Deputy Principal’s Report - Canberra Trip2016

It was two weeks ago that 79 weary but happy Year 6 studentslanded at Brisbane Airport returning from an action-packed tripdown to Canberra. They toured our National Capital takingin Questacon, National Library, National Capital Exhibition,National Portrait Gallery, Old and New Parliament Houses,Australian Electoral Commission, Royal Mint, NationalArboretum and many other historical and cultural landmarks.

The Australian Government recognises the importance of allyoung Australians being able to visit the National Capital as partof their Civics and Citizenship education. To assist families inmeeting the cost of the excursion, the Australian Governmentis contributing funding of $60 per student under the Parliamentand Civics Education Rebate program towards the costs. Thisrebate is paid directly to the school upon completion of theexcursion.

One of the abiding memories of the camp is sure to betobogganing down slopes of beautiful fresh snow in the SnowyMountains. Another experience to remember will be campingunder canvas in sub-zero temperatures at Dubbo Zoo, beingwoken up by the roars of lions and hippopotami. Brisbaneseemed so warm on return! It is great to report that guides, officials and general members of the public regularlycommented on the exemplary behaviour and manners of thechildren. Well done all Year 6 Camp Hill students!

Habits of the MindIn preparation for the Leadership Program the Year 5 studentsare engaged in HoM 5.

HoM 5 is ‘Metacognition – Thinking about Your Thinking’. Thestudents are looking at: possibilities; how our actions affectothers; consequences; being mindful and; employing strategicplanning.

HoM 10, ‘Gathering Data through the Senses’, encourages usto pay mindful attention to the world around us. Utilising oursenses, we follow our natural path to learning. Our sensesare our doors and windows to this world. The Year 3 classesthought about what some of their ‘favourites’ were:

SEE - my family, happy people, kittens, Mum’s face, pets, views.HEAR - nature, music, leaves blowing, chirping birds, laughter.TOUCH - fur, water, puppies, gooey things, softblankets.TASTE - chicken curry, trifle, salty water at the beach, popcorn, tacos.SMELL - fish and chips, sunscreen lotion, flowers, theschool tuckshop.

All students on both campuses are keeping ‘Persistence’ inmind. We are mindful of giving it our best shot, not beingquitters and keeping focused on the goal.

Camp Hill U12s Girls Football TeamLast Friday week, the Lytton District Champions (Camp HillState School’s U12 Girls football team) coached by Mr Makplayed Calvary Catholic College in the semi-final of the Met EastChampionship.

With the game being played at home the support of the schoolwas overwhelming.

Both teams were eager for the first goal and although Calvary’smid-field and forwards had plenty of opportunities, Camp Hill’sdefence remained solid with some amazing saves by our goalie,Lily B.

As the girls took to the field for the second half, play becamemore intense with the prospect of extra time and penaltieslooming. With no goals scored play went into overtime.

Despite the heat the Camp Hill girls did not waver. Mr Makcontinued to encourage from the sidelines and the wholeschool was behind the girls. With a couple of seconds left ofextra time Tayhlia scored an amazing goal, leading Camp Hill tovictory.

What an amazing effort by such passionate players and coach- a very proud moment for Camp Hill State Infants and PrimarySchool.

Last Friday the girls and Mr Mak were sent off under an honourguard to play against Guardian Angels at Cavendish Road SHSin the Metropolitan East Final.

Guardian Angels scored the first goal in the first 5 minutes froma penalty even though Camp Hill’s defence was very strong. The Guardian Angels forwards put up a good fight and finishedthe first half at 4-0.

Lily-Rose scored a goal for Camp Hill in the second half and thegirls continued to fight on. The final score was 4-1 to GuardianAngels.

The girls’ sportsmanship and team work was exceptional. Weare all very proud of them!
