A BSAC shout-out to Alejandro Berrio, whose third summer at Camp BSAC

puts him in good stead to know what it takes for a counselor to succeed. “Patience, a lot of patience, and being a kid at heart,” he said. “I like playing wth the kids and being a role model, someone they can look up to in some shape or form.” Alejandro said he loves arts and crafts and he’s been a huge help at BSAC, crafting items for the bulletin board.

Cool activities for Creepy Crawlies week included Dirt Cups (made with

pudding, crushed Oreos, and “worms”) and caterpillars crafted with Popsicle sticks. Two field trips took campers to the Lowry Park Zoo, where the photo booth was a big hit, with kids behind a jeep facade as a creepy “dinosaur” leers from behind (see page 2). When word arrived that a former camper was in the hospital recovering from an accident, the seniors (grades 6 though 8) designed and personalized a super-sized “Get Well Soon” poster, complete wth their handprints and

signatures. “We just wanted to show Jackson’s family that we’re there for them as a BSAC family, and that we miss him and his brother,” said counselor Anna Massaro, about the poster for Jackson Gannon, whose brother, Cole, is a current BSAC camper. One thing is certain this summer, “we’ve had a great group of kids,” said BSAC Camp Director Shelby Johnson. “Their behavior and how they step in and help their friends, their responsibility level, their willingness to try new things. They’ve been a great representation of BSAC summer camp.”
