1. Gerry Antle

Director of Infrastructure and Public Works City of Mount Pearl Mount Pearl, NL B. Eng. (Civil), Memorial University of Newfoundland, 1987 Certificate in Public Administration, Memorial University of Newfoundland, 2005 I have built my career in public service. I have worked in Newfoundland and Labrador for my entire career since graduation from Memorial University of Newfoundland (B.Eng. Civil) in 1987. Green buildings are now a part of the fundamental design and construction of new facilities. This is due, in large part, to the work of the Canada Green Building Council. I have many years of experience, particularly while working with the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador, as a regional engineer, working in the design and construction field, to Assistant Deputy Minister of a department responsible for facilities. This latter position involved working to develop policies associated with green buildings, and ensuring these are considered integral to our society. My current position with the City of Mount Pearl, as Director of Infrastructure and Public Works, provides further experience in the design and construction of municipal facilities, which have incorporated LEED principles, ultimately working toward certification. I seek your support and vote in the upcoming election for an opportunity to serve on the Atlantic Chapter of the Canada Green Building Council.

2. Christine Bales

Senior Sustainability Coordinator Architecture49 Halifax, NS LEED AP BD+C I joined Architecture49 (formerly WHW Architects) in 2008. In 2009; I began my role in sustainability, became a LEED AP with a specialty in Building Design and Construction and joined the CaGBC Atlantic Chapter. Currently I am the LEED Consultant to Architecture49 in Atlantic Canada, consulting on projects in all 4 provinces and to date have successfully certified 8 LEED projects. Through my daily activities I have been instrumental in standardizing Architecture49 Halifax’s approach to sustainability. As a key member of the architectural team I have developed standards and guidelines to successfully integrate sustainable initiatives like LEED and Green Globes into the design process. Presently I am managing numerous LEED projects in multiple LEED rating systems in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Newfoundland. As a reviewer on CaGBC’s WSP LEED Project Assessment Team, I have involved in the review and assessment of over 70 projects registered under the Canada Green Building Council for New Construction, Commercial Interiors and Existing Buildings. I am both a former and current member of the education committee for CaGBC Atlantic Chapter. In my spare time I am involved in the Appreciative Inquire (AI) Network. The Network is made up individuals from all areas and levels of interest and expertise in facilitation who meet regularly to explore skills and concepts that contribute to professional and personal development. Appreciative Inquiry, like Deep Democracy and the Art of Hosting, are facilitation tools I am well versed in. As a LEED Consultant, I work with multiple USGBC and CaGBC LEED programs daily on projects located throughout Atlantic Canada and believe my work experience will offer useful insight as a member of the CaGBC Atlantic Board of Directors. With the implementation of USGBC's LEEDv4 in October, it is important that the Atlantic Chapter provides its members with the education and knowledge essential to address Atlantic Canada’s needs and I want to be actively involved as a member of the board moving forward.

6. Julien Gallant

Project Manager JW Lindsay Construction Moncton, NB Bachelor of Arts - Mount Allison (2003) CAT (Construction Management 2yr Diploma) - NSCC (2006) LEED AP (2007)

Raised in Moncton, NB, the son of an architect, I am both a graduate of Mount Allison (BA, 2003) and NSCC (Construction Management, 2007). I have worked for contractors both large and small, positions ranging from site supervisor to general manager, and on successful projects in all four Atlantic Provinces. Married with two kids, I enjoy camping, the outdoors, playing music, building things of all shapes and sizes, and spending time with my family. I am running for election on the Leadership Board for three reasons:

• First, for my family, I want to leave my kids with a better build environment and provide positive examples of design and construction as an extension of our values.

• Second, for the industry, I see room for improvement and opportunity for growth. Sustainable design and construction choices are being driven more and more by necessity rather than luxury, which will drive innovation and adoption, and I want to represent both NB and builders/contractors along the way.

• Third, for myself, I want to create an outlet in my career that allows for greater meaning in my work. Commercial contracting can be challenging, and I want to give myself the opportunity to be involved projects and initiatives that provide me with a higher level of personal and professional satisfaction.

