SUMMER MUSIC CAMP 13 Ms. Anja Arko, Piano Instructor, is a Slovenian born pianist pursuing a DMA in Piano Performance at UNCG where she studies with Joseph Di Piazza. She completed a Bachelor's degree in Piano Performance and Music Education at the University of Ljubljana and continued her studies in the US at the Schwob School of Music in Georgia. She also earned a MM degree in Piano Performance from the University of Florida. Arko has studied with Alexander Kobrin, Natalia Antonova, Ann Schein, Yong Hi Moon, and Robert Roux. Mrs. Patricia Hughes Ball, Conductor of the Week Two Goldman Senior Band, is the Director of Bands at West Forsyth High School in Clemmons, North Carolina. She is a 1994 graduate UNC-Chapel Hill and a 2004 graduate of UNCG. She received certification from the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards in 2007 and recertification in 2017. Prior to her coming to West Forsyth, Mrs. Hughes Ball was the founding director of the Cedar Ridge High School Band program in Hillsborough, NC. She is also an active adjudicator and clinician. Ms. Diane Blanchard, Piano Instructor, is a nationally certified teacher of music, and owner of a highly successful piano studio. She is a summa cum laude piano pedagogy graduate of Meredith College, and has served on the faculty of the Raleigh Conservatory of Music. She was past president of the Raleigh Piano Teachers Association, past president of the NC Music Teachers Association, and currently Southern Division Director on the MTNA National Board. Ms. Blanchard is a frequent adjudicator at the state and local level. Mr. Charlie Burts, Conductor of Week Two Blue Junior Band, is a graduate of UNCG and is currently in his 25th year of teaching. He has enjoyed 17 years in the Fairfax County Public Schools, where he currently serves as Band Director at Sidney Lanier Middle School. He also previously taught for 10 years at Carl Sandburg Middle School. Since 2006, his bands have commissioned and premiered works by Brian Balmages, Michael Oare, Erik Marales, and Robert Thurston. Previously, he also taught in Raleigh, NC at Ligon GT Middle School, where he also served as Chair of the Fine Arts Department. Additionally, he taught in Chesapeake, Virginia at Western Branch High School. For 20 summers he has taught at the UNCG Summer Music Camp, where he was named to its “Hall of Fame.” He resides in Springfield, VA, with his wife Mindy, and their two sons Simon and Alex. He has appeared as a solost for the Washington-Idaho Symphony, and the North Carolina Symphony, the Royal Academy of Music and Drama in Glasgow, Scotland, the North Carolina Music Educators Association, the Piedmont Wind Symphony, the Fibonacci Chamber Orchestra, and the Michigan Pops Orchestra. He is a member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing, the Voice Foundation, and College Music Society. He performs frequently throughout NC and at numerous locations including Piccolo Spoleto Festival, the National Conference on Percussion Pedagogy, North Carolina Day of Percussion, Percussive Arts Society National Convention, Charleston Southern University, and Greensboro College. Currently, Dr. Dancy is the music teacher at Winget Park Elementary in Charlotte, NC. He also maintains a private studio of piano and percussion students. This is his 15th year working at SMC. Ms. Elizabeth Davis, Piano Instructor, is completing a DMA in Piano Pedagogy at USC (ABD). She holds a BA in Piano Performance and a MM in Piano Pedagogy from UNCG. During her time at USC, Elizabeth was a piano instructor at Columbia International University and USC School of Music's Center for Piano Studies. This is her third year teaching at the UNCG Summer Music Camp.

Dr. Joseph Di Piazza, Piano Instructor, earned his BM from DePaul University and the MM and DMA from the University of Wisconsin. Dr. Di Piazza is a member of MTNA, the National Federation of Music Clubs, Pi Kappa Lambda, and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia. He has performed throughout the United States and Europe as a recitalist, chamber player, and soloist with symphony orchestras and has performed in festivals at Interlochen, Eastern Music Festival, Chicago Spring Arts Festival, the Beethoven Festival on Long Island, the University of Illinois, Methodist College, and UNCG.

Mrs. Jennifer G.M. Duerkoop, Musicianship Class Instructor, is the Director of Bands at Rising Starr Middle School in Fayetteville, GA. She is a graduate of UNCG with a BM Flute Performance (2000). She joined the US Army Band Program in 2001, and served proudly both in Heidelberg, Germany and Ft. McPherson, GA, until December 2008. While in the Army, she toured and was soloist in 19 countries and received the Commandant's Coin of Excellence for her quintet's performance at ABLT (Army Band Leader's Training). This is her 24th year working with Summer Music Camp, where she is a member of the SMC Hall of Fame.

Dr. André Duvall, Piano Instructor, has performed as a piano soloist with the Arkasas Symphony and University of Memphis Symphony orchestras, and has served as a clinician, adjudicator, and performer in the South. He operates a piano studio in Memphis, is on the conservatory faculty at Lausanne Collegiate Schools, serves as Organist-Pianist-Handbell Director at Mullins United Methodist Church, and is active as a solo pianist. Andre holds a DMA in piano performace from UNCG and a MM from the University of Memphis.

Mr. Ryan Ellefsen, Conductor of the Week One Senior Orchestra, is the Director of Bands and Orchestras at East Chapel Hill High School. Mr. Ellefsen is also the advisor for the East Chapel Hill Chamber Society, an extra-curricular group of over 70 students dedicated to the lifelong pursuit of chamber music as well as the Online Composition and Tri-M Clubs. Ellefsen graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater in 2000, earned his MEd. from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities, and received National Board Certification in 2010.

Mr. Rob Elliott, Trumpet Instructor, is a current DMA student at UNCG. He earned his Bachelor's degree in Music Education and MM in Trumpet Performance from the University of Kentucky under the tutelage of Vince

DiMartino and Mark Clodfelter and is an active member of the Lexington Brass Band. Most recently, Mr. Elliott was the 2nd place finalist in the Women's International Brass Conference and Solo Competition and the overall winner of the Mock Military Band Audition Competition held at Northern Kentucky University.

Mr. Chris Ferguson, Conductor of the Week One Orange Beginner Band, is currently the Band Director at the Braxton Craven School in Trinity, NC. He is a graduate of Appalachian State University (BM) and the UNC School of the Arts (MM) and is a National Board Certified Teacher. He is principal trombone with the Salisbury Symphony and trombonist with the Giannini Brass. Mr. Ferguson has performed with numerous organizations including the Barnum & Bailey Circus Band, Guy Lombardo and his Royal Canadian Mounties, the Longhorn Rodeo Band, and the North Carolina and Long Bay (SC) Symphonies.

Mr. Josh Follweiler, Musicianship Class Instructor, earned his BM in Music Education from UNCG in 2005. He has experience teaching middle school and high school band, and he is currently teaching General Music at Wentworth Elementary School in Rockingham County. While in Rockingham County, Mr. Follweiler has served as chairperson for the Elementary School All-County Chorus and directed numerous musical programs. Mr. Follweiler is also the Youth Director at Madison United Methodist Church. This is his 15th year working at SMC.

