PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE
It is hard to believe that we’re
already into the second last
month of the school year and
we’ve got many things on the
go! Over the next month, teach-
ers will be collecting student
portfolios and conducting end-of
-year assessments in preparation
for Term 2 report cards that will go home in June.
Our Grade 3’s and 6’s will be busy writing the
EQAO assessment at the end of the month, while a
number of clubs, teams, and activities will take
place.
As the end of the school year quickly approaches, it
is important that parents and guardians stay in con-
tact with their child’s teachers to ensure that assign-
ments are completed and progressing well at school.
CARING & SAFE SCHOOLS We have a number of students with LIFE-
THREATENING (ANAPHYLACTIC) allergies to
peanuts, nuts, and tea tree oil. This also means that
we do not encourage the sharing of food items be-
tween students. If your child has a serious allergy
(dairy, latex, nuts, peanuts, tea tree oil, etc.), please
make sure the school is informed and that any emer-
gency medication is kept at the school. Your contin-
ued support is appreciated!

Pictured above: An amazing collaborative learning pro-
ject, done by every class. To celebrate Canada’s 150th
anniversary, every class contributed by creating one of the
provinces/territories to form an entire map of Canada.
Pictured above: Mrs. Wichert’s class door decorated by a 3-
dimensional art work showing “first contact” in Canada. The
dotted lines show the voyages of Vikings, John Cabot, and
Jacques Cartier.
LEARNING ABOUT CANADIAN HISTORY
The LEAP students have been learning about
how Canada's First Nations People lived hun-
dreds of years ago. We have learned how the
first Nations people taught the European new-
comers how to live and survive in Canada. Visit
room 116 to see our door of Thank you
notes. Here are a couple of the students letters:
April 28, 1562
Dear First Nations Peoples,
Thank you for teaching me about medicine. first,
you taught me what plants to use for medicine. Next,
you shoed me how to make soup so I didn't ge
sick. You told me what flowers to use. finally ,
thank you for keeping me healthy.
From : A European newcomer (Wassim).
April 28, 1535
Dear First Nations People,
Thank you for teaching me how to make snow-
shoes. Snowshoes help me walk on the snow. I can
walk in deeo snow more easily. Now I know how to
make snowshoes and I can tell my friends how to
make snowshoes and what you need to make them.
Finally thank you, I really liked to learn about you
and is there something else you can teach me?
From: A European Newcomer (Ahmad)

APRIL WAS EARTH MONTH…. FOREST MANOR PS. celebrated Earth Month with vari-
ous eco-literacy projects, initiatives, and events. Pictured
below is a “pledge tree” done by students who promised to
do positive things for the environment. Once again this
year, through the leadership of Ms Cyr, Mrs. Cresta and
Ms Kaell, Forest Manor is hoping to reach the ECO
Schools Platinum certification level.
MOVING SCHOOLS NEXT YEAR?
It is hard to believe that it’s already May and we’re starting to plan for next year!! It is important that parents
inform the school as early as possible if they are planning to move out of the Forest Manor Public School
area by the end of August.
*If your child is currently in JK to Grade 4, and you are planning to move by the end of August, please com-
plete the form below and return it to the school with your child. This way we do not put your child on a
class list, but prepare a transfer form for June. Please return the form by May 8th, 2017.
**Please note: If your child is in Grade 5 or 6, there is no need to return this form as s/he will be graduating
from Forest Manor.