9. Jackie Janes

Assistant Deputy Minister Government of Newfoundland & Labrador Office of Climate Change & Energy Efficiency St. John’s, NL BA (Honours) in Philosophy, Politics and Economics from Oxford University in the United Kingdom. MSc (Distinction) in Rural Resources and Environmental Policy from Imperial College, University of London in the United Kingdom. I head up the Office of Climate Change and Energy Efficiency, a central agency in Executive Council responsible for policy and strategy to deliver ambitious greenhouse gas and energy consumption reduction targets. I have been a member of the Board for CaGBC Atlantic Chapter for 2 years, participated in CaGBC events, worked on EnerGuide programs, presented to the National Building Operators and Managers’ Conference, and engaged with the federal government on energy codes. My interest in green building dates back to 2005 when I began leading the UK government team responsible for energy efficiency. I led key initiatives to reduce the impact of the build environment, including a program generating over $3 billion of investment into energy efficiency in households, consultations with industry, and oversight of the Energy Saving Trust, a not-for-profit company. I participated in developing building codes, including energy labeling for existing buildings and ‘zero carbon’ building standards. I am interested in continuing as a board member of the Atlantic Chapter because I believe that there is both a need and an opportunity to strengthen the dialogue between industry and government, with the goal of more rapidly transforming markets for green buildings. With climate change such a high profile issue, there is also an opportunity to lower the carbon footprint of new and existing buildings while making homes more comfortable and affordable to heat. I feel that my experience and understanding of the policy context make me a good candidate for the board and would appreciate your consideration.

Principal International Business Development CBCL Limited Halifax, NS Diploma of Engineering, UPEI (2000) Bachelor of Science (Physics), UPEI (2001) Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical), Dalhousie University (2004) LEED Accredited Professional (2004) LEED Accredited Professional BD+C (2011) Canadian Health Care Engineering Society/America Society of Healthcare Engineers Healtcare Certification (2012) I would first like to thank you for considering my application for the CaGBC Leadership Board position. It is an exciting personal and professional opportunity that I have carefully considered prior to submitting the application and a decision that has not been taken lightly by me. When first considering the opportunity, it was important for me to evaluate how I could contribute to the ongoing success of the CaGBC Atlantic Chapter. My involvement with the LEED rating system began shortly before my original professional accreditation under the USGBC program in 2004. I am currently serving in my eighth year as a member of the board of directors of the Atlantic Chapter of the Canada Green Building Council and over that time I have had the opportunity to see and actively participate an evolution of the Chapter to its current, strong and sustainable position. I have also had the opportunity to participate in number of CaGBC national initiatives and feel that I have a good knowledge of the local and national committees, including being a LEED Faculty member and can use this experience to help continue the transformation of the Chapter. My professional career at CBCL Limited provides me the opportunity to participate in quality sustainable projects across Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick and Newfoundland, as well as projects across the Latin America, Africa, Central America and Caribbean regions. Since that time I have participated directly in approximately forty (40) sustainable design projects including many LEED registered and Certified (Gold/Silver) projects acting in senior design, commissioning and/or facilitation roles. I have also provided advice or recommendation on numerous other projects pursuing or considering LEED registration/certification. Although formally trained as an electrical engineer, my career has allowed me to participate in projects covering numerous sustainable, environmental and renewable power issues. I am also fortunate to be asked to participate as speaker or panelist at local, regional and international conferences relating to sustainable developments and renewable energy. Recent speaking events relating to sustainability issues include guest lecturer at Dalhousie and Nova Scotia Community College, Keynote speaker at the Trinidad and Tobago Engineering Conference on Sustainable developing the Caribbean, Caribbean Renewable Energy Form (Miami), Efficiency Nova Scotia Bright Business Conference and CaGBC Atlantic Chapters Build Green Atlantic events in both Nova Scotia and Newfoundland. I consider these opportunities to accelerate the Green Building sector and use the information gained at these events and speaking opportunities to enhance our Atlantic Chapter.
