Campus Kitchen Mission• The mission of The Campus Kitchens Project is to use service as a tool to:
Strengthen Bodies by using existing resources to meet hunger and nutritional needs in our community;
• Empower Minds by providing leadership and service learning opportunities to students, and educational benefits to adults, seniors, children and families in need; and
• Build Communities by fostering a new generation of community-minded adults through resourceful and mutually beneficial partnerships among students, social service agencies, businesses and schools.
Research shows that students involved with Campus Kitchens:
• Feel better equipped to serve their community• Have a deeper understanding of their community’s needs• Have more knowledge about food waste and hunger• Believe their experience has made a difference in their
community• Have personally grown because of their experience• Will continue to serve their community after graduation
How does the University benefit?
• Enhanced student commitment to service through on campus engagement opportunities —a proven component of a strong educational experience for students.
• Proven ability to bridge the gap between the university and surrounding community.

• Student Leadership Team to direct the vision and daily needs of the Campus Kitchen
• Be a conduit to bring together resources to impact the community in a meaningful way.
• An excited passionate movement of willing volunteers to get the work done!
How does Dining Services benefit?
• Increased interaction with students, university and the community. • Volunteer opportunities for employees—proven to increase
employee retention. • On-Campus and National recognition and publicity. • Reduced food waste, saving dining halls thousands of dollars each
year. • Tax benefits through in-kind contributions that can be counted as
1.5 times the cost of the original food purchase.
What does the University provide?
• Sign contracts to accept liability and oversight to ensure the Campus Kitchen is following industry standard safety guidelines.
• Staff advisor to provide consistent support and guidance. • Share the school’s 501(c)3 nonprofit status with the Campus Kitchen
program. • Assistance in navigating university policies related to money, budgeting and
fundraising. • Designated work space (can be shared) and necessary technology/equipment.
What does the University provide?
• Kitchen Skills and Equipment Training on a regular basis for Campus Kitchen volunteers.
• ServSafe training & oversight of annual Campus Kitchen safety audit. • Donated unused food for Campus Kitchen whenever available. • Sufficient storage for Campus Kitchen food/supplies (cooler, freezer and dry) • Campus Kitchen volunteers can access the kitchen space after hours and on
weekends.