Mr. Ronnal Ford, Musicianship Class Instructor, is the English Horn/Oboist in the Fayetteville Symphony Orchestra and an adjunct instructor at Guilford Technical Community College and Forsyth Technical Community College. He is currently earning his Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Oboe Performance from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Ronnal graduated from the North Carolina School of the Arts, obtaining his Master of Music in English Horn and Oboe performance and his Bachelor of Music Performance in 2006. He performs with the Winston-Salem Symphony and the Piedmont Wind Symphony. As a woodwind a specialist, he also performs with theater companies in Greensboro, Winston-Salem, High Point, Durham, Hickory, and Elon.

Mr. Ed Gunther, Trumpet Instructor, is a trumpet performer and private teacher in North Carolina. He recently earned a Master's Degree in trumpet performace from Bowling Green State University and earned his Bachelor of Music Degree from UNCG in 2015. This fall Ed will return to UNCG to continue his studies in pursuit of a DMA degree in trumpet peformance.

Ms. Marjorie Harrison, Conductor of the Week One Green Beginner Band, is Director of Bands and Orchestra at Broughton Magnet High School in Raleigh. She graduated from UNCG with a BM in Music Education in 2004 and a MM in Education in 2008. She is an active clinician and has been fortunate to have her jazz band perform at the NCMEA Professional Development Conference. She is a member of Sigma Alpha Iota International Music Fraternity, Delta Kappa Gamma International Society for Women Educators, Central District Bandmasters Association, NAfME and NCBDA.

Mrs. Diane Higgins, Piano Instructor, earned her BM degree in Piano Performance at Salem College. As a violinist, Mrs. Higgins has been a member of the Charlotte

and Winston-Salem Symphonies. She has served on the MTNA Board of Directors and is former director and president of the MTNA Southern Division. She has been invited to present composition lectures and sessions at the MTNA National Conference, State Conference, and at numerous colleges and universities.

Dr. Catherine Keen Hock, Clarinet Instructor, works on the administrative staff for the UNCG School of Music, the woodwind faculty at the Music Academy of North Carolina, and as a freelance musician living in Greensboro. She performs across North Carolina as bass clarinetist for the Salisbury Symphony and Fayetteville Symphony Orchestras, is co-principal clarinet of the Piedmont Wind Symphony, and is a founding member of the award-winning chamber ensemble, Quintet Sirocco. Her degrees include a DMA in clarinet performance, MM in performance from UNCG, and a BA with Honors in Music from Wake Forest University. This is her twelfth summer working for the Summer Music Camp.

Dr. Andy Hudson, Clarinet Instructor, recently joined the clarinet faculty of the UNCG School of Music. Andy has won top honors at the MTNA National Senior Woodwind Competition, the Sewanee Summer Music Festival Concerto Competition, the MTNA Southern Chamber Music Competition, and both the Columbus State University and Northwestern University Concerto Competitions. Several of his performances have been broadcast on WFMT Chicago, including his 2011 performance of Scott McAllister’s Black Dog as soloist with the Northwestern University Symphonic Wind Ensemble. A noted interpreter of contemporary music, Andy has premiered and commissioned dozens of works to date and has performed with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra on their MusicNOW series, at the Bang on a Can Summer Marathon, and at the Art Institute of Chicago, the Eastman School of Music, and Constellation. Andy earned his Doctor of Musical Arts in Clarinet Performance with a Cognate Certification in Music Theory from Northwestern University, where he also earned his Master of Music degree. He earned his Bachelor of Music degree from Columbus State University’s Schwob School of Music. His primary teachers have included Steve Cohen, J. Lawrie Bloom, and Lisa Oberlander. When he's not practicing, Andy enjoys cycling, running, reading, playing guitar, eating local food, watching baseball, and acquiring obscure instruments.

Ms. Tracy Humphries, Conductor of the Week One Purple Junior Band, a native of Spartanburg, SC, received her Bachelor of Music Education from UNCG in 1991 and her MM in Music Education degree from The Florida State University in 1996. She became a National Board Certified Teacher in 2003. Ms. Humphries is currently the Director of Bands at Forest Hills High School and East Union Middle School in Marshville, NC. She was selected in 2013 as the recipient of the South Central District's Award of Excellence and was chosen by the membership to conduct the 9-10 All-District Band in 2017. Ms. Humphries has been a member of the Summer Music Camp staff since 1989.

Mr. Tom Jenner, Conductor of the Week One Goldman Senior Band, recently retired as Director of Bands at Millbrook High School. He holds the MM from Florida State University and the BM from UNCG. Mr. Jenner has served as the Director of the Duke University Wind

Symphony. His band performed at the "Ensemble of Excellence" series at Appalachian State University and has performed twice for the NCMEA Convention. He was awarded the Central District Bandmasters Award of Excellence in the spring of 2012, and has also been named Band Director of the Year by that organization. He is a founding member and has served on the board of the North Carolina Wind Orchestra.

Dr. Wei Jiao, Piano Instructor, is a soloist and devoted chamber musician. She has given performances nationally and internationally. Wei was born in Shenyang, China, and studied at the Shenyang Conservatory of Music receiving a BM in Music Education. Dr. Jiao received the DMA degree in Piano Performace from UNCG, the MM degree in Piano Performance from Syracuse University and the BM in Piano Performance from Columbus State University. She joined the Department of Music at High Point University in 2016.

Mr. Eric Johnson, Conductor of the Week Two Piano Camp Chorus, was the Choral Director at James E. Holmes Middle School in Rockingham County, NC where he directed a choral program of over 280 singers. In the fall of 2016 he began work on his PhD in Music Education at the University of Mississippi. At Ole Miss he assists with all choirs and teaches courses in choral conducting, choral literature, and music appreciation. Eric holds degrees from Appalachian State and Florida State University, He also served on the executive boards for NCMEA and NC ACDA.

Ms. Natalie Khatibzadeh, Piano Instructor, is a current DMA piano student at UNCG. She received her MM in Piano Performance from The University of Maryland-College Park and a BM in Piano Performance-Collaborative Emphasis from Ithaca College. At UNCG, Ms. Khatibzadeh has worked as a teaching assistant for Class Piano, Secondary Piano, and Fundamentals of Music online. In Bethesda, she served as a piano teacher at the International School of Music. Ms. Khatibzadeh currently studies modern piano and harpsichord.

Dr. Anna Lampidis-Glantz, Oboe Instructor, enjoys a career as an orchestral player, chamber musician, soloist and teacher. She currently serves as principal oboist in the Salisbury Symphony Orchestra and Oboe/English horn positions with the Greensboro Symphony Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra of the Triangle, and the Carolina Chamber Symphony Players. Her degrees include a DMA from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, an MM from Yale University, and a BM from the University of Miami (FL). Dr. Lampidis-Glantz is currently a member of the music faculties of UNC Chapel Hill, Wake Forest University, and Salem College.

