PRESIDENTS MESSAGE

To all of the Lodges that finished plus-one, Congratulations! In these trying

times that is a huge accomplishment. The future of this great Fraternal

Organization depends on our membership, LOOM and WOTM. Keep up the

great work and keep us strong.

The International Moose Convention in Las Vegas, NV is just around the

corner. We will be voting on some very important issues. Make sure your

Moose Lodge is represented. Make your reservations today, there’s still

plenty of time left. We need to show great support from California / Nevada. The International Moose

Convention is a great way to visit all our Fraternal Brothers and Sisters from around the Country,

Canada and England. Las Vegas, NV is always a blast! Hope to see you there!

If you were fortunate enough to meet Harry Johnston, our Supreme Governor on his visit to Southern

California you were one of the lucky ones. He is what being a Moose Member is all about. Thank

you to Bill Martin our Deputy Supreme Governor of the South for hosting Mr. Johnston all around

Southern California. I was lucky to spend time with him and bring him to my Moose Lodge in La

Habra, CA. He also snuck in a visit to the Ronald Regan Library which he really enjoyed. Great job

on all the host Lodges, you all made us very proud!

To all District Presidents and Committee Chairman, I would like to thank you for what you do. Bud

Harwood and Johnny Robinson need certain things from you. Don’t make them ask twice. Please

do the jobs you signed up for. If you need any help at all, they are there to assist you. We need

reports from all of you. For those of you who do your job, I say thank you very much.

Youth Awareness, what a year! The entire California / Nevada Moose Association sends a big

Congratulations to the entire staff of the Youth Awareness. “Gary Stromme, Bridget Robinson, Linda

Eithier and Marcell Podany”. They put an awesome amount of time and effort this past year. The

end result is a young Senior High School student from Western High School in Orange County

finished in 1st place. His name is Nguyen Ha Tran and he won a $12,000.00 Scholarship. By the

luck of the draw he was sponsored by La Habra Moose Lodge. Bud Harwood, our Vice President,

with myself, 10 members of La Habra Lodge were on hand for the awards presentation at Buena

Park Moose Lodge. Tammy Le and Thi Le sponsored by Downey and Anaheim Lodges were also

finalists in the completion. Great job District 19 and congratulations to all of the students who

participated!

Thank You to each and every one for all you do each and every day. In closing let’s remember to

“Be Nice and Have Fun”.

DEPUTY GRAND REGENTS MESSAGE Congratulations to all our new 2019/2020 elected Officers, appointed Officers and Chairmen. You have been chosen by your co-workers to “Create our Future.” Your Chapter has confidence in you and so do we. Have a great year, and remember to treat all members of this fraternity the way you want to be treated…be kind, be huggable. Special congratulations to all of you that fought the fight to retain your members and add new members to earn the Award of Achievement.

I’d like to remind you to register for the International Conference in Las Vegas, NV. Register by May 31st and save $100 in registration fees. This is going to be a great Conference. There are changes on the Horizon and I’m sure you will want to be the first to know what those changes are! The Moose International Conference is a wonderful way to meet up with other members you’ve met traveling around the country or at previous International Conferences. There are workshops, booths, the catalog store (oh so dangerous when all these Moose goodies are at your finger-tips!), and lots of fun WOTM and joint sessions during the Conference. The Karaoke Finalists are a MUST SEE, and they are FREE, great entertainment! Let’s not forget the entertainment for our 25 Club members and the League of Guardians event! This conference is so close to home for our California/Nevada members, we should have the best in attendance! I want to take a moment and congratulate our new Incoming Deputy Grand Regent. We’re all excited to know who you are and we’ll have that privilege soon. Personally, I have enjoyed meeting so many of our co-workers this year, you have all been so warm and inviting. I know as our new Deputy Grand Regent, you will have a fantastic year, but it goes by so quickly. See you in Las Vegas, NV when the secret is announced! I’m sure you’ve heard through the grapevine that our 2020 Mid-Year Conference will be held in Buena Park, at Knotts Berry Farm’s Hotel. Co-workers, we’ve been complaining for years that Reno is too far, so make sure you make reservations shortly after our Annual Convention. The co-workers in Mid-to-South of California and Nevada should be showing up in force, for the first time in decades the Mid-Year conference will be on your back door (or close to it!). There will be more information provided by the Association which includes discount tickets to Knotts Berry Farms, so be sure to keep an eye out in the Gold Miner and online for more information.

