PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE
It is hard to believe that we’re
already into the second last
month of the school year and
we’ve got many things on the go!
Over the next month, teachers
will be collecting student port-
folios and conducting end-of-
year assessments in preparation
for Term 2 report cards that will
go home in June. Our Grade 3’s and 6’s will be busy
writing the EQAO assessment at the end of the
month, while a number of clubs, teams, and activities
will take place.
As the end of the school year quickly approaches, it is
important that parents and guardians stay in contact
with their child’s teachers to ensure that assignments
are completed and progressing well at school.
CARING AND SAFE SCHOOLS We have a number of students with LIFE-
THREATENING (ANAPHYLACTIC) allergies to
peanuts, nuts, and tea tree oil. This also means that
we do not encourage the sharing of food items be-
tween students. If your child has a serious allergy
(dairy, latex, nuts, peanuts, tea tree oil, etc.), please
make sure the school is informed and that any emer-
gency medication is kept at the school. Your contin-
ued support is appreciated!

• Being honest, trustworthy, and incorruptible
• Maintaining steadfast adherence to a strict code
of moral, ethical, or artistic values

ing in the heat of the moment
• Demonstrating that you can be counted on and
trusted

to compliment, and first to forgive.” (Unknown)
“Great opportunities to help others seldom come,
but small ones surround us every day.”
(Sally Koch)
“Though we all have the fear and the seeds of
anger within us, we must learn not to water those
seeds and instead nourish our positive qualities—
those of compassion, understanding, and loving
kindness.” (Thich Nhat Hanh)

MOVING SCHOOLS NEXT YEAR? It is hard to believe that it’s already May and we’re starting to plan for next year!! It is important that parents
inform the school as early as possible if they are planning to move out of the Forest Manor Public School
area by the end of August.
*If your child is currently in JK to Grade 5, and you are planning to move by the end of August, please com-
plete the form below and return it to the school with your child. This way we do not put your child on a
class list, but prepare a transfer form for June. Please return the form by May 11th, 2015.
**Please note: If your child is in Grade 6, there is no need to return this form as s/he will be graduating from
Forest Manor.

STUDENT RECOGNITION @ FOREST MANOR
We feel it is very important to offer incentives to
children to achieve their very best
and to reward them along the way.
Our Four A’s program encourages
excellence in Academics, Arts,
Achievement and Action (community
service). Each term, student earn
certificates, indicating their success
in achieving A’s. If they reach a pre-determined
number at the end of the year, they may also have
their name included on a plaque, which is displayed
in the school showcase. The program emphasizes
the high standards, positive qualities and characteris-
tics that we promote at Forest Manor.
In addition, we feel it is important to acknowledge
the small acts of courtesy and kindness that make our
school a happier and kinder place. Students who are
caught doing acts of kindness are given special
“wolves” which are posted on our “Part of the Pack”
bulletin board. Then, over the morning announce-
ments, we read and “howl’ our appreciation.
Finally, upon graduation from Grade 6 there are a
series of academic and performance awards that stu-
dents receive at the ceremony.

The Eco Owls
Update The Eco
Owls have
been work-
ing on many
things to
help our
school be
more Eco
friendly! We are making monitor
monsters to remind more teachers
and students to try and save ener-
gy by turning off our computer
monitors and smartboards when
we are not using them. We are also
working on a project about plant-
ing seeds such as cucumbers, to-
matoes, and lettuce seeds too! We
are exited about seeing our seeds
grow into food that we can eat!
Dear Parents/Guardians:
Forest Manor Public School has been providing a safe, enjoyable, and enriching place for children to
learn since 1967. It is a vibrant, dynamic school that strives for excellence and providing a wide range of
academic and extra-curricular opportunities for all children to be successful. But in order to provide these
opportunities, our wonderful, dedicated staff and our children need additional financial support.
Forest Manor PS School Council encourages you to participate in this spring’s fundraising initiative
and work cooperatively towards our spring fundraising goal of $25,000. Funds raised this spring will
be used to enhance our children’s digital learning opportunities to prepare them for the 21st century,
provide enrichment activities including mathematics contests and Blue/ Silver Birch reading clubs,
and offer a variety extra-curricular programs such as soccer, basketball, volleyball, and Eco Schools
clubs. Funds will also be spent on enhancing our Library-Learning Commons, as well as our
new outdoor learning area for our new Full-Day Kindergarten program.
The School Council has consulted with the school administration and staff and compiled a wish list of programs and equipment (details on reverse) which are either new or which we would like to con-tinue to provide. It is our goal to raise the funds needed through direct donations from parents and to have these resources in classrooms as soon as possible this school year. This fundraising approach offers three major benefits:
One-Time: Only one major fundraising campaign for this year.
Hassle-Free: It’s simple! Each family just writes a cheque. Our children will not be required to
canvass family members, friends or neighbours for donations. Tax-Deductible: The TDSB (Toronto District School Board) will issue a tax receipt for any donation
$25.00 and over.
Fundraising Target: Our goal is to raise $25,000. If parents/guardians donate $35/child, we will
reach our goal.
Deadline: Donations are encouraged prior to May 31st, 2015, but will be accepted until December in order to receive a 2015 tax receipt.
How to contribute: Return your cheque payable to: TDSB–Forest Manor Public School and in-
clude it with the contribution stub (found on the next page) to the main office.
INFORMATION ABOUT THE FUNDRAISING CAMPAIGN AT FOREST MANOR P.S.INFORMATION ABOUT THE FUNDRAISING CAMPAIGN AT FOREST MANOR P.S.
Why is the cheque payable to "TDSB-Forest Manor P.S.? In order for donations to be eligible for a tax
receipt, the cheque has to be issued to a charity account, which the TDSB has set up for Forest Manor Public School.
All the donations deposited to this charity account will be used to fund programs and purchases for Forest Manor
Public School only.
This is a publicly funded school. Why am I being asked to make a donation? Although the school re-
ceives funding from t h e T D S B , this amount covers basic curriculum necessities such as textbooks, work-
books, and classroom teaching materials. It is not sufficient to pay for additional "perks". The school wishes to
provide additional enrichment programs and purchase materials and equipment that will enhance your children's
learning. These extras are not funded by the Board and this is why it is necessary to raise funds.
Do I have to donate the suggested amount? The $35 per family is a suggested donation amount that will enable us to
meet our goal. If you are not able to donate this amount, we encourage you to give what you can. A tax receipt
will be issued for any donation of $25 and over.
How will my child{ren) benefit from my donation? Our overall intention is to enhance the education of our chil-
dren by making it a more meaningful and enjoyable experience. We hope to fund the following initiatives:
Interactive White Boards and tablets (iPads)
Outdoor learning area equipment for Full-Day Kindergarten (FDK)
Guest speakers and performances
Tournament and referees’ fees
Supplement fees for bussing to field trips and to sport teams’ competitions
Extra-Curricular Clubs and Teams—e.g., Math and Literacy Clubs
Computer Science/Technology initiatives
Special Events/Activities—graduation, talent show, folk dance jamboree, Eco Schools, Welcome to Kindergar-
ten
