www.adpc.net/peer CADRE - Community Action for Disaster Response - ttaining course, Bacolod, Negros Occidental, Philippines (2010) CADRE is a training course in which anyone (non-disaster-proffessionals) can learn how to prepare for disasters in their community. With this training, any member of a vulnerable community in Asia can be better prepared to deal with disasters and emergencies. Since communities are at the ‘front line’ of any disaster, better prepared communities mean people have a better chance of surviving disasters. First, a network of Instructors is being trained in each country. These instructors take the training course into their networks and organisations. CADRE is a project from the Program for Enhancement of Emergency Response (PEER) - a regional training program initiated in 1998 by the U.S. Agency for International Development’s, Office of U.S. Foreign Disaster Assistance (USAID/OFDA) to strengthen disaster response capacities in Asia. The Program is currently running in nine countries: Bangladesh, Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Laos PDR, Nepal, Pakistan, Philippines and Vietnam. The Program Goal is to increase capacity to manage and prepare for disasters through good training. Training courses and curriculums have been developed under PEER for Hospital Preparedness for Emergencies (HOPE) and Community Action for Disaster Response (CADRE). These courses are managed by the Asian Disaster Preparedness Center (ADPC) in Bangkok, Thailand.TRANSCRIPT