As discussed in the last issue of the Gold Miner, your Chapter should be receiving a letter from Women of the Moose headquarters with information and instructions on how to proceed with contacting your membership, having a special meeting to vote Yes or No about joining the CA/NV Moose Association. I understand it has been mailed, so please be sure to be on the lookout for the letter and be prompt at sending letters to the co-workers in your Chapter. Schedule your special meeting specifically for this topic and vote, then get the results back to Women of the Moose headquarters immediately. The sooner this is completed, the sooner we move forward to “Create Our Future.” I want to thank the co-workers from Monterey, Pacifica, San Jose, Sunnyvale, Vallejo, Napa, Delta, Concord, Pittsburg, and Hayward/Castro Valley for your kindness, selfies, and most of all your hugs during my visit to the Bay area. I am so glad I had the opportunity to meet you. I look forward to coming back for another visit to meet more of you, before September. A special thank you to, Past Deputy Grand Regent, Delores Inabnett for taking the time to have lunch with me and to be my driver on Saturday. I appreciate your warm introductions and for driving me to Vallejo, Napa and Delta.

Thank you so much, it was a fun day! Ladies, you are truly WOMEN OF THE MOOSE and you make our Fraternity Strong and Proud…as they say, You Go Girls! Thank you to the co-workers of Placerville for volunteering to be the Hostess Chapter at our Annual Convention. I look forward to working with you, and visiting your Lodge again (such a wonderful Lodge/Chapter hidden in the woods). Co-workers, please keep an eye on the CA/NV website. We should have the registration forms and agenda posted within a few weeks for our Annual Convention in Reno, NV (Sept 6-8). This will be a Convention of Celebration for our Sr. Regents that have earned their Green Cap, celebrating Membership, and celebrating/installing our new incoming Deputy Grand Regent! We haven’t been assigned our Official Visitor for Annual Convention, but we’ll post it as soon as we know. In closing for this month…A few Facts & Hints about Hugs. There is NO such thing as a bad hug: there are only good hugs and great hugs. Hug someone at least once a day and twice on a rainy day (that’s a lot of hugs for this year! ☺). Hug with a smile, and, never hug tomorrow someone you could hug today! In Friendship with Hugs, Charly Papp Deputy Grand Regent [email protected]

Executive Committee – Perry James Association Treasurer

TREASURERS MESSAGE Greetings from the California Nevada Moose Association (CNMA) Executive Board of Officers: By now you have probably heard that the CNMA Executive Board of Officers is working on having the Mid-Year Conference in Southern California. The reality is close to becoming fact.

There are a few more I’s to dot and t’s to cross, but it’s close. Stay tuned for more information as it becomes available. We have received a couple of checks that bounced. We would like to get these taken care of and clear that off our books. I sent letters to the guilty parties and if you received a letter, please get these taken care of. It’s just bad business and you won’t be able to give us another check at least until it’s taken care of. Thanks for getting these done. The CNMA is still working on the Disaster Fund. It’s not easy to get information from other Associations if they haven’t put it in their by-laws. We are still working on it so don’t give up hope yet. Financially the CNMA is doing fine. We are keeping all the red ink out of our books and that’s a good thing. Keeping us in the black is what it’s all about and keeping our obligations paid is also important. It’s time to start nominations for the new District and CNMA Boards. Fill out the information sheet and get it sent into the Secretary to be considered for a CNMA position. Please write clearly so we can read it. Thanks for all that you do! Perry James, Treasurer CNMA 831-338-1076 [email protected]

