Mammoth Celebrates Earth Day 2009 The High Sierra Energy Initiative has announced that it has taken the lead in putting plans in place for Mammoth’s Earth Day celebration this year. HSEI is working closely with prominent local sponsors, including Mammoth Mountain Ski Area, Mammoth Community Water District, Sierra Wave, Town of Mammoth Lakes and the Village at Mammoth to maximize public outreach and encourage participation from the community. “We are delighted to be working with MCWD and Mammoth Mountain Ski Area to again celebrate Earth Day in the Village at Mammoth,” said Rick Phelps, Executive Director of the High Sierra Energy Foundation. Since its inception in 2005, the High Sierra Energy Initiative has been instrumental in partnership building and outreach for the Mammoth Lakes community, providing leadership and guidance in promoting green practices and energy efficiency. Several local businesses will participate, showcasing their green efforts, from recycling information, energy efficiency retrofits, solar displays, organic and eco-friendly products, services and more. Many of the local schools will display their Earth Day-themed artwork, and “envirocrafts” will be available for the kids. Mammoth Lakes residents and visitors will have an opportunity to spend some time learning about the latest green technology and trends for both homes and business, as well as how they are being utilized in the Eastern Sierra. Earth Day will take place on April 18 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Emerald conference room at the Grand Sierra Lodge in the Village at Mammoth Lakes.