Dr. Emily Loboda, Saxophone Instructor, is a solo saxophonist, chamber musician, and educator. Emily has performed as a soloist with orchestras in Tennessee, Michigan and North Carolina and has been heard as a soloist and chamber musician throughout North America. She was awarded an assistantship for summer 2016 to study with acclaimed saxophonist Branford Marsalis.

Emily is the saxophone instructor at East Tennessee State University and Mitchell Community College in Statesville, NC. She recently received her DMA in performance, with minor areas in jazz and music education from UNCG.

Dr. Michael Long, Trombone Instructor, earned his BM from UNC Chapel Hill, his MM from the University of New Mexico, and his DMA from UNCG. Dr. Long is currently on faculty at the North Carolina A&T State University. He has performed with the New Mexico Symphony and has performed with numerous chamber ensembles, pit orchestras, symphony orchestras, and jazz ensembles. His playing is also feature on "Alive!," the debut solo album of jazz pianist Antonio Truyols.

Ms. Megan Morris, Conductor of the Week Two Bach Junior Orchestra, is a violinist and teacher from Charlotte, NC. She received a BM of Music Education degree from UNCG in 2010 and the MM in Music Education from Florida State University in 2017. Ms. Morris taught middle and high school in Charlotte, NC from 2010-2015. Ms. Morris served as a violin teacher and coach for the UNCG Summer Music Camps from 2007-2016. She also served as a violin coach, private lesson instructor, chamber music coach, and conductor for the FSU String Orchestra Camp in 2016 and 2017. This is Ms. Morris' eleventh year with the UNCG Summer Music Camp.

Mr. Brian Myers, Conductor of the Week One Sousa Senior Band, has been the Director of Bands at Green Hope High School in Cary, NC, since August 2007. Myers completed his undergraduate degree in Music Education and his MMEd from East Carolina University. He completed his Master of Music Education degree from Boston University in September 2007. In November 2011, he became a National Board Certified Teacher in the area of Early Adolescence to Young Adulthood Music.

Dr. Abigail Pack, Horn Instructor, is Professor of Horn at UNCG. Pack earned her BM in Music Education from East Carolina University, the MA in Horn Performance and Pedagogy from the University of Iowa, and the DMA in Performance from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She has held teaching positions at James Madison University, Knox College, Western State College, and in the Gunnison Watershed School District in Gunnison, CO. She currently performs regionally as a member of the Roanoke Symphony Orchestra, Opera Roanoke, Southwest Chamber Orchestra, and with the Wintergreen Summer Music Festival.

Dr. Janet Phillips, Flute Instructor, serves as Assistant Professor of Music and Band Director at Averett University in Danville, Virginia. Dr. Philips completed her DMA degree at UNCG in 2015. Prior to her graduate work, she was a charter member of the Danville Symphony Orchestra and was Principal Flutist for twenty years. She earned her Bachelor of Music degree in Music Therapy at Florida State University and Master of Music degree in Flute Performance from UNCG.

Dr. Frank Pittman, Piano Instructor, is a nationally certified teacher of music and is the founder, artistic, and executive director of the Piano Academy of North Carolina. He has served on the faculties of the Governor’s School of NC, UNC Chapel Hill, Meredith College, Campbell University, the Actors Center in Philadelphia, and Durham School of the Arts. As an active pianist, Dr. Pittman regularly adjudicates for local and regional competitions and is a recurring examiner for the Hong Kong Schools Music Competition. He is past president of the NC Music Teachers Association and earned his DMA in Piano Performance from UNCG.

Dr. Julia Reeves, Violin Instructor, is a violinist and string educator currently based in central North Carolina. Se holds a BM from Ohio University, the MM from the University of Minnesota, and a DMA and Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Music Education from UNCG. At UNCG, Julia served as a Program Coordinator for the Peck Alumni Leadership Program. Prior to moving to NC, Julia was on the Violin faculty at the MacPhail Center for Music, a large non-profit music school in Minneapolis. Julia's teaching appointments include violin and viola instructor at Campbell University, the Music Academy of North Carolina, the St. Paul Academy in St. Paul, MN, and the Athens Community Music School in Athens, Ohio. Julia currently performs with the Greensboro Symphony.

Ms. Donna Rendely-Peeler, Conductor of the Week One Piano Camp Chorus, holds the MM in Choral Conducting and BM in Choral Education degrees from UNCG. She currently teaches choir and music theory at Glenely Country School in Elliott City, MD. Previously she taught middle school chorus in Greensboro, NC, while also serving as Cantor at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church. She is an active singer, pianist, and conductor, and is thrilled to be working her 10th year at UNCG Summer Music Camp.

Dr. Cody Rex, Double Bass Instructor, is a double bassist and educator based in Central NC. He is Instructor of Double Bass at Duke University String School and at High Point University. Previous teaching appointments include UNCG, Methodist University, and the Music Academy of North Carolina. Dr. Rex is a member of the Greensboro Symphony Orchestra and performs regularly with the NC Symphony Orchestra, NC Opera, Charleston Symphony, and the Winston Salem Symphony. Dr. Rex holds a BM in Education from Boiling Springs State University, a MM from the University of Michigan, and a DMA from UNCG.

Dr. Daniel Rice, Trombone Instructor, holds the DMA Degree from UNCG, the Master of Music degree in trombone performance from Florida State University, and the Bachelor of Music in trombone performance from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Dr. Rice has served on the faculty of Radford University, North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, Cape Fear

Community College and currently serves as Instructor of Trombone in the UNCG School of Music Dr. Rice has performed with various ensembles throughout the region and country, including the North Carolina Symphony, Greensboro Symphony, 11˚ Trombone Quartet, Market Street Brass, and Palmetto Posaunen.

Dr. Edwin Riley, Piano Instuctor, is a nationally known recitialist, soloist, and clinician. He received his BM and MS degrees from the Juilliard School and his DMA from the University of Iowa. Dr. Riley taught clarinet at UNCG from 2000-2009. Since 2009 he has taught clarinet at UNC Chapel Hill. Dr. Riley plays principal assistant and 2nd clarinet in the Greensboro Symphony and has played regularly as a substitute for the NC Symphony. Most recently he played principal clarinet for the Carolina Ballet. Dr. Riley plays Selmer (Paris) clarinets and has been a national clinician with the Selmer company since 1979. He has performed clinics at Midwest in Chicago, MENC, Texas Bandmasters Association, and over 30 state and regional state conventions.

Mrs. Sarah Russell, Conductor of the Week Two Senior Orchestra, is the Strings Director and AP Music Theory instructor at Providence Day School in Charlotte, NC. Under her direction, the PDS Strings program has grown from 37 students to nearly 100 in just three years, She is in demand as a clinician and conductor across the Southeast US and is thrilled to return to UNCG for her fifth summer.