Executive Committee – Joe Rigazio Association Jr. Past President

JR PAST PRESIDENTS MESSAGE I have to tell you that time sure does fly! I have only four months left and I will be out of office for the California Nevada Moose Association. It’s hard to believe that five years have flown by that quick and I got to tell you though, I had a great time serving you while on the Executive Board. There are a lot of good things going on for the next few months. For Memorial Day there will be a special Memorial Day celebration going on

at the Fernley Veterans Cemetery, the very next day it’s a road trip to Pilgrim Degree Conferral in the House of God and the Mooseheart Commencement Ceremony for the 8th Grade and High School Graduation. Next will be at the International Moose Convention in Las Vegas, NV June 27 – July 1, 2019, followed by a 4th of July celebration and parade with the Veterans Coalition marching in the parade. Finally, some more fun riding the Rogue River in Oregon on a jet boat! “Moose on a Mission” - Seems we have been on a mission for years and years. Signing new members is so important to keep our Lodges alive and that’s because we are still losing our members faster than we are signing them. I spoke of this before, RETENTION, RETENTION, RETENTION. You want to survive? Then start figuring out why we are losing our members so fast! Start listening to them and CHANGE!! Those Lodges that are in trouble have two choices. Listen and change or fold. We have already lost enough Moose Lodges and Chapters in California and Nevada, so it is way past time to Listen and Change. Hoping to see you at the Mooseheart Graduation or in Las Vegas, NV. Fraternally and Friendship, Joe Rigazio, Jr Past President CNMA (775) 575-5359 [email protected]

Executive Committee – Fred Reichelt Association Secretary

SECRETARYS MESSAGE Greetings once again and on behalf of our Board of Officers, Thank You all for everything you do and for your support of our Association! The months of June and July are a very busy time for many of us. New lodge officers have been elected and many are repeats and we thank you for your continued service. For the new Officers, welcome and we thank you for coming forward. Feel free to reach out for help and understanding from the experienced Officers. We need new applicants and with the way the

fraternity is moving forward on many plains, we expect new opportunities and challenges for many. Speaking of new opportunities, I would say the opportunity of the LOOM and WOTM coming together is a hot topic in many locations. The poll taken at the Mid-Year was positive about the merging of our organizations. However, there are many discussions going on and questions to be answered. The LOOM will have a vote at the Annual Convention, and I will assume the WOTM will have one as well. Change is good and can benefit all of us and make us stronger. The Executive Board is now accepting applications for the position of Association Prelate for the year 2019-2020. The application must include a written resume (not a time line) and the appropriate application on the CNMA Website. In addition, it is also time for the new District Officers, Committee Chairman and updated list on Committeeman. Please note the new District Presidents must submit the names for his District Officers, and be able to use email for his District that we supply. (No exceptions on this). With all this said, the forms for submitting for the positions noted, can be found on our Web Site and Secretaries Column. The deadline for submitting all applications is July 15, as noted on the forms. The Association Executive Board will meet shortly thereafter this date to review all applications. The month of June, brings us two opportunities for travel. On the weekend of June 1st, we have graduations at Mooseheart and our new Pilgrims, whoever they might be. This year we do not have any students graduating from Mooseheart, however we will have new Pilgrims and I will do my best to get some great pictures to share with you, as in the past. Please note the new Pilgrims will have ceremonies in their respective Lodges. If you have not been to one, do your best to go and see, very impressive. The week of June 27 through July 1, 2019 brings another time to get together in Las Vegas, NV for our International Moose Convention. It will be fantastic and will be attended by many of us, and then returning home on or about July 1st. I am sure there will be many topics of discussion that will benefit all of us and I understand there will be some topics for discussion that were discussed at out last International Moose Convention.

Page 17: California Nevada GOLD MINERca-nvmoose.org/PUBLICATIONS/CNMA-NEWSLETTER/JUN... · Charly Papp – Deputy Grand ... International Conference is a wonderful way to meet up with other

Last but not least, the announcement you have been waiting for -- we will be going to Southern California for our CNMA Mid-Year Conference 2020. The date is February 27th and departing on February 29, 2020. Reservation number is as follows: 714-995-1111. We looked at numerous locations and we feel we have the best for all of us at the Knotts Berry Farm in Buena Park. Some prices are lower and a few higher but more benefits. Also new friendships can be made. See the comments by our liaison Jim Waggoner in his article for more information. We will need your support to make this location work for us. By the way, speaking of new friendships, check out the photo of Chris and Jim with Snoopy. Before closing I would like to thank all the fraternal units who are sending their Moose Charity Checks directly to Moose International Moose Charities. We requested this about two years ago and about 95% of you are doing this, and getting the credit you deserve faster for your donation to a great program. In closing, I would like to thank everyone again for all their continued support for our Association. No one does it alone, remember we are a TEAM, Together Everyone Achieves More. God Bless our Military, First Responders and Children at Mooseheart.

