We offer 8 themed weeks full of fun, adventure, learning and laughter. Explore nature, swim in Lake Michigan, learn about animals and their habitats, play new games and enjoy some old favorites. Campers will make new friends and memories at Camp McSauba! Our Crew Meredith May is Camp Director for the second year at Mt. McSauba. Prior to becoming our Director, Meredith worked at Camp as a Counselor and has brought with her many wonderful ideas and passions. Meredith has a background working with children of all ages in childcare, school and camp settings. All of our Counselors are a combination of high school and college-age students and certified teachers who have current CPR, First Aid and Lifeguard training. The Counselors will engage with the campers in all activities, provide a safe and fun environment, and create new summer memories. Camp McSauba, per state licensing, maintains a 10 - 1 camper to staff ratio. We are all looking forward to a fun and unforgettable camp season! Camp Hours and Fees Drop-off is between 8:30 and 9:00. Camp begins at 9:00. The door will remain locked until 8:30 so please do not drop your child off before that time. Pick-up is at 4:00. Because our days are packed with scheduled activities, it is important that our Campers arrive on time. It is equally important that Campers are picked up on time as many of our Counselors have second jobs they need to get to. Thank you for helping us stay on time! Again his year we are offering before and after care options. Camp Sunrise allows campers to be dropped off at 8:00 AM Monday - Friday. There is a $25/week fee and pre-registration is required. Campers not registered for Camp Sunrise will not be allowed in the Lodge until 8:30 and parents/guardians must stay with their child until 8:30. Pick up is at 4:00. No exceptions. Camp Chill extends pick-up time to 5:15 Monday through Thursday. Friday pick-up remains 4:00. Campers will wind down with games, crafts, or just enjoy the weather outside and relax. Summer Youth Programs

T-BallOpen to boys and girls between the ages of 5 - 7. Games are played at the T-ball field on Carpenter Street and are typically on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 6:30 and 7:30, mid-June through mid-July. Actual schedule to be determined.

Flag FootballAll children in 1st - 4th grades in the fall are eligible to play. Game are played on Kipke Field September - October.

Skate ParkCharlevoix maintains and operates a supervised, family-friendly, community skate park located on Carpenter Street, across from the ball fields. It is open to skateboarders, BMX riders, in-line skaters, and scooters.

Junior TennisOpen to boys and girls ages 7 and up. Lessons are offered for beginners and intermediate players and are held at the City tennis courts on Elm Street. There are 2 sessions, beginning in June and running through July.

Other Community Programs

Little LeagueThis local youth baseball and softball league is open to boys and girls ages 6 - 14. Games are played at the Carpenter Street ball fields. Website: https://clubs.bluesombrero.com/charlevoixll

Sailing ProgramSail Charlevoix offers a full selection of sailing classes for children and adults for our northern Michigan community, visitors, and friends. Website: https://www.sailcharlevoix.org

Junior GolfOpen to boys and girls ages 8 - 16, this program uses legendary coach John Wooden’s famous Pyramid of Success. Play takes place at Antrim Dells, Belvedere and Charlevoix Golf Club. Mid June - mid July. Website: https://www.chxjrgolf.com

Try-it-Tuesdays at Camp (TBD)Camp McSauba is working in conjunction with Munson Healthcare Charlevoix Hospital’s Wellness Workshop to encourage campers to learn about, prepare and taste new foods. We will also use Try-it-Tuesdays to learn a new activity, game or sport.

a Sessions / Weekly ThemesWeek 1: June 21 - 25 Branching Out: Our first week of camp starting with trying new things, as well as tree identification and lots of forest activities!

Week 2: June 28 - July 2 Fish & Fireworks: This week will start out with fish and other aquatic inspired activities, including a sail on the Inland Seas ship and a day in downtown Charlevoix! Then, we’ll close out the week by celebrating the 4th of July together.Week 3: July 5 - 9 Movin’ and Groovin’: Sports, dancing, fitness, and more. This week will be about being active, and having fun at the same time!Week 4: July 12 - 16 Animal Adventures: A nature themed week with a focus on our natural wildlife. This week will have special guests with live animals!Week 5: July 19 - 23 Carnival at Camp McSauba: One of our popular themes from last year returns! Carnival games, face painting, maybe even some cotton candy to recreate Venetian at Camp.

Week 6: July 26 - 30 Summer Soak: A favorite theme among staff and campers. This week is filled with water balloons, a slip n’ slide, and a dunk tank! Come to camp in your swimsuit every day this week.Week 7: August 2 - 6 Campers vs. Wild: Survival, problem solving, and building skills will be necessary for this week!Week 8: August 9 - 13 Going Green: Campers will play games and do activities about conservation, recycling, and repurposing materials for a greener lifestyle.

Charlevoix County Community Foundation recently awarded The City of Charlevoix Recreation Department a grant to incorporate environmental education within Mt. McSauba’s day camp curriculum. This support will drastically impact the camp curriculum through an intentional increase of environmental education and awareness. The additional programming will emphasize science, writing (journaling), and a connection to nature.