Dr. John Salmon, Piano Instructor, has been a faculty member at UNCG since 1989. He has distinguished himself on four continents as both a classical and jazz artist. He has been at the forefront of performing new works by celebrated composers such as Dave Brubeck, Nikolai Kapustin, and Lalo Schifrin. He holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Texas at Austin, the Master of Music degree from The Juilliard School, the Solistendiplom from the Hochschule fur Musik in Freiburg, Germany, and the Bachelor of Music and Bachelor of Arts (philosophy) degrees from Texas Christian University.

Mrs. Donna Sanders, Piano Instructor, received her BM with honors from Greensboro College and was awarded the Luella Pugh Knott Music Award for the outstanding senior music student. She attended UNC-Chapel Hill where she studied with Marvin Blickenstaff. A member of NCMTA since 1975 and SCMTA since 2003, she is nationally certified by MTNA as a National Guild Auditions Judge. An independent piano teacher in Myrtle Beach, SC, Mrs. Sanders was named 2016-2017 SCMTA Music Teacher of the Year.

Mr. Michael T. Sanders, Conductor of the Week One Green Beginner Band, is originally from Pineville, NC. Mr. Sanders earned a Bachelor of Music Education from UNCG and is a fifteen year veteran counselor at UNCG Summer Music Camp. He previously taught band at Lexington Middle School (NC), Durham School of the Arts, and Northwest School of the Arts. He currently teaches instrumental music grades 2-5 at Winterfield Elementary School in Charlotte, NC. This is his ninth year at Winterfield Elementary and fifteenth year in public school education. Additionally, he is a teaching artist for the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra’s Project Harmony, a collaboration between the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra and Community School of the Arts. Now in its second

year, he is Co-Founder of the Greater Charlotte Summer Arts Camp. He is a member of NCBA, NCMEA, NAfME, and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia.

Mr. Sean Smith, Conductor of the Week One Sousa Senior Band, is in his fifth year as the Director of Bands at AC Reynolds High School in Asheville, NC. Smith is a native of Hendersonville, NC, and was a graduate of West Henderson High School. He earned his BM in Education degree from Mars Hill College in 1997 and began his teaching career at JF Webb High School in Oxford, NC, where he taught for two years. Mr. Smith was then Director of Bands at East Henderson High School in East Flat Rock, NC, for 12 years. In 2002, Mr. Smith received his MM in Education degree with a concentration in conducting from Appalachian State University.

Dr. Paul Stewart, Piano Instructor, is professor emeritus at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. He holds music degrees form Indiana University, University of Illinois, and Florida State University. As a 46-year member of the Music Teachers National Association, he has served in elected and appointed positions at the State, Division, and National Level, culminating in his election as National MTNA President, 2005-2007. Dr. Stewart has a long-time interest in Piano Ragtime music. He has presented Ragtime workshops, lecture recitals, and performances throughout the US and Europe.

Dr. Mandy Swaim, Flute Instructor, is an avid performer and teacher of flute currently residing in Tampa, Florida. She is an adjunct instructor of flute at Hillsborough Community College in Ybor City, Florida and maintains a private flute studio with students of all ages. Dr. Swaim completed a Doctor of Musical Arts Degree at UNCG where her studies focused on flute performance with an emphasis in early flute pedagogy. She holds both a MM degree and a Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in music education from UNCG, and a BS degree in music education from University of South Florida.

Dr. Thomas Swenson, Piano Instructor, teaches at the UNC School of the Arts and was recently the Chair of the Piano Department at the Music Academy of North Carolina. He served as the President of the North Carolina Music Teachers Association, is a national leader in the field of piano pedagogy, and is featured in several music journals, educational websites, and books. Dr. Swenson holds degrees from Minnesota State University, UNCG, and the University of Oklahoma.

Ms. Renee Todd, Conductor of the Week Two Red Junior Band, holds a BS in Music Education from the University of Maryland. She is currently in her twenty-fifth year of teaching and this is her sixth year as Director of Bands at Ligon GT Magnet School. She performs with the Triangle Brass Band and the Resurrection Lutheran Brass, and has performed with the Triangle Wind Ensemble, North Carolina Wind Orchestra, Raleigh Symphony Orchestra, and the Tar River Symphonic Band.

Dr. Daniel Seyfried, Piano Instructor, completed his DMA at UNCG in 2017 and is currently on the piano faculty at St. Mary's Music Academy in High Point, NC. Daniel's students consistently earn top honors in regional and statewide piano competitions and festivals. As a performer, Daniel has given recitals across the United States and recently gave his first international performance in Taipei, Taiwan.

Mrs. Amanda Turner, Conductor of the Week Two Haydn Junior Orchestra, holds a BM and MM in Music Education from UNCG. In 2008, she was awarded National Board Certification. Amanda teaches orchestra and music theory at East Mecklenburg and Ardrey Kell High Schools, and is the conductor of the Union Symphony Youth Orchestra Prelude Strings. Mrs. Turner has been a free-lance violinist in the Charlotte area and currently performs as a section violinist with the Union Symphony Orchestra. This is her 21st year at UNCG Summer Music Camp.

Mrs. Heather Turner, Conductor of the Week Two Green Beginner Band, received her BM in Education from UNCG in 1998 and her MM from UNCG in 2007. She taught band for eight years at Braxton Craven School in Trinity, NC. In 2003, she was awarded National Board Certification and earned her renewal certificate in 2012. She currently teaches elementary music and high school orchestra in Rock Hill, SC. She also assists the band program at South Pointe High School. She has been an employee of the UNCG Summer Music camp since 1996 and conducted her first Beginner Band in 2006. She lives in Rock Hill with her husband, daughter, and three dogs.

Ms. Tracy Viator, Violin Instuctor, recently earned her BM in violin performance, summa cum laude, at the University Colorado Boulder under the tutelage of Dr. Linda Bahn and Harrumi Rhodes. While residing in Boulder, Tracy honed her expertise in violin pedagogy, completing Suzuki Teacher Training certification and building a private violin studio at the Colorado School of Music. Post-graduation, Tracy moved to North Carolina to pursue her MM with Marjorie Bagley at UNCG.

Mr. Joel Wenger, Conductor of the Week One Junior Orchestra, holds a BM in Music Education and a BM in Cello Performance from Appalachian State University. While studying there, he won the Concerto-Aria Competition in 2001 and served as a section cellist in the Asheville Symphony from 2001-2003. Upon graduation,

Mr. Wenger attended UNCG where he earned a MM cello performance in 2005. Mr. Wenger currently teaches at Southwest Guilford High School and Middle School in High Point, North Carolina. He resides in Greensboro with his wife, Erin, and sons, Wesley and William.

Mrs. Jayme Updike Wood, Conductor of the Week One Junior Mixed Chorus, is a native of the North Carolina foothills. She attended UNCG where she received a BM in Choral Music Education in 2005. Mrs. Wood taught for ten years as a music educator in North Carolina and enjoys conducting All-County and All-District Choral clinics around the southeast. While living in NC, she was a member of the Bel Canto Company, a professional choral group of the Triad area under the direction of Dr. Welborn Young. She and her husband, David, currently live in South Carolina.