LIAISONS MESSAGE As we start a new Moose year let’s all go out and get our friends that have not renewed their dues to come back into the Lodge and Chapter because we miss socializing with them. At this time, we have 6,046 Lodge members expired, 4,885 Lodge members on the dropped list, 5,169 WOTM members expired and 4,119 WOTM members on the dropped lists. This gives us 20,219 former members to talk to and get them to renew. Please, Administrators and Recorders, have the arrears lists names and

phone numbers available to our active members so they can help the Lodge and Chapter to be a plus one. We can use the Higher Degree holders to help us in this. That is the main reason the Council of Higher Degrees was started and they are here to help -- they are not signing up your members for credit they are just getting them to renew their dues. At the Mid-Year, we asked the question what about the Chapters joining the California Nevada Moose Association (CNMA). This will give the Ladies a voice in how the CNMA works, the question was asked in both the men’s and ladies meetings and both approved the idea. We now have a Bylaws Review Committee looking at the Washington Association bylaws to convert them to our CNMA, for a vote to change our bylaws at the September 86th Annual Convention. The Chapters have a different way of approving this. Fred and I have found a place for the 2020 Mid-Year Conference outside of Reno, NV. We will be at the Knott’s Berry Farm Hotel in Buena Park, yes in the south. But we will need the help of all members to participate to make this work. Reservations information will be on the CNMA web page soon. Thank You for all you do. Jim Waggoner, Territory Manager / Liaison CNMA 619-993-3066 [email protected]

Cheryl D. Volden – CA/NV Training Coordinator

TRAINING “It is a mistake for anyone to think he has lived too long in his old, unsatisfactory ways to make the great change. If you switch on the light in a dark room, it makes no difference how long it was dark because the light will still shine. Be teachable. That is the whole secret.” What a wonderful quote from Vernon Howard to remind us that we are never too old to learn something new. Aren’t we lucky that we have been provided with so many opportunities for training in California and Nevada? And that we have online training available 24/7? It is your responsibility to take advantage of these

opportunities by attending the scheduled sessions or taking the training online! Training has been scheduled and published on the California Nevada Moose Association (CNMA) and Moose International (MI) websites. On the CNMA website select Fraternal Education to find an Administrator School, 2 Day Hands on Technical Training (2 HOTT), WOTM Training Sessions, Moose Legion Educational Conference (MLEC), or Lodge Leadership & House Committee (LL&HC) training sessions. Why not request a Governor’s Workshop, Committees Workshop, Treasurer and Audit Committee Workshop, or Trustees Workshop? Have you been keeping your bartenders up to date on their Training for Intervention ProcedureS (TIPS) training? Not keeping them current can be a costly mistake for a lodge. This training can also be taken on-line; don’t forget to use your Moose 40% discount code MOOSETIPS. During the months of April, May, June and July you receive double Moose Rewards points for attending or taking an online training course! Online training is available on the Moose International website at www.mooseintl.org. Don’t forget that in order to receive credit you must complete the Assessment Test and receive a score of 80% or higher. All Moose trainers for the CNMA can be found under Fraternal Education, select the Fraternal Ed Info tab of the CNMA website at www.ca-nvmoose.org. Visit the site often to see what has been updated and where training is scheduled so you can make plans to attend. On the Moose International website go to Moose Training, select Online Training. Women of the Moose (WOTM) are eligible to take the On line 2 HOTT unless they are working toward the Star Recorder degree. So, if you already hold the Star Recorder degree or have previously attended a 2 HOTT session just take the assessments and receive a score of 80% or higher and receive credit that is good for two years. Don’t forget about the importance of attending these training sessions if you are trying to qualify for WOTM personal honors; Leadership Awards (Loyal Order of Moose (LOOM) & WOTM can both earn Leadership Awards) or simply trying to abide by the mandatory training requirements for the LOOM. If you are interested in learning more about these mandatory requirements go to the Moose International website at www.mooseintl.org and select Moose Training. There is also a downloadable training brochure that has all the information needed on Moose Training.

