Dear Resident REMOVAL OF LEMON SCENTED GUM TREES - WORKS IN YOUR AREA WEEK BEGINNING MONDAY 11 APRIL 2016 We are writing to inform you about the upgrade to the Flemington Road/Mount Alexander Road intersection as part of the CityLink Tulla Widening Project. As part of the works and to increase safety and improve traffic flow from the Tullamarine Freeway to Flemington Road, the narrow traffic island on Flemington Road will need to be removed which includes a row of five lemon scented gums. The project team has investigated all design options for this upgrade, however the only option for the construction of a safer more efficient intersection is to remove the existing traffic island and trees. We have also investigated relocation of the trees however expert arborists have advised that the trees would not survive the relocation process. The City of Melbourne and the National Trust have been consulted about the removal of the trees. The City of Melbourne has approved the tree removal and its contractor Citywide will carry out the work. The wood from the trees will be recycled and used as park furniture in nearby City of Melbourne reserves. Costs paid to the City of Melbourne for the removal of the trees will be used for re-greening projects within the City of Melbourne. We are committed to enhancing the environment so in addition to our contribution to the City of Melbourne’s re-greening projects we will also plant approximately 150,000 new shrubs and trees as part of our reinstatement works in the area. The CityLink Tulla Widening project involves adding lanes and other measures to improve the flow of traffic across the 24 kilometre section of freeway from the CityLink tunnels to Melbourne Airport. The project will also provide travel time savings per trip between Melbourne Airport and the West Gate Freeway during peak periods. The project will deliver a safer, more reliable freeway. Generally, an additional lane is being added in each direction, as well as upgrades at key interchanges including Bell Street, Mount Alexander Road/Flemington Road and on the Bolte Bridge to West Gate Freeway entry ramp.

Dear Resident

REMOVAL OF LEMON SCENTED GUM TREES - WORKS IN YOUR AREA WEEK BEGINNING MONDAY 11 APRIL 2016

We are writing to inform you about the upgrade to the Flemington Road/Mount Alexander Road intersection as part of the CityLink Tulla Widening Project.

CPB Contractors is the construction contractor for the Bulla Road to Power Street section of the project.

Where Citywide will be

On the traffic island of Flemington Road, as indicated by the red circles on the map below.

When works will occur

What Citywide is doing

Citywide will remove and recycle the trees to prepare for works to upgrade the intersection which includes the following:

Traffic management will be set up to close a lane to safely cut down the tress A small work crew will be harnessed to the trees and using chainsaws cut down the trees The trees will be placed on to the back of trucks to be recycled and reused as park furniture The traffic island will be made safe for pedestrians and motorists and will not be reinstated with

vegetation.

What to expect Traffic management in place to safely guide motorists and pedestrians around works Lane closures on Flemington Road with reduced speed limit A small team of construction personnel at work Noise from chainsaws when in use.

We are committed to keeping residents and businesses informed and minimise the inconvenience during construction, while keeping the community and our workers safe at all times. Managing and protecting the environment is also important to us and we are working with local and state government adhering to environmental laws to ensure the impact to the natural ecosystem is minimised.