Mr. Rodney K. Workman, Conductor of the Week Two Blue Junior Band, is the Director of Bands at Central Davidson High School in Lexington, NC. He received degrees in Music Performance and Music Education from Appalachian State University. For the past 11 years he has taught band at Central Davidson Middle and High School. In addition to his school work he has served on staff of Cannon Music Camp, Mars Hill University Summer Music Camp. Mr. Workman is active in the North Carolina Bandmasters Association and currently serves as the President.

Mr. David Wortman, Conductor of the Week One Blue Junior Band, earned a Bachelor of Music in Education, Cum Laude, from Appalachian State University, as well as a Master of Music in Music Education from UNCG. He earned National Board Certification in 2010. Mr. Wortman is Band Director at Northview Middle School in Hickory. As a clinician and adjudicator, Mr. Wortman has been the conductor of numerous honor bands and university summer camp bands. He is the Past-Chair of the NCMEA Jazz Section. He was voted Catawba County Band Director of the Year in 2014 and the Wilmer Jenkins Teacher of the Year for Northview MS in 2012. He is a member of the American School Band Directors Association.

Dr. Justin Worley, Tuba Instructor, originally from Atlanta, GA, completed the DMA degree in tuba performance from UNCG. At UNCG, he serves as the Instructor of Tuba, and Director of Athletic Bands. Justin has earned a BM from Columbus State University and a MM from Boston University. He is a member of the North Carolina Brass Band and can be heard on their debut CD, First in Flight. Justin performed as a soloist with the UNCG Symphony Orchestra. While at Boston University, Justin was the Assistant Conductor of the All-Campus Concert Band. He has also performed with the Alabama Symphony, The LaGrange Symphony, The Boston Civic Symphony, and the Wellesley Symphony.

Ms. Akiko Yamazaki, Piano Instructor, has performed as a solo and chamber musician across the US, Japan, China, and Italy. Most recently, she performed at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall. Akiko has an interest in contemporary works and women composers and enjoys performing innovative programs. Akiko is currently a doctoral candidate at UNCG, studying piano with John Salmon, and harpsichord and fortepiano with Andrew Willis. She holds a MM from Northwestern University and BM with highest distinction from the UNC-Chapel Hill. Her primary teachers include James Gilles and Mayron Tsong.

Mrs. Susan Young, Piano Camp Chorus Accompanist, is currently on the faculties of Greensboro College and High Point University, where she is an adjunct professor of piano and staff accompanist. She also serves as music director and organist at College Place UMC. In her spare time, Susan accompanies many local middle and high school choruses. She has performed with the Weaver Academy at Carnegie Hall and Festival Disney. She holds degrees in Music Education from Appalachian State and Piano Performance (Accompanying) from UNCG.

Dr. Welborn Young, Conductor of the Week Two Senior Mixed Chorus, is Director of Choral Activities and Professor of Music at UNCG. He directs the University Chamber Singers and teaches classes in conducting and choral repertoire. Dr. Young is director of the Bel Canto Company, which has been featured numerous times on the NPR program Performance Today. He has been a featured festival conductor in The Netherlands, Great Britain, and at Carnegie Hall. He has prepared and conducted the Nashville Symphony Chorus and appeared as guest conductor with the Nashville Opera Association. He holds the DMA from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a Masters Degree from Middle Tennessee State University.

Mr. Miguel Zaparolli, Cello Instructor, has performed and taught in Europe, South and North America. Mr. Zaparolli taught cello at the Guarda Music Conservatory, Seia Music Conservator, Fundao Music and Dance Academy, Pacos de Brandao Music Academy in Portugal and Guri Music Project in Brazil. He has appeared on RDP Radio and TVI Television in Portugal, Globo and Record Television in Brazil, and can be heard on the Atracao Record Label. Mr. Miguel Zaparolli is pursuing a Doctor of Music Arts in Cello Performance at UNCG.

Ms. Yophi Bost is a rising junior at UNCG majoring in Choral Music Education and minoring in Music Theater. She is heavily involved music educational leadership and currently sits on the collegiate Music Educator Board for NC. This is her first year on staff with the UNCG Summer Music Camp.

Ms. Holly Boucher is from Taunten, MA. She is currently pursuing a Music Education degree at UNCG. Holly has participated in the UNCG Symphonic Band, Pep Band, Wind Ensemble, and Flute Choir. She is excited to work her second year at the UNCG Summer Music Camp!

Ms. Ashley Brewer is from Garner, NC. She plays clarinet and bass clarinet at UNCG. Ms. Brewer is pursuing degrees in anthropology and music. This will be her first year working for the UNCG SUmmer Music Camp.

Ms. Rachael Bumsted, a native of Northern Virginia, graduated from UNCG in 2014 with her BM in Music Education. She has been teaching at Glen Arden Elementary School in Asheville, NC for four years. This is her fifth year as a music camp counselor.

Ms. Alisha Cardwell is currently the Director of Bands at Riverside High School in Williamston, NC. Alisha received her bachelor of Music Education from UNCG in 2017. This is her second year as a camp staff member.

Ms. Elizabeth Church from Lenoir NC, is a Music Education and Performance major at UNCG. She has been a member of the Wind Ensemble, Symphony Orchestra, Casella Sinfonetta, and Flute Choir. This is her first year working for the UNCG Summer Music Camp.

Ms. Desirée D. Corbett, from Gibsonville, NC, graduated from UNCG with a BA in Music. After completing her MLIS in December, Ms. Corbett began working as the Media Specialist at Smith High School in Greensboro. This is her fifteenth year as a counselor.

Mr. David Covert is a librarian and woodwind musician around the Greensboro area. He is thrilled to be back at the UNCG Summer Music Camp for his 8th year.

Mr. Zac Covington is a Jazz Performance major at UNCG. His primary instrument is percussion, This is his first year on staff at the UNCG Summer Music Camp.

Mr. Tucker Daniel is a Music Education and Spanish double major at UNCG. His primary instrument is alto saxophone. This is Mr. Daniel's second year working for UNCG Summer Music Camp.

Ms. Taylor Davis, from High Point, is currently pursuing a BM in Music Education at UNCG. She has performed with the Symphonic Band and many chamber groups at UNCG. Ms. Davis is also a former vice-president of Mu Phi Epsilon.

Ms. Jennifer Dewey is a recent graduate from UNCG with a BM degree in Music Education. Her primary instrument is clarinet and also plays flute and saxophone. Ms. Dewey hopes to teach both band and orchestra.

Ms. Sarah Dumont is a third year Music Therapy and Music Education major at ECU. Ms. Dumont is a percussion instructor of Wakefield High School. This is her first year working for the UNCG Summer Music Camp.

Mr. Cristian J. Albee recently received the MM in Choral Conducting from UNCG. In May, he served as a conductor for the UNCG Chorale Tour of Czech Republic and Austria. Mr. Albee is the Director of Music at Moriah United Methodist Church.

Mr. Alex AsKew received his degree in Music Education from UNCG. Having previously served as Assistant Director of Bands at Cutherbertson High School, he now serves as Director of Bands at East Forsyth High School.