As we look ahead to the coming year, we should be reviewing any updates to training required for achieving the Premier Lodge Award, Leadership Awards, 5 Star Award, Chapter Award of Achievement, Moose Legion Director’s Key Club and other Moose Legion programs. It will soon be 990 tax time for our fraternal units. Please file your 990 by the required due date of September 15th. Not filing can be very costly as interest and penalties accrue daily. Go to the CNMA website, click LCL net, scroll down the right side of the page and click one of the clickable links found under the Tax Procedures section. Not sure what to do? Call a Moose Technical Trainer Deborah Story – she is happy to assist! Call her at 310-704-7669 or email [email protected]. WOTM are also required to file the CA199N or CA199 if they have an entity ID number. A listing of entity ID numbers for all chapters is also on the CNMA website under Tax Procedures. Your greatest resource is Deborah Story, 310-704-7669 or [email protected]. As the Training Coordinator for the CNMA, you may contact me directly at any time for assistance. I can be reached at [email protected] or 805-338-1305. I look forward to providing you with assistance in achieving your fraternal unit goals which secure the future of Mooseheart and Moosehaven. Derrick Morris – CA/NV Moose Riders Chairman / President

CA/NV MOOSE RIDERS We have now donated over $55,000 in 4.5 years. We have done this in just 54 months, just slightly OVER $1,000 per month of our existence. This has been accomplished by the 610 Moose Members that have been or are CA/NV Moose Riders. We currently are at 260 Active members of which 109 are now LIFE MEMBERS. A special shout out to the Carson City Moose Lodge for hosting a wonderful time on Thursday Night during the

Mid-Year Conference. The chartered bus back and forth was a definite hit. It was a Win for the Moose Riders and a Win for the Carson City Lodge. There are rumors this may become a new tradition when Conferences are held at the Atlantis. Our new Challenge Coins are in… And almost SOLD OUT of our first 300 coins. We can do a reorder if we have enough that want one. At only $5 each, they are a real bargain. I was able to present each of the Class of 2019 Mooseheart Graduates (along with Scott Hart and Gary Urwiler) a coin courtesy of the CA/NV Moose Riders at the laptop presentation. Thank you to the members for approving this donation. The students also each received a $50 bill from the CA/NV Moose Riders for the 4th year in a row (a tradition we started that they really enjoy!!). It was again an honor to represent the CA/NV Moose Riders at the Mooseheart Blessing of the Bikes and Laptop Presentation. CA/NV Moose Riders were recognized as being a donor of a laptop for five years in a Row. (Every Year we have been around). I am very proud of this accomplishment. The CA/NV Moose Riders Jamboree being sponsored by the Big Bear Moose Lodge IS STILL ON!! June 21-24 (the weekend prior to International Moose Convention in Las Vegas, NV). Derrick Morris – Heart of the Community Committee Member

