Frameless Balustrade Channel

Technical Considerations

• It is recommended that a level fi rm surface to be provided for fi xing of the channel

• Do not fi x channel to compressibledeck surfaces

• It is recommended that a suitably qualifi ed engineer is consulted to check on all installations.

• Fixing to structure should be a minimum of M10 x 100 stainless steel fi xing. Please consult an engineer to determine what fi xings are required based on type of structure the channel will be attached to.

• Available in 5.85 & 2.925 metre lengths• Mill fi nish or silver pearl• Can be cut to size and powdercoated

to colour of your choice

ImportantDue to the lime content of all cementatious non shrink grout, please note the following:

1. The FBC10 balustrade channel should not be used in either anodized or mill fi nish.

2. Powder coating of channel must include both the inside and outside of the product.

3. Grout must be carefully mixed in accordance with the manufacturers instructions as given on the bag. Wrongly mixed grout will increase the likelihood of corrosion of the channel.

including the channel (glass extends 1105mm fromthe top of the channel).

Note 1:

Panels must be greater than 1000mm wide.

The system cannot be used in applications where the area can be defi ned as one where people can congregate.

BalustradesResidential (excluding balconies)

• 10mm Toughened can be used to a maximum height of 620mm in applications, where the wind load does not exceed 1.8 KPa.

• 12mm Toughened can be used to a maximum height of 840mm in applications where the wind load does not exceed 1.37 KPa.

• In applications requiring 1000mm high balustrade, 15mm Toughened is to be used, but only to a maximum wind load of 1.12 KPa wind load.

• In applications requiring 1000mm high balustrade, 15mm Toughened is to be used, but only to a maximum wind load of 1.37 KPa wind load.

Note 1:

The system is not recommended for use in any balustrade installations where fall on the other side is greater than 1 metre.

The above results have been generated by ARUP Facade Engineering. Physical testing has also been conducted by Compusoft Engineering in New Zealand. The results of both these are being collated in conjunction with the proposed changes listed in the latest draft of revisions for AS1288.

FBC20 (Driglaze)

Driglaze Balustrade Channel

Driglaze is the revolutionary new method for supporting 10, 12 and 15mm toughened glass for balustrades.

Driglaze eliminates the need for any grouting and therefore installation of balustrading is faster and cleaner than ever before. Driglaze offers the benefi t of adjustment up to 15mm vertically and angle adjustment of +/- 3°. Installation is also made easy by use of the coverplate simply being clipped on from the interior side. This will eliminate the requirement for scaffolding on certain sites and provide increased ease of installation. Channel is predrilled at 400mm centres for ease of installation.

This product not only boasts engineering function but also has clean lines to suit any style. Available in Silver Pearl marine grade powdercoated or mill fi nish, the product will suit all environments.

Assembly Instructions1 Cut the channel to size and place in position as

required. Drill concrete slab at specifi ed centres and install threaded studs using Chemset in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.

2 M12 threaded stud to be drilled minimum 90mm into concrete when using Chemset (follow manufacturer’s instructions). This is a recommendation only. Please consult an engineer to determine most suitable fi xing method.

3 Insert Pivot Nuts into the channel prior to securing the channel to the slab.

4 Secure the channel to the concrete slab using M12 nuts and washers to a maximum height of 24mm above the substrate level. This is a recommendation only. Please consult an engineer to determine most suitable fi xing method.

5 Insert the weatherstrip into the base channel.6 Place setting blocks in the base channel to support

the glass while the clamps are placed on the glass. 7 Fix the clamping assembly and adjusting screws

around the glass and tighten to support the glass before fi nal adjustments are made.

8 Ensure that the two sections of the clamping assembly are assembled as per the diagram; the external section will hold the cover plate in place.

9 Place the glass with the clamping assemblies attached in place into the base section and line up the “pivot nuts” to go through the fi xing kits. Tighten the nuts loosely onto the pivot nuts to hold the glass in place.

10 Adjust the vertical height of the glass panels by moving the glass up and down as required with packers under the glass.

11 Tighten the “clamp nut” at both ends of the glass panel, just enough to hold glass in place.

12 Tighten the remaining clamps, checking for correct vertical and horizontal alignment and tighten all nuts.

13 Adjust the “adjusting screws” evenly around the glass panel and between ends of the glass panel, just enough to hold glass in place.

14 Fit the coverplate and end caps as required, placing the weatherstrip on the coverplate fi rst.
