Continuation of Learning Resource Thursday April 9th 2020 Dear Families, We thank the St Aloysius School community for the manner in which staff, students and families have worked together during these very challenging times. As you would be aware, our school has at all times carefully monitored and followed the advice of the experts including; Adj Clin Prof Brett Sutton the Victorian Chief Health Officer and advice from the Department of Education and Catholic Education Commission of Victoria. As families will be acutely aware, the situation involving the spread of COVID-19 changes rapidly each day. In order to prepare for a period of ‘Learning from Home’, staff have produced a resource that can be easily accessed by our families. This resource contains activities and learning links for students at all levels of learning. Staff have also shared a unique email address (below) which can be utilised by parents to clarify any questions relating to the resource. The suggested home learning timetable is included. We understand that each family will need to adapt this timetable to suit their individual home situations. On average, we expect children to complete a minimum of 2hrs 30min of home learning from Foundation to Year 2 and 3hrs 45min for Years 3-6. Staff have designed the Continuation of Learning resource with the following parameters in mind; Curriculum and Level Based activities are included for each year level. Independent- Students and families should be able to complete tasks independently with some school staff support. Accessible- With hard copy or digital formats available, we aim to increase accessibility for all. Students will also be provided with some basic resources for use at home. These may include an exercise book, pencils, copies of school prayer etc. If families do not have access to these resources or suitable ICT (computers or IPads) we ask that you contact the school office (ph. 53358177) to discuss ways in which we can support you. Those students who attend school during this period (according to the agreed guidelines) will complete the home learning activities under staff supervision. Again, we provide this resource to support a Continuation of Learning during times of school closure or self-isolation. We hope it helps to guide learning and is of assistance to families.

Continuation of Learning Resource

Thursday April 9th 2020 Dear Families, We thank the St Aloysius School community for the manner in which staff, students and families have worked together during these very challenging times. As you would be aware, our school has at all times carefully monitored and followed the advice of the experts including; Adj Clin Prof Brett Sutton the Victorian Chief Health Officer and advice from the Department of Education and Catholic Education Commission of Victoria. As families will be acutely aware, the situation involving the spread of COVID-19 changes rapidly each day. In order to prepare for a period of ‘Learning from Home’, staff have produced a resource that can be easily accessed by our families. This resource contains activities and learning links for students at all levels of learning. Staff have also shared a unique email address (below) which can be utilised by parents to clarify any questions relating to the resource. The suggested home learning timetable is included. We understand that each family will need to adapt this timetable to suit their individual home situations. On average, we expect children to complete a minimum of 2hrs 30min of home learning from Foundation to Year 2 and 3hrs 45min for Years 3-6. Staff have designed the Continuation of Learning resource with the following parameters in mind;

● Curriculum and Level Based activities are included for each year level. ● Independent- Students and families should be able to complete tasks independently with some school staff support. ● Accessible- With hard copy or digital formats available, we aim to increase accessibility for all.

Literacy Learning - Reading

Read a book with an adult for 10

minutes.

Have a go at reading your golden or

red words.

Become a detective and look for these

common words in the book you have

read with your adult.

Make a list of words you have found.

- What word is in the book the most?

What words are not in the book?

- Can you find these words in other

books?

Literacy Learning - Reading

Read a book with an adult for 10

minutes.

Have a go at reading your golden or

red words.

Go on a scavenger hunt. Cut out one

list of your golden or red words. Have

an adult hide each of these words in a

different spot. See if you are able to

find all of the common words without

any clues. As you find each word you

can have a go at reading the word.

Once you have found all of your

words, can you put them in

alphabetical order?

can you choose the ones that have

the same letters in your name?

Literacy Learning - Reading

Read a book with an adult for 10

minutes.

After reading the story with an adult

choose your favourite sentence. Have

a go at copying this sentence on a

piece of paper.

Cut this sentence up between each

word and see if you are able to put it

back together.Look at the first sound

and letter in each word to help you.

Can you read this sentence using

your tracking finger and only

reading the word as you point to it?

Can you jumble it up again and

teach another family member how

to put it back together?

Literacy Learning - Writing

Draw a picture of how you celebrated

Easter. Was it with your family? Did

you go on an Easter egg hunt?

Once you have drawn your picture

have a go at labelling the different

parts of your drawing. Listen to the

first sound in the word and write down

the letter that matches those sounds.

- How many different objects can you

label in your drawing?

- Can you hear all of the sounds in

the word? Use your stretchy arm to

help you.

Literacy Learning - Writing

Draw a picture of something you

enjoyed doing on your holidays. Have

an adult write a sentence about what

you did and what is in your picture.

Copy that sentence making sure you

leave spaces between your words.

Use your tracking finger to read each

word.

- Can you read what you have written

to all the members of your family?

Can you read it to some of your

toys?

- Can you have a go at writing your

own sentence? Listen to the sounds

you can hear in each word and

have a go at writing those letters.

You might like to have a go at using

your stretchy arm.

and what they like to do. Choose a

family member and write a sentence

about them. For example ‘My Mum

likes to work in the garden.’

An adult might like to help you write

the sentence or you can have a go at

listening to the sounds and what

letters might match those sounds.

Mathematics Learning

Number of the days I have been

learning maths at home! Just like the

number of the day in the classroom.

- What is the number?

- Write the number as a word. (one)

- What is the number before? After?

- Can you collect that many objects?

- What does it look like on your bead

kebab or on a tens frame?

Practise writing the numbers from

0-10 on single pieces of paper. Make

sure your numbers are written the

correct way. Lay the numbers on the

group in the correct order to make a

number line. Jump from each number

and only count when landing on that

number. Have an adult or older sibling

call out any number for you and jump

on that number. Call out the number

before and the number after.

- Can you start at a number that isn’t

1 or 0 and still count forwards and

backwards?

Have a go at exploring and playing

some of these online maths games:

Religious Education

Setting up a prayer/reflection space

Find a small space in your home that

you can use as a prayer space, you

could use a small table and put some

special things on it. You could start

with a white or gold cloth to represent

the Easter Season. You could then

find a favourite book, a cross, a photo

of your family, some flowers from the

garden.

Ask an adult to write ‘In the name of

the Father and of the Son and of the

Holy Spirit’ and then you can draw a

picture of a cross. Place this in your

prayer space.

Last Sunday was Easter Sunday,

draw a picture of something you know

about Easter.

Inquiry Learning

The inquiry topic for Term 2 is

investigating our environment. We will

be exploring the question: ‘How is my

environment changing and what can I

do to look after it?’

Go out into our backyard. What can

you see, hear or smell?

Draw a picture of your backyard and

talk about some of the natural objects.

Natural objects are things like trees,

stones, leaves, dirt, grass, animals,

insects.

Are any of the leaves on your trees

changing colour?

Where are some other places you

might find these things?

What is something from nature you do

not have in your backyard?

Physical Education

Can you use your backyard to be

active?

Create your own obstacle course

using things in your backyard.

Your obstacle course must include:

- something to go over

- something to go under

- jumping

- running

- crawling

It could look like something like this:

You may like to video your obstacle

course and upload it to seesaw for

your teacher to see.

Remember to always consider safe

play when outside.