HEART OF THE COMMUNITY I will be honest and say that I am a little disappointed with the participation of the Moose International Heart of the Community Committee Youth Awareness Jackets Fundraiser. Only two Lodges (APPLE VALLEY and LEWISTON) from CA/NV have participated as of this writing. There is more participation from Alaska (three) than from our own CA/NV – I know we can do better. I know a lot has been going on at the end of the prior Moose Year. WE NOW HAVE A NEW BOARD AT EACH LODGE. PLEASE PARTICIPATE!! Now for those lodges that have not participated yet, here is an opportunity to start 2019-2020 Moose year on the right foot and get a CORE INITIATIVE Youth Awareness on your first quarter report. When you are reading this, I will have the 10 Moose International Youth Awareness Congress Official Jackets for the 2019 Youth Awareness Congress and I will keep the drawing open until the end of June (For each $100 donation to the HOC Youth Awareness Jacket Fund I place an entry into a drawing for the Jackets). Please Send Donations made out to MOOSE CHARITIES with HOC Youth Awareness Jacket Fund in the memo area. Mail the check to me: DERRICK MORRIS, 9651 MARTIN LANE, PRUNEDALE, CA 93907. DID YOU KNOW… our very own Nguyen Ha Tran won the top prize of a $12,000 Scholarship at the 2019 International Youth Awareness Congress!! Way to go CA/NV and a big Congratulations to the Southern CA Youth Awareness Team! GREAT JOB!! HEART OF THE COMMUNITY REPORTS – We are at the start of a new Moose Year. Let’s make a concerted effort to have all lodges in CA/NV get four Superior Grades this Moose Year. I am more than willing to give ideas and to help your lodge get the credit it deserves. Send me an email ([email protected]) and I will send you an ideas sheet for each category. The more you diversify the better your score will be. Lodge Administrators and Lodge Heart of the Community Chairman – CORE INITIATIVE OPPORTUNITIES EXTENDED UNTIL END OF JUNE… Moose International Heart of the Community Committee Youth Awareness Jackets Fundraiser. CORE INITIATIVE Youth Awareness as discussed above. CA/NV Moose Riders May 2020 VIP Camp Ross/Mooseheart Fundraiser Tickets. Robert Bakman – CNMA Moosehaven Centennial Project

CNMA MOOSEHAVEN CENTENNIAL PROJECT NEWS Hi Everyone: Well here we are in the final phase of the Moosehaven Centennial Project and our Committee would like to start off by saying THANK YOU - THANK YOU - THANK YOU on behalf of the Seniors at Moosehaven, your Association, Moose Charities and ourselves for your generous donations and effort put forth toward making it all come together.

So, where are we? Well as of April 30, 2019 we are only $3,476.52 from our goal of $250,000.00. So, what are we going to do? Well the first thing is we are going to establish a final date for donations to apply towards the Awards Program. Taking into consideration Moose Charities heavy workload, wherein it takes about 30+ days from when you send your donation before it is credited to you and the fact then we have to receive a report of donations, update our spreadsheet, establish Awards levels for those receiving recognition, order and receive Awards all before the CNMA Annual Moose Convention, where they will be presented at the Awards Breakfast. Well that date is Monday, July 1, 2019. So now what happens? Well hopefully everyone will help spread the word and send in a donation, NO MATTER HOW LARGE OR SMALL, every dollar counts toward the Goal. There are a number of units who are close ($5 to $50) to an Awards Level. So read the spreadsheet and spread the word!

A Reminder about AWARD LEVELS, they are: 1st Level $335, 2nd Level $670, 3rd Level $1005, 4th Level $2010, 5th Level $3015, 6th Level $4020, 7th Level $5025, etc.

So, get your donation in the mail to: Moose Charities - 155 S International Drive, Mooseheart, IL 60539-1100. Not Tomorrow - TODAY!! Again, we THANK YOU for all your support in making our fundraising effort on your behalf successful. You’re A to Z Moosehaven Project Committee: Mike Aldridge, Bob Bakman Chairman, Chuck Barber, Leonard Chapman, Mark Dicky, Bill Farley, Bill Thompson, Leonard Vyfvinkel, and Joe Zenkus

Denise Angeles – WOTM Heart of the Community Chairman

HEART OF THE COMMUNITY

Did you know that GREAT ideas come from members who have SUPERPOWERS such as the rocker/cradle fundraiser which was actually the idea of a past Moose Charities Board Member? That’s right – sitting around a table at Moosehaven after a board meeting, Gene Joyce conjured up the idea as a way to help Lodges and Chapters collect additional endowment donations. You see, so many of our members have such great ideas as to how to help

