-proaches her design process with finished quilts in mind. Along with the absolutely gorgeous floral and border prints that bring such richness to her quilts, Michele also makes sure that her collections include the tonals which play a vital role in her floral applique blocks. So, what do you think of Arts & Crafts?

Quilts and the quilt store in the novel, Solomon’s Puzzle, inspired many of the book’s images and ideas. The title and the chapter titles were chosen from tra-ditional quilt patterns to represent important ideas in the chapter. THIRD FRIDAYS WITH MARTY - This class is an on-going series of quilt projects. Some projects take only one month to complete, while others may take several months. Watch for the announcements of the upcoming topics. Take only the projects that are of interest to you. The overall goal of these classes is to improve your quilting skills and foster your inner creative self. Marty encourages discussion that explores visual impact of various quilting appli-cations and applauds individuality in color and design.

APPLE CORE TABLE RUNNER USING ACCUQUILT - Marty - Our January class will begin a series of quilts which focus on perfecting curved piecing. In this class we will learn to make a simple apple core Table Runner using the Accuquilt cutter to cut our shapes. You may use the cutter in class if you do not have one available at home. The finished size of this project is 55" x 23", and of each apple core shape is roughly 6.25" x 5". This project consists of 40 apple cores plus a curved binding.