Mr. James Bailey received his degree in Music Education from UNCG in 2014 and is current graduate student at the University of Florida pursuing a MM in Music Education. He currently teaches at South View Middle School and Cashwell, Collier, Sherwood Park, and Baldwin Elementary Schools.

Mr. Zach Baker is a junior Music Education major at UNCG studying percussion. Zach has marched snare drum in the Blue and Gold Machine from NC A&T State University. He currently serves as the percussion instructor at Grimsely High School.

Ms. Taylor Barlow is pursuing a BM in Clarinet Performance and a BA in Arts Administration. She plays with the UNCG Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band. Taylor is a music librarian, a student ambassador for the CVPA, and a member of Mu Phi Epsilon.

Mr. Alexis Batista-Rios is a clarinetist and is currently working toward his BM in Music Education at UNCG. He serves as the corresponding secretary for the Alpha Xi chapter of Mu Phi Epsilon. He has also worked as a Resident Advisor for Grogan Residence Hall.

Mr. Andrew Beach is an instrumental Music Education major and philosophy minor at UNCG. He studies double bass and has held positions in the University Symphony Orchestra, University Opera, Gate City Camerata, and Wind Ensemble. He also has served as the principal bass for the Fayetteville Symphony Orchestra.

Mr. Dave Beitzel graduated in December of 2016 with his Bachelor of Music degree performance with a concentration in trombone and is Principal Trombonist for the Raleigh and Durham Symphony Orchestras. This is his 7th year with the UNCG Summer Music Camp.

Mr. Kendall Bertaux is from Lexington, NC and a rising senior pursuing a BM in Music Education. Kendall is a bassoon student of Dr. Michael Burns. This is his first summer working for the UNCG Summer Music Camp.

Ms. Victoria Blalock is a junior majoring in Music Education and flute performance at UNCG. She has performed with the University Band, Symphonic Band, Flute Ensemble, and UNCG’s Band of Sparta. Victoria is in Sigma Alpha Iota where she serves as Chapter President.

Mr. Ian Blegen, a North Carolina native and Jack Britt High School graduate, is a junior horn performance major at UNCG. This is his first year as a music camp counselor.

Mr. Jack Fanning is a bassoonist who earned his BM in performance from Sacramento State University and is currently earning his MM in bassoon performance at UNCG. His underlying love for rock and metal music has bled into the classical discipline for bassoon.

Ms. Katie Ferrell is a rising senior at UNCG pursuing a Bachelor of Music Education degree. She studies double bass with Prof. Craig Brown. This is her first year working at the UNCG Summer Music Camp.

Mrs. Molly Follweiler, from Madison, NC, teaches elementary music and private lessons in Henry County, VA. She earned her BM in Music Education from UNCG in 2006 and her National Board Certification in 2013. This is her fifteenth year with Summer Music Camp.

Mr. Drew Forsyth is currently a junior at UNCG pursuing a degree in Music Education. He currently studies with Dr. Abigail Pack and is thrilled to be a part of this year's SMC.

Mr. Matthew Franks is a 2002 graduate of West Chester University (PA) with a BS in Education. A 14-year veteran educator, is in his third year teaching at Gray's Creek Middle School in Hope Mills. Mr. Franks also serves as an Assistant Band DIrector for South View High School.

Ms. Alisha Garner-McGraw is currently pursuing a degree in Choral Music Education at UNCG. She is a Student Ambassador for the CVPA and also works at Alamance Presbyterian Church as a resident artist.

Mr. Lucas Gianini is a clarinetist in Charlotte, NC where he teaches and performs with the Carolinas Wind Orchestra. He graduated with a BM in Education and Performance from UNCG and a MM in Performance from Bowling Green State University.

Mr. Nathaniel Goldsmith graduated from UNCG in 2015 and is currently pursuing a Masters degree in performance at the UNC School of the Arts. This is his fifth year working for Summer Music Camp.

Mr. Angel Gonzalez, a native of New Jersey, is a senior at UNCG. While here he has performed in Jazz Ensemble, Symphonic Band, Trumpet Ensemble, and the Pep Band. He is also a freelance jazz vocalist and alumnus of the UNCG Spartones.

Ms. Emily Gordon is a senior at UNCG pursuing degrees in Music Education, Trumpet Performance, and Arts Administration. She is a Student Ambassador for the CVPA and is excited to return for her second year at the UNCG Summer Music Camp.

Mr. Nygel Harris is a current junior Music Education student at UNCG studying clarinet. He performs regularly with the Symphonic Band, is the current Treasurer of NAFMEC, and President of Mu Phi Epsilon.

Ms. Mallory Hayes is a recent graduate of UNCG with her MM in Performance and holds her BM in Performance from Converse College. She currently performs with the Winston-Salem Symphony and was Principal Second Violin of the Spartanburg Philharmonic from 2014-2016.

Mr. David Haynes, from Winston-Salem, is a 2011 graduate of UNCG with a BM in Music Education. As a saxophonist, Mr. Haynes performed with the UNCG Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, and Jazz Band. He is currently the Director of Bands at Ledford Middle School.

Mrs. Sarah Haynes is currently the choral director at Wesleyan Christian Academy in High Point, where she teaches chorus and theatre. She graduated from UNCG in 2011 with a degree in Music Education.

Mr. Jacob Hinson earned his BM in Music Education from UNCG in 2016. He is an active composer, arranger, and orchestrator. Jacob will be pursuing a MM in composition from UNCSA in the fall.

Ms. Sydney Horner is a sophomore flute performance major at UNCG. In her time at UNCG she has been a member of the Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, and the UNCG Flute Choir.

Ms. Sara Horton earned a BA in bassoon performance at UNCG with a psychology minor in 2016. She is pursuing a MM in Music Therapy at Colorado State University. This is her fifth year working at Summer Music Camp.

Ms. Sharneisha Joyner is a senior Music Composition Major at UNCG. The main focus of her writing is orchestration of large ensembles. She is one of the 2017-2018 recipients of the UNCG Lloyd Honors College Artist in Residence Award.

Ms. Michaela Kelly is a recent graduate of UNCG with a Bachelors degree in Music Education and a minor in Psychology with honors. She is a founding private voice teacher of the Community Arts Collaborative at UNCG.

Ms. Cassandra Kossmann is from Wilson, NC and is pursuing a MM degree in Clarinet Performance at UNCG. She holds a degree in Music Education from ECU. This is her first year working for UNCG Summer Music Camp.

Ms. Emily Krestar is a junior Music Education major at UNCG. Her primary instrument of study is flute and her secondary instrument is violin. She is thrilled for her first year with SMC!

Mr. Christopher LaVignette is the current music director and SIT Chair at W.A. Pattillo Middle School where he has been teaching for three years. He currently teaches both chorus and band. This will be his third year as a UNCG Summer Music Camp employee.