Mooseheart, Moosehaven, Moose Charities and our Communities. I hear so many times that “WE TRIED THAT AND IT DIDN’T WORK!” Times have changed and new ideas should be tried. If we fail, then we pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off and try a new adventure. As we have meetings in our Chapters and Lodges, we must realize that all our members have great qualities and ideas. EVERYONE has superpowers! Your talents, your strengths, and your passions – those are your superpowers! No matter who you are, where you live or what your job is, YOU have a superpower. The thing is, in order to become a superhero; you have to USE your superpowers. We need to challenge our chairmen to look inside themselves, and discover their superpowers and determine how they can use them to benefit Mooseheart, Moosehaven, Moose Charities and our Communities. Can you use your superpowers to welcome new members into your lodge home and ask them to help our communities? Or, perhaps, you can use your superpowers to share with your friends about the good that the Moose Fraternity does every day. Whatever your superpower is, you can use it to do good deeds. Let’s all be heroes that do great things for our Fraternity and our communities. Our Fraternity helps our communities in so many ways. At our conferences, we donate blankets, hats for cancer patients, Tommy Moose coloring books, bookmarks, crayons and Tommy Moose for children in need, but this is such a tiny portion of what we do. We also provide food donations to the Ronald McDonald House, make donations to the Shriners Hospital, volunteer at hospitals in the name of Women of the Moose. Moose Lodges and Chapters have done the “Cop in a Box”, which provides parents with a CD that has all the child’s information on it, in case something happens. We also have the Heart of the Community Scholarship Program. Let’s all do our part in making our communities know who the Women of the Moose and Loyal Order of Moose are. Let’s all be proud to say we are Moose on a Mission and Create Our Future! Denise Angeles, WOTM Heart of the Community Chairman

Carol Veach – CA/NV Membership Coordinator

Women of the Moose Membership By Carol Veach, CA/NV Membership Coordinator

CHAPTER CHEERLEADERS ROCK!

We are starting a new year. New officers and chairmen are now in place. We know these Co-workers will work hard for us, going to classes and spending a lot of their time planning great meetings and functions for us. They will make a great team! Now it is our job to cheer them on – to make sure they know how much we appreciate all they do for us and for our children at Mooseheart and our seniors at Moosehaven.

The Membership Motivators came up with a new Membership Campaign that started May 1, 2019. “Who do we appreciate – SPONSORS and CANDIDATES!” The job of the Motivators is to help us all increase our membership numbers. But you can tell how much it will mean if we all become cheerleaders for everyone around us. A pat on the back, a kind word, a big smile – all these will make someone’s day and cheer them on to do even more.

When you see someone new in your Moose Home, introduce yourself and ask about her. She could become your new best friend. She will also be happy to renew her dues because she feels welcome and warm in her Moose Home. Be the cheerleader that makes that happen!

Our membership poster also says, “We’re LOUD and We’re PROUD!” And we are! Grab your pompoms and tell the world how happy you are to be a member of the Women of the Moose. Let them know you are proud of the work we do to support our children and seniors.

Check to be sure the posters are up in the lady’s room where everyone has time and opportunity to read them. Ask your newsletter editor to put a smaller version in the newsletter each month. Ask your Senior Regent to talk about the campaign at meetings to remind everyone to sponsor members. It really works and I believe every chapter can make it happen.

Send me an e-mail if you need ideas or want to sound out a new one. Reach me at [email protected]. I would be happy and proud to help any way I can.

PATRIOTS BULLETIN

Valued-Veterans & Patriots: [Post a copy & Make a copy for a Veteran or Patriot] We have tried to share the most current and up to date information regarding, not only subjects and issues affecting veterans and their dependents but also news regarding items, initiatives, claims, benefits, discounts and programs which should be of interest to ALL AMERICAN PATRIOTS. We – the veteran’s community, is the bastion of AMERICANISM. There has been so much touted about “America’s Greatest generation,” the generations which lead us into success in World War II and the Korean conflict. The greatest common denominator was the military draft and American military service, coalescing the many, toward a common goal.

