St. Columbkille Year of Mercy Pilgrimage through the Holy Door! Come join us as we walk through the Holy Door of Mercy at the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe by LaCrosse, WI. This pilgrimage has a special place in the Holy Year, because it represents the journey each of us makes in this life. Life itself is a Holy Pilgrimage! May we find strength to cross the threshold of the Holy Door to embrace God’s mercy and dedicate ourselves to being merciful with others as the Father has been with us (Misericordia Vultus14). The pilgrimage will take place on Sunday, Sept. 25. The chartered bus will leave St. Columbkille parking lot at 7:20 am and arrive back around 6:30 pm. Contact Alice at St. Columbkille at 583-9117 for all the details.

Dear Parishioners,

This weekend we celebrate Catechetical Sunday focused on the theme: “Prayer: The

Faith Prayed.” Today Jesus challenges us to manage God’s valued gifts well. More pre-

cious than gold is the heart-felt prayers of our eternal soul. As Catholics, we devote our-

selves to the practice of prayer, for our own spiritual good and for the good of those we

serve.

Part Four of the Catechism of the Catholic Church is an excellent overview of prayer.

For example, St. Thérése of Lisieux, for whom “...prayer is a surge of the heart; it is a

simple look turned toward heaven, it is a cry of recognition and of love, embracing both

trial and joy.” or St. Francis de Sales, who says that “every one of us needs half an hour of

prayer each day except when we’re busy — then we need an hour.”

Prayerfully reading the Catechism can open our minds and hearts to a deeper relation-

ship with God—Father, Son and Holy Spirit—present and at work in our lives. Daily pray-

er shines the light of the Gospel on everything we do, so that all our thoughts, words and

actions can be informed and measured by love of God and neighbor.

Jesus’ disciples observed Him interrupting His journeys in order to spend long hours

alone in prayer to our Heavenly Father. They asked Him to teach them how to pray.

May we be moved this year to do the same as true disciples. May we all draw closer to

Jesus and to one another through a deeper and more faithful commitment to prayer from

the very depths of our heart.

Blessings upon you,

Fr. Gabriel

Vocations Corner—September 18, 2016 The Vocations Committee invites you to pray for Vocations, especially those to Priest-

hood or Religious Life!

What Are You Looking For?

When we read scripture we hear God’s voice because it is the very Word of God. In

light of this, we would like to propose the following passage for your consideration:

“The next day John was there again with two of his disciples, and as he watched Jesus

walk by, he said, “Behold, the Lamb of God.” The two disciples heard what he said and

followed Jesus. Jesus turned and saw them following him and said to them, “What are

you looking for?“ They said to him, “Rabbi” (which translated means Teacher), “Where

are you staying?” He said to them, “Come, and you will see.” So they went and saw

where he was staying, and they stayed with him that day.” — John 1:35-39

Allow us to point out a few things:

1. Jesus saw them following—this should give us confidence that Jesus notices us and

that he is aware of us and our needs. He simply waits for us to desire to truly follow

Him and when this happens He will speak to our hearts.

2. He asks them directly “what are you looking for?” How often do we take the time to

look into our own hearts and seek to discover what we truly long for? Most of us would

agree that we look to be loved, cherished, and accepted. Jesus wants us to think about

what we are looking for, so that we will see that He is the answer to our longings.

3. They answer by asking to remain with Him. Remain close to the Lord to fulfill your

call and obtain what your heart desires.
