ABSTINENCE AND OTHER
ACTS OF PENANCE FOR LENT The Bishops of the United States prescribe, as minimal obligation,
that all persons who are fourteen years of age or older are bound
to abstain from eating meat all the Fridays of Lent and Good
Friday. Further, all persons eighteen years of age and older, up to
and including their fifty-ninth birthday, are bound to fast by limiting
themselves to a single meal on Good Friday, while the other two
meals on that day are to be light.
All the faithful are encouraged, when possible, to participate at
Mass and to receive the Holy Eucharist daily, to celebrate frequently
the Sacrament of Penance and to participate in parish Lenten
devotions as well as Lenten education programs. All are encouraged
to make some material sacrifices during Lent and give that money to
the poor. Please use our poor boxes.

Today’s readings on this third Sunday of Lent present us with the
theme of “thirst” and show us that a stewardship way of life can both
satisfy our spiritual thirst for Christ and help us to satisfy Christ’s thirst
for souls.
Our first reading, from the book of Exodus, begins with the words,
“In their thirst for water, the people grumbled against Moses.” What
little faith and lack of trust they show after all God has done to free
them from slavery. But Moses cried out to God for help, and sure
enough God provided generously to satisfy thirst. He continues to
provide generously for us these many centuries later.
Our Gospel passage from John recounts the life-changing encounter
Christ has with the Samaritan woman at the well beginning with His
words to her, “Give me a drink.” Then, He adds, “If you knew the gift
of God and who is saying to you, ‘Give me a drink,’ you would have
asked him and he would have given you living water.”
Christ is speaking the very same words to us to us today. These two
verses encapsulate the call to stewardship. Christ asks us to “give him
a drink” by sharing what we have with Him and with others for His
sake. Yet, it is Christ Himself who provides the water — the living
water that is His grace.
God has chosen to include us in His plan for bringing all people to
salvation through Him. We live out our part in His plan through a
stewardship way of life. This Lent, let us resolve to respond to His call
with passion and commitment. Let us do our part to quench His thirst.
Welcome March! March is coming in like a lion as our PREP teachers
fill our students with the might of the Lord and the strength of the
Holy Spirit.
Tuesday's 1st level class sang with the joy of the Lord while Miss Hoey
played her ukulele. Mrs. Schiazza's 4th level class learned about our
first Pope Peter! Wednesday's 4:00 session was filled with song
too! Mrs. Malorgio's class sang a beautiful Lenten song for us. In Mrs.
Foy's class Patrick told us that they learned about the Stations of the
Cross and Holy Week. In Wednesday's 6:00 session Quinn, Keira and
Maddie from Mrs. Hunt's class told us that they learned about the first
three Stations of the Cross, the Wedding Feast of Cana and Jesus being
tempted in the desert. In Mrs. Finn's class, they wrote their own
Morning Offering Prayer and Caitlyn read us her prayer.
"In every young person, a point of goodness is accessible."
Saint John Bosco
BEREAVEMENT Ministry Since February 1999, St. Joseph’s Bereavement Ministry has
provided emotional support and encouragement to those who have
lost a loved one. Each November, we celebrate a Mass of
Remembrance, commemorating the lives of those we have lost. In
the spring and fall, we host a support group facilitated by
professional grief counselors. We call, visit or correspond with
those who are grieving. If you or someone you know has suffered
a loss and we can be of service, please call the rectory at 610-497-
3340. If you feel called to be a part of this ministry, to be present for our families who are navigating their grief journey, please call
Marge at 610-485-8213. 107-2

FAMILY ADORATION NIGHT
Tuesday, March 24TH 5:00-7:00PM
As parents we spend majority of our time running from
one event to the next with our children or planning
elaborate vacations where we come home more exhausted
than when you left!
Ever consider that giving our children the gift of
silence in the presence of God is just as impactful as
learning how to hitting a baseball?
During this season of Lent, add Adoration to your list of
Lenten activities! The Tuesday Adoration will be
extended to 7 pm on March 24th. Bring your family for
even five minutes of silence to experience God’s presence
as you journey through this season of Lent. We will also
have special blessing of the family at 6:45 pm.