Dr. Steven Landis is an adjunct instructor of music theory, aural skills, and computer music at UNCG. Steve is also the bassist for the Greensboro new music group COLLAPSS and teaches bass at the Music Academy of North Carolina. Steve earned a DMA in composition from The University of Missouri-Kansas City Conservatory.

Mr. Eric Langer is a 2014 graduate of UNCG with a BM in Choral Music Education. He currently teaches at Starmount Middle School in Yadkin County. He is currently a member of Greensboro’s Bel Canto Company. This is his sixth year on the Summer Music Camp Staff.

Mr. Ryan Lennon is a rising senior at UNCG where he is pursuing a degree in Music Performance on trumpet. He has performed with the Wind Ensemble and University Opera Orchestra. This is his first year at the UNCG Summer Music Camp.

Ms. Kenley Mabe is a 2017 graduate of UNCG with BM in Music Education. Her primary instrument is trombone. She currently teaches private lessons and performs professionally and is very excited to be back for her second year as a camp counselor at SMC.

Ms. Jessica MacNair is currently the orchestra teacher at C.C. Griffin Middle School in Concord, NC. She received her BM in Music Education from UNCG. This is her sixth year being a counselor at SMC.

Ms. Miranda Mahanes is a 2017 graduate of Appalachian State University with a BM in Music Education. She is the Orchestra Director at Jay M. Robinson and Carmel Middle Schools in Charlotte, NC. This is her first year as counselor at the UNCG Summer Music Camp.

Mr. Myron Massey is a graduate of UNC Chapel Hill with a BM and MAT. During his time at UNC, he performed with the Marching Band, Wind Ensemble, Symphony Orchestra, Men's Glee Club, and Percussion Ensemble. This is his seventh year with SMC.

Mr. Michael Mattocks is a senior at UNCG currently pursuing a BM in Music Education with a concentration in trombone. He has performed with the University Band, Symphonic Band, Wind Ensemble, Symphony Orchestra, Sinfonia, and Jazz Ensemble.

Ms. Solange Maughn is a sophomore music student at UNCG. She is currently pursuing a degree in Music Education with a concentration in violin. She graduated from Ross Classical High School in Fayetteville, NC, and hopes to someday teach at the university setting.

Ms. Kayla Meek is a senior at UNCG in Instrumental Music Education and will be student teaching in the Fall. She has taught third grade violin at Peck Elementary and participated on a Culturally Responsive Teaching panel at ASTA National Conference.

Mr. Colton Morris recently received his Master of Music in Peformance from the University of Tennessee and holds a BM in Music Education from Tennessee Tech University. He is an active percussionist, educator, and clinician.

Ms. Nicoletta Moss, from Richmond, VA, is a recent graduate of James Madison University with a BM in Music Education. She is excited to begin at UNCG in the fall pursuing a MM degree in orchestral conducting.

Ms. Rebecca Mulligan is a recent graduate of UNCG with a degree in Music Education. Her primary instrument is the clarinet and she has a passion for conducting.

Mr. José Muñiz graduated from UNCG with a BM in Music Education. His primary instrument is viola but he enjoys playing violin, cello, and bass. This will be his fourth year on staff at Summer Music Camp.

Ms. Emily Myers, a senior at Averett University, is pursuing a degree in Piano Performance. She is an active accompanist and a member of Averett's choir. Emily is delighted to be back at Summer Music Camp for her second year.

Ms. Janine Neprud is a recent graduate of UNCG with BM in Music Education. She will be attending UMass Amherst in the fall to start working on her MM Flute Performance degree. This marks her third year of camp which is one of her favorite parts of the summer.

Mr. Page Newsome is the band director at East Wake High School in Wendell, NC. This coming school year will be his seventh year teaching overall and third year at East Wake. This summer marks the seventh year he has worked at UNCG Summer Music Camp.

Mr. Brad Olson, a native of Wilmington, is currently attending UNCG for his undergraduate degree in Vocal Performance (BM) with an organ secondary. He is currently a member of the Bel Canto Company under the direction of Dr. Welborn Young.

Ms. Carolina Perez, a native of Cary, graduated from UNCG in 2012 with a BM in Music Education and will return this fall to pursue a MM in Conducting. This is her tenth year with the Summer Music Camp Staff.

Mr. Eric Pedrojew, is currently the chorus and orchestra director at Overhills Middle School in Harnett County. He graduated from UNC-Pembroke with a Bachelor of Music Education degree in 2014. This is his fifth year working at the UNCG Summer Music Camp.

Mrs. Kellie Pedrojew is a twenty-year veteran at UNCG Summer Music Camp. She is currently the band director at Overhills Middle School. She also performs with the Fayettville Symphonic Band in Fayetteville, NC.

Mr. David Phillips is a freelance orchestral and chamber musician in venues in the Eastern United States. He is Principal Violinist with the Williamsport Symphony (PA) and The Pennsylvania Chamber Orchestra, and various other orchestras. He holds a MM degree from Penn State University and is currently pursuing a DMA from UNCG.

Ms. Kathryn Porter is a choral Music Education student at UNCG. After she graduates she intends to teach middle school or high school chorus. She enjoys reading, traveling, and hiking in her spare time.

Mr. Phil Sandoval is a rising senior Music Education student at UNCG. His primary instrument is Tuba which he studies under Dr. Justin Worley. This is his first year working for the UNCG Summer Music Camp and he is very excited to join the camp this summer.

Sarah Schachner, from Charlotte, is pursuing a degree in Music Education with a focus in percussion at UNCG. This summer is her fourth year working for the UNCG Summer Music Camp.

Ms. Katherine Serbinowski, a rising junior at UNCG, is majoring in clarinet performance. Originally from Cleveland, OH, Kate had the opportunity to perform with the Cleveland Orchestra and Cleveland POPS.

Mr. Kerry Shimfessel from Raleigh, currently serves as the Director of Bands at Bunn High School in Bunn, NC. Mr. Shimfessel holds a BM in music education and MMed degree from UNCG. This is Kerry's eighth year as a counselor at SMC.

Mr. Nicholas Shoaf is currently pursuing a BM in Choral Music Education and a BA in Arts Administration at UNCG. During his time in Greensboro, Nicholas has performed in Amahl and the Night Visitors, the University Chorale, and several other organizations.

Ms. Brianna Souza is a flute and piccolo instructor and performer based in Greensboro, NC. Brianna earned her BM in Music Education and Flute Performance from Sacramento State and is currently earning her MM in flute performance at UNCG.

Mr. Elliott Stanger is in his third year of doctoral study at UNCG. He is the horn instructor at Mitchell Community College and principal horn in the Durham Symphony Orchestra. This is Elliott's second year at the UNCG Summer Music Camp.

Mr. Tyler Stephenson, a native of Pembroke Pines, FL, is currently pursuing a BM in Music from UNCG. Tyler has performed with the Symphonic Band, Wind Ensemble, Symphony Orchestra, Casella Sinfonietta, Brass Quintet, and Trumpet Ensemble.

Ms. Melissa Sultan is a recent graduate of UNCG with her Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance. She currently resides in Raleigh, and is excited to return for her third year as a SMC counselor.

