When a young father from our church changes into gym clothes in the office bathroomand drives to a ball field to coach a little league team, our church is doing ministry. Whenan accountant who is a member of our congregation gets up at 5:00 A.M. to get an early

start at work so she can come home and cook dinner for her children and the neighbors daughterwhose mother works swing shift, our church is doing ministry.

Every time one of our members, inspired by the gospel proclaimed by First Christian Churchof Fullerton, acts in love on behalf of another our church is doing ministry. Seen this way, most of theministry performed by our church benefits only one person or a small group of people. Over thecourse of a week, though, the ministries of our church reach thousands of people in hundreds of actsof loving kindness, generosity, compassion, forgiveness, encouragement, instruction, andtransformation.

Every time you set aside your expectations and reach out to someone in need, you extend theministries of our church. Maybe you are passing through a season of life during which you havelittle time beyond the hours you have obligated to your family and your work. Dont feel guilty thatyou dont have a lot of time to put into the churchs programschances are you are engaged inministry every day, maybe even every hour or every few minutes. When your circumstances shiftand you want to find additional ways to proclaim the good news, our church and its programs willbe here to provide the means for you to be in service to others.

Jesus did not tell us to go and create programs, hold meetings, and develop policies. He toldus to proclaim the gospel. Ideally, we develop policies, hold meetings, and create programs tofacilitate the proclamation of the gospel. Ideally, the programs of the church enable us to combineour individual efforts to proclaim the gospel more broadly and more effectively than we could everdo on our own. We look forward to the day you feel called to contribute to a long-standing ministryof this church or develop a new ministry into which you can invite other members of thiscongregation.

Perhaps you are already deeply involved in the programmatic ministries of this church.Maybe the programs of this church provide the primary outlet through which you proclaim thegospel. If so, we are gratified to know God is using our church to empower your proclamation of thegospel.

Maybe you feel called to start a new ministry through our church, and youre not sure how toget started. Its easy! First of all, ask yourself if your proposed ministry falls within the mission of ourchurch: Being open to Gods spirit, the mission of First Christian Church of Fullerton is to proclaim the gospelof Jesus Christ through witness and service. Responding to Gods will, we strive to be an active community offaith in the world. Second, find two or three people who share your passion and will help make youridea a reality. (We dont want you to get burned out!) Finally, talk with Debra, Darrell, or one of ourlay leaders to determine which of our four ministry teams would provide support and guidance foryour efforts.

Whether you are deeply involved in our churchs formal ministries, trying to start a newministry, or doing ministry on your own, you are still doing ministry, and God rejoices over every

effort you make to share the good news in your daily life. We are proud to know our members goout into the world every week and share the gospel in word and in deed. The next time you stop and offer a kind word or a hand up to someone in need, whether a

family member, a neighbor, a coworker, friend, or acquaintance, know First Christian Church isdoing ministry through you. And the next time you are wondering what kinds of ministry ourchurch offers, know we offer every kind of ministry called forth from our members.

    ProgressReport--EmergencyClean-UpBuckets*(Pleasenotechangeinprice.)

We are coming up to the third of six Sundays of collecting items that will makeup the individual Emergency Clean-Up Buckets we are going to send to Church

World Service for them to distribute to people in the U.S. and other countries who are dealing withdisasters caused by tornados, floods, hurricanes and earthquakes, to name just few of the naturaldisasters which strike at various places across our nation and Canada.

At the halfway mark we have done extremely well. Nine completed buckets were on displayin the Narthex last Sunday. Pat Van Vliet's dialogue with the children as part of Children's Momentson June 2 provided a commercial for the buckets. Thanks Pat. After worship, Phil Forbes, ourexcellent Project Coordinator, received checks that will fill 20 additional buckets during this week. Those of us who are part of the Outreach Ministry thought if we could provide 25 buckets throughthis project, we would be doing very well. Not even at the halfway mark we have already surpassedthat figure. Our vision was, indeed, too small! We will be continuing this project through the monthof June. That's four more Sundays. If you'd like to make a gift of a bucket, the cost is $ 62.14. If youwant to partner with others to create a bucket, feel free to do so. If you want to contribute a few itemsfor a bucket, that will be a great response, too. You'll find a number of buckets, each with a card at itsbase, telling you which bucket to use for the individual items you choose to purchase for this project.

If you want to make a cash donation, in any amount, please make your check payable to FirstChristian Church, write "Emergency Bucket Project" on the memo line, so we know your intention foryour gift. It will be combined with other gifts and Phil will purchase--from ACE Hardware,Fullerton--the items that the combined gifts will allow him to purchase to increase the number ofbuckets that this project will generate throughout June.

We continue to be grateful for the generosity of ACE Hardware, Mike Olsen, Manager, inhelping us to do this project. We also are most grateful to Phil Forbes for his interest in andcommitment to this project. Thanks, too, to everyone who has generously supported this project todate!
