The Cougars lead the all-time series, 21-13-1, but have not played the Huskies since 2011. BYU is looking to add to its four wins over three Power 5 teams, having already defeated Northwestern (twice), Ohio State and Oregon. Senior Brock Hale and sophomore Jackson Cluff have each earned a Collegiate Baseball National Player of the Week award this season, Hale for his efforts the last week of March and Cluff for his performance two weeks ago, including a nine-RBI day at San Diego. Friday’s starter, sophomore Easton Walker, is second in the nation with a 0.82 ERA in 44 innings pitched. Walker went the first 34 innings of the year without an earned run before allowing two in each of his last two outings. Walker is also 17th in the country with a 0.84 WHIP. In addition, Reid McLaughlin has the top ERA of any freshman in the country, currently sitting at 1.54. The Scottsdale, Ariz., native is 5-0 with two saves this year in 15 relief appearances. Sophomore Justin Sterner, Saturday’s starter, is tied for 20th in the nation with six wins; only two underclassmen in the country have more. More than halfway through the season, a few situations have led to wins every time they’ve occured for BYU. The Cougars are 19-0 when out-hitting their opponent, 20-0 when leading after eight innings, 19-0 when leading after seven, 10-0 when scoring in the first inning, 11-0 when scoring 10 or more runs and 11-0 when holding opponents to two runs or less. BYU’s 24 wins through 33 games are tied with the 1980, ‘82, ‘84, ‘86, ‘88 and ‘97 seasons for fourth most in program history behind 1983 (27-6), 2016 (26-7) and 2005 (24-8-1). The 24 wins are already two more than last year’s season total. Senior Brock Hale’s career slugging percentage of .605 is currently ninth among active Division I players; he’s also 10th with a .460 on-base percentage and 16th with a .358 batting average. SERIES HISTORYBYU and Washington last met in 2011 in Seattle, with BYU claiming two of the three games played. The Cougars took game one, 3-2, behind 13 strikeouts and a run in the top of the ninth. BYU won game two, 9-6, with a five-run ninth that broke up a 4-4 tie. In game three, Washington came out winning 6-2.

The Cougars have won four of the last six and six of the last nine over Washington. The series began in 1967 with a 7-4 BYU victory in Riverside, Calif. BYU won the first seven games of the series through 1987 until Washington claimed its first victory in 1990.

MISSIONARY SERVICEEleven members of this year’s team have served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Missonaries devote themselves to proselytizing, humanitarian assistance and other community service.

In addition, freshman outfielder Noah Hughes will serve in the Portugal Lisbon Mission, freshman pitcher Jake Porter will serve in the Indiana Indianapolis Mission and freshman pitcher Cooper Foss will serve in the Massachusetts Boston Mission following the season.
