CHARLEVOIX TheRayders have hired oneof their own to helpright the ship.

After a subpar 2012football season that sawthe Rayders finish wellbelow their normal av-erage for wins in a sea-son and following theresignation of JoePruchnicki, Charlevoix

found themselves look-ing for a head coach forthe third time in lessthan a year.

The man selected forthe job is former Ray-der graduate RonBindi. Coach Bindigraduated in 1971 fromCharlevoix and boasts

30 plus years of coach-ing, which includesstints in Texas, Illiniosand other parts ofMichigan, includinghigh school Division IIand III and was also acoach in the ArenaFootball League withthe Grand Rapids Ram-page.

His most recentcoaching job was lastseason in Bellaire

where he lead the Ea-gles to a 9-4 record andan appearance in theeight-man football statefinals where they fell toDeckerville 14-12.

for eight-man football

due to their small en-rollment. The Eagleswent 25-9 in Bindisthree years coachingeight-man football,where he coached five

seasons in total.After retiring from

teaching this spring,

Bindi was encouragedby community mem-bers to apply for thecoaching vacancy andafter the Rayderscreening process was

complete, he was hired

for the job.I applied, and was

fortunate enough toget it, Bindi said.One of our goals iswere looking to bringsome enthusiasm backto Rayder football.

After being awardedthe position, Bindiquickly got a summerprogram started forweightlifting and con-ditioning and itseemed to draw quite afew participants.

We had morningworkouts, and therewere usually around 30kids, grades 9-12, in theweight room everyday, the coach said.We had a solid coregroup and it was wellattended.

The varsity rosterwill be represented by20 Rayders, and the JVprogram will boast 26-28 players.

The coach looks torun the triple optionoffense and play ag-gressively on the de-fensive side of the ball.

We need to be fun-damentally strong,mentally strong andphysically strong andin shape, coach Bindiadded. We feel we arewell on the way to ac-complishing two of thethree things, we justneed to concentrate on

the fundamental pa
