Dear Eleanor:
Your letter ot April 28, inquiring about the
organiza tion known as t he -National Solidarity ot
Greece", reached me only last week, having been tor-
warded from Washington to Athena by sea mall .
The Embassy has been informed that the "National
Solidarity ot Greece" has recent ly been dissolved by
an order ot the Athena Court ot Firat Instance, It
appears that the Nomarch ot Attica t iled a suit on
Way 1 against this organization, dom&nding the can
celation ot ita charter , maintaining that it had~e-
viated" from the aims set forth in ita charter, namely,
to extend charity to all regardless ot political creed.
Tbe Nomarch'e evidence indicated that the organization
had extended charity exclusively to communist elements
and S)"'llpathizera , that it had lent Jl&terial aid and
Mrs . Franklin D. Roosevelt ,

assistance to communist guerrillas; and that it had
maintained relations or a conspiratorial nature with
the Communist Party. The hearings lasted two days,
the trial concluded on May 2. The Court rendered its
decision on June 1, declaring that the charges had been
established and ordering the revocation of the organiza
tion's charter. Interestingly, immediately after the
Court rendered its !inding, · the local communist news
paper RIZOSPASTIS carried an article proclaiming the
National Solidarity's intention or continuing its "char
itable works" legally or illegally. I! the organization
is still in existence, it has no legal character.

whenever any questions arise upon which I may be in a
position to throw some light.