There are no greater American advocates than those who have served their country. But American PATRIOTS abound in our communities; often because of the service of their father/ brother/grandfather/sisters ETC… Sometimes PATRIOTS sprout because they had NO opportunity to see or have relation to public service. We don’t care WHY; we just want to help ORGANIZE this great American resource. Brothers and Sisters of the Moose Family Fraternity – Please help! There IS an AMERICAN PATRIOTS INFORMATION NETWORK; and it works only when we are all connected and sharing information. There should be by now a District Veterans Director selected/appointed by every CNMA Moose District President as well as a Moose Lodge Veterans Leader or Team. We will lead our CNMA association to accomplish amazing things if we join together and communicate. First, we need all PATRIOTS to subscribe to the California~Nevada Moose Association “GOLD MINER” newsletter. This Veterans & Patriots newsletter is always included in the Gold Miner newsletter every other month, &.to subscribe & receive this newsletter FREE, send an E-Mail to: [email protected] with the Subject: “SUBSCRIBE GOLD MINER”. That’s it! The CNMA GOLD MINER is a full color illustrated newsletter with information on every program and project of the Moose Family Fraternity, and the Valued-Veterans Information Bulletin is always included. There are a

number of ways with which you can access our information, and programs: 1) CNMA Gold Miner newsletter, 2) CNMA Website – Ca-NvMoose.Org, and 3) if you want to communicate with us, if you have ideas, information, questions, problems or suggestions; remember that there is almost always something happening TO veterans and not always FOR veterans, and you will get that information HERE! The problem is that TOO MANY veterans are not-yet-connected together with us. PLEASE– PLEASE, be a part of the SOLUTION, DO SOMETHING: make copies of these pages and pass them out among anyone you think of as a true PATRIOT. From years of experience, sometimes it will be the non-veteran who is the most committed and the most active advocate for all that we represent. So, what is it we are pushing? We are true American seeking to lead and by our example, teach and inspire a sense of “True Americanism” in our societies. Believe me, there are leaders in your lodges, but

they are often disguised as the “average Joe.” FROM THE TOP:

1. At the nation’s Capital, newly introduced Senate Bill 622 is a n effort supported by most veterans’ organizations that would eliminate the so-called “WIDOWS TAX.” It would allow dependent spouse to keep their Military Survivor Benefit Plan (SBP) payment, even if they are eligible for DIC. This would correct current law which requires a dollar-for-dollar offset if the Spouse received DIC.

2. The V.A. <Veterans> & D.O.D. <Military Retirees> are considering a recommended “METHIDOLOGY” that will guide decisions for patient’s medicines (formulary) based upon a number of considerations on a practicality/cost-effectiveness scale which first considers the age, current

condition, and issues such as the probable percentage of improvement to the patient’s quality of life Vs. years of life remaining; and NOT exclusively ’what is best FOR THE PATIENT!’ We need to come together and get involved before it is too late. 3. In the CA State Legislature Senate Bill 55 will nearly double the resources for each County Veterans Service Office to expand and increase services to veterans and dependents– Please VOTE! 4. VETERANS CHOICE continues to see changes as the Congress demands improvement and the V.A. appears to embark upon a program to meet the absolute minimum requirements to keep financial impacts to their budget, as low as possible. HEART OF THE COMMUNITY

I want to start out with saying thank you for all that helped in making our March Mid-Year Conference

a successful one.

There are so many that helped I don’t want to miss anyone. You know who you are.

In March at the Reno, NV Mid-Year Convention, we gave the Reno Fire and Police Departments six

cases of Tommy Moose Dolls, along with giving Renown Children’s Hospital four cases.

I’m here to tell you it’s hard to hold back the tears, just seeing the smile we put on a child’s face.

Thank you – Thank you Moose Family for all you do in helping the Heart of the Community by

donating cases of Tommy Moose Dolls.

Without the support we receive we couldn’t do what we do.

It’s been a fun year so far.

I am proud of my committees and all of you that made all this happen.

Without you we wouldn’t be “Moose on a Mission”.

I still would love to go back to Sacramento Shriner’s Hospital, but without the support of the north

and south we will not be able to do so.

Please read my flyer in the Gold Miner.

If we all pull together, we can make this happen!

Once again, I can’t Thank You for what you do.

Thank You,

Roddy Myers

CNMA Heart of the Community Chairman
