SOME TIPS FOR PARENTS Encourage your child to read books and other materials such as

the newspapers and educational magazines.

Encourage your child to talk about the book or article that

he/she has just read.

Ask him/her to explain his/her inferences and support them with contextual

clues.

Ask him/her to retell or summarise what he or she has just read.

Encourage your child to look up the meaning of new and

challenging words in the dictionary. Get him or her to construct

his or her own sentence using the new word learnt to

demonstrate his or her understanding of the word.
