SpecialTriptoTijuana  On several occasions in the finalweeks of 2015, we told you about a special tripthe Outreach Ministry is planning, inpartnership with Casa de Oración, to visit anorphanage in Tijuana on Saturday, January23rd.

It’s now 2016 and that trip is just threeweeks away, so we are re-issuing the invitationfor three to four people from our congregationto go to the orphanage which is known to theCasa de Oración congregation. The purpose ofthis visit will be to meet the staff and some ofthe children and youth for whom they care andto discover ways our two congregations mightbecome involved in this ministry.

We have two people who are planning

to go on 1/23—Phil Forbes and Craig WallaceWe’d like at least 1 or 2 more people to joinsome 5 or 6 people from Casa de Oración forthis “fact-finding visit.” If you are interested inbeing part of this group, please speak toMichael Shepherd who will be serving as theChair of the Outreach Ministry in 2016.

The Outreach Ministry

Resolutionfor2016  I recently was introduced to an idea that Iplan to implement in 2016. Being a personwho would rather text or email than snail mailor even phone calls, I decided that I wouldwrite at least 2 handwritten thank you notes aweek. Writing these thank you notes in 2016will force me to look at the many things in mylife for which I am or need to be grateful. Here are a few tips:

Hand written notes - emails don't count

Mention what they actually gave or did foryou.

Write a sentence or two on how it changedyour life.

Maybe mention the importance of theirfriendship.

2016MinistryTeamOpportunities   As we begin a new year, we would like to share FCCF’s MinistryTeams. You are invited to join whichever team(s) you feel called to serve. There is no better way to get to know your church family than to work side-

by-side in service to others through FCCF Ministry Teams.

Discipleship – Lin Garcia, Chair. Meets Second Wednesday of the month at 7 P.M. in Chapman

LoungeThis team provides leadership of both formal and informal educational opportunities for all

ages. The Holy Spirit challenges the boundaries we build to exclude "them" from "us". TheDiscipleship Team will continue to examine behaviors of exclusion to find ways to change them andwork toward a gospel of inclusion. This team is also in the process of developing new methods toshare our faith through Discipleship with others.

Hospitality & Welcome – Judi Smedley, Chair – meets on the third Wednesday of month at 6:30 P.M in the Narthex (or at least this first meeting.)

We will have our first meeting of the New Year on January 20 at 6:30 P.M. If you areinterested in helping plan the activities for our church (picnic, outings, etc.), we would love to haveyou join us. If you have any questions, please feel free to call Judi at 714-738-7337. Hope to see youthere.

Stewardship/Property – Minde Findley, Chair – Meets on the third Wednesday of each month at 7P.M. in the workroom.

Stewardship works to broaden the understanding of commitment and the investment ofpersonal talents, finances, and energy in our congregation. They prepare the budget and oversee theexpenditures and income. If you enjoy numbers and puzzles (no, you DO NOT have to be a mathwhiz) you may have found your calling.

Property oversees the care of our church. They organize workdays, seek out competent

contractors for major jobs, and keep our church up and running efficiently. If you have some timeand expertise in the handyman area, please talk to Minde or Tom Beck.

Outreach – Michael Shepherd, Chair – meets on the third Wednesday of the month at 7 P.M. inChapman Lounge.

This team is responsible for the six special offerings of our denomination as well as provideopportunities for service and giving to both local, national and worldwide programs for people inneed.

Worship – Chris Fee, chair – meets on the third Wednesday of the month at 7 P.M. in the Choir Room

This team works with the minister to provide meaningful services that engage our hearts andminds for spiritual growth as we experience the Grace of God.

Global Missions Task Force – Patty Segura, Casa De Oración chair – meets on the third Wednesdayof the month at 6 P.M. in Chapman Lounge

ThankYou,ThankYou,ThankYou   I’m most grateful to all of the people who took a role in the planning and leading of the Serviceof Nine Lessons and Carols, over which I presided, on Sunday, December 27th in Dale’s absencefor a well-deserved time to be with his family as part of the Christmas and New Year’s holidays.

Our readers, in the order of the lessons they read, were: Chris Fee, Michael Shepherd, Leslie Beck, Barry Woodbridge, Judi Smedley, Ted Adams, Kathy Wright, Pat Vannoy and Emily Malotte. Pat also served as our LayLeader for this special service. All of them acquitted themselves well! Special thanks goes to Chris Fee, Chair of theWorship Ministry who met with the readers during the Sunday School hour to coordinate the logistics for the service. We

were delighted to have Kathy Wright, Reader #7, come forward at the end of the service to join our congregation bytransfer of membership from the United Methodist Church in Yorba Linda.

Our Choir provided us with a wonderful anthem setting of “Lo, How a Rose E’re Blooming” following thereading of the third of the nine lessons. Heidi Beal began our service by singing the first stanza of “Once in Royal David’sCity,” after which the Choir and congregation joined her as the Choir processed down the aisle to their places in the ChoirLoft. Mitch Hanlon and Rod Baghari at the organ and piano gave us great support on all of the music we sang andtreated us to a delightful jazzy arrangement of “God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen” for the Offertory. By the way, in caseyou didn’t recognize the music Mitch played during the serving of communion, it was the tune of the hymn, “Her Baby,Newly Breathing,” No. 158, on which I based the Communion Meditation. Thanks to our soloists who represented thethree kings by describing their gifts—Pat Vannoy, David Styffe and Cam Malotte—as part of our singing of the familiarhymn, “We Three Kings."

Luanne Bailey gave the children some important things to think about through her leadership of the Children’s

Moments. Thanks, Luanne! Glad your cold which kept you out of the Choir didn’t keep you from sharing with thechildren, and all of us.

Behind the scenes, but very important to the flow of the service, were the slides of the readings from the Bibleplus the texts of all of the Advent/Christmas hymns and carols we sang. The slides were prepared by Amy Styffe. Clare

Keech got all of those slides, probably as many as 100 plus of them, up on the screens without a hitch, while also makingsure that the sounds system was functioning well so everyone could hear what was being said. Thanks to Amy and ClareAlso, a big thank-you to Donna Woodbridge who put together our “longer than usual” worship bulletin.

Finally, we are grateful to Sunday’s acolyte, Kayla McCuen and to Kelly McCuen for assisting her. Thanks toeveryone who ushered or functioned as a member of the Diaconate on Sunday, plus thanks to P.J. Vannoy and Kathy

Robidoux, who served as our Elders at the Communion Table. Once again, we were reminded that meaningful worship isthe result of the leadership and participation of many people week in and week out!

Ed Linberg , Guest Worship Leader/Preacher

for the Service of Nine Lessons and Carols