Mr. Elliott Thomas is a recent graduate of UNCG with a degree in Oboe performance. While at UNCG, Elliott performed with the Symphony Orchestra, Wind Ensemble, and Casella Sinfonietta. Elliott frequently performs as a freelance musician throughout the Triad region.

Mr. Michael Thomas is currently the Assistant Director of Bands for Mecklenburg Area Catholic Schools. He teaches 8th Grade Band at Holy Trinity Catholic MS and Percussion Ensemble at Charlotte Catholic HS. He graduated from UNCG with a master’s degree in music education in 2010.

Ms. Clarice Weiseman is currently pursuing her MM in Vocal Pedagogy at UNCG. She holds a BM in voice performance from Eastern Michigan University and has

performed with the UNCG Opera Theatre, EMU Opera Theatre, Pittsfield Opera Theatre, and Arbor Opera.

Ms. Marisha Williams is currently a junior studying Music Education at UNCG. She is originally from Danville, VA. Her primary instrument is the viola, but she also plays the cello and piano. She is looking forward to working at Summer Music Camp.

Ms. Samantha Williams is a percussionist and an aspiring music educator currently studying at UNCG. She has taught at 2112 Percussion’s School of Rock, as well as Rolesville High School’s band camp. She is currently earning her degree in Music Education.

Mr. Jonathan Wiseman graduated from UNCG in 2014 with a degree in Trumpet Performance and received a PBC in Jazz Studies in 2015. For the past three years Jonathan has been the music instructor at The Enrichment Center, where he taught community college courses to adults with disabilities.

Mr. Isaac Brewer, from Southern Pines, NC, is a rising senior pursuing a BM in Music Education. He is a trombone student under the instruction of Dr. Randy Kohlenberg. This is his third summer working for the UNCG Summer Music Camp.

Ms. Anamarie Diaz, originally from Arlington, VA, is currently pursuing the Master of Music in Performance degree at UNCG where she studies with Dr. Erika Boysen. She is a 2015 graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) where she received the Bachelors of Arts in Music. She is a two-time winner of the National Flute Association (NFA) collegiate flute choir competition, performing at the NFA Convention in Chicago and Washington D.C. Anamarie has performed at multiple music festivals including Madeline Island Summer Music Camp, Aria International Summer Academy Advanced Music Studies, and New England Music Camp.

Mrs. Sonya Ferguson, Head Dorm Chaperone, has been the Band Director at Charles C. Erwin Middle School in Salisbury since 1997. She has worked on the Summer Music Camp staff since 1993. Sonya received her Bachelor of Music Education from UNCG in 1996 and became a National Board Certified Teacher in 2002. She recently completed a Master of Music Education from East Carolina University. She resides in Salisbury with her husband, Chris and their two sons, Thomas and James.

Mr. Greg Gibson, Head Dorm Chaperone, is a 2008 graduate of UNCG with a BM in Music Education. He also holds the MM in Music Education from the University of Georgia. Mr. Gibson is the Director of Bands at Ledford High School in Thomasville. His professional affiliations include NAfMe, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, and Kappa Kappa Psi. This is his eleventh year with the Camp Staff.

Mr. Jared Gilbert is currently a DMA student in trombone performance at UNCG. Mr. Gilbert earned a Master of Music degree in 2017, and graduated, with honors, from Central Michigan University in 2014 with a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education. This is his third summer working at the UNCG Summer Music Camp.

Mr. J. Ben Jones, a native of Gastonia, North Carolina, earned a BME from the University of South Carolina and the MM degree in Wind Conducting from UNCG. Mr. Jones was the Director of Bands at Ashbrook High School in Gastonia for eight years prior to beginning his graduate work. This is his third year working for the UNCG Summer Music Camp.

Ms. Pam Klena, from Maryville, TN, received a BME from Lee University in Cleveland, TN. After her graduation, she served as Director of Bands at Trinity Christian School in Sharspburg, GA. She graduated from Central Michigan University with a MM in Wind Conducting where she served as the conductor of the University Band and Symphonic Band. She is currently pursuing a DMA in conducting at UNCG.

Mr. Brannon Kling is currently a graduate student under Dr. Randy Kohlenberg at UNCG. Mr. Kling earned a Master of Music degree in Trombone Performance and a Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Music Theory in 2017, a Master of Music degree in Euphonium Performance in 2015, a Bachelors degree in Music Performance in 2013. Mr. Kling is happily married and a resident of Greensboro. This is his second summer working at the UNCG Summer Music Camp.

Ms. Trishadee Hall Newlin was once a camper herself, Mrs. Newlin is joyfully returning for her 13th year at camp. She graduated from UNCG in 1996 with a BM in Music Education and has enjoyed teaching and performing in NC, MA, VA, CO, as well as Germany and Albania. She is looking forward to new musical opportunities in Kiew, Ukraine this fall.

Mr. Nathan Phillips is currently a DMA student studying trombone performance under Dr. Randy Kohlenberg at the University of North Carolina Greensboro. Nathan earned a Masters of Music in Trombone Performance from UNCG in 2016, and in 2014 he earned a Bachelor of Science in Music Education from Bob Jones University in Greenville, South Carolina. While at Bob Jones University, Nathan was the winner of the annual Commencement Music Contest, graduated with honors, and worked as part of the staff for the summer music camp program for three summers. This is his fourth summer working for the UNCG Summer Music Camp.

Mr. Jerry Robinson, a native of Fayetteville, NC, currently resides in Columbia SC, where he serves at the Band Director at Columbia HS. Mr. Robinson is a 2003 graduate of UNCG with a BM in Music Education. He later of obtained his master’s in educational leadership from Gardner-Webb University in 2016. He will be entering to the EdD program at Gardner Webb this fall. Mr. Robinson has taught middle and high school bands for 12 years. This is his 14th year as a camp counselor.

Ms. Emily Scotton, from Staley, NC is an alumna of the UNCG School of Music. She is the band director at Southeastern Randolph Middle School where she was recently awarded "Teacher of the Year." Begining in the fall of 2018, she will also serve as the Band Director at Eastern Randolph High Shcool. This is her twenieth year on the staff of SMC.

Mrs. Barbara H. Walston, Head Dorm Chaperone, is a native North Carolinian and currently lives in Raleigh with her husband, Scott and their son, Andrew. She received her Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees from The University of North Carolina at Greensboro and her Master of Arts (magna cum laude) in Biblical Ministries from Baptist Bible College and Seminary (PA). Since 1990, Mrs. Walston has taught in both public and private schools in NC. She currently teached at Friendship Christian School and is a teacher with the Advance to College program at Maranatha Baptist University. Her band students consistently earn excellent and superior ratings and high rankings at NCCSA competitions and CDBA MPA events. She is a frequent workshop leader at NCCSA and SECS teacher conventions. Mrs. Walston is a member of the UNCG Summer Music Camp Staff Hall of Fame and has been with the SMC staff since 1985.
