CAN SERRAT is located in El Bruc, at the foot of Montserrat and only 45 km from Barcelona. This center was founded in 1989 by a group of 11 Norwegian artists. It has several spaces / workshops and a beautiful natural environment. With a pleasant path from the house we soon get to the bottom of one of the most spectacular areas around the massif of Montserrat, “Les Agülles “ -Community of artists from all over the world - integrating a Catalan village of 2000 inhabitants, and indeed their daily lives - The farmhouse: an old manor of 1187m², on the ground floor where we find the hall, a kitchen, dining area, bathrooms an old cellar of 260m², which has been conditioned as work space. On the first floor are 10 rooms for single use and double, three studies 36, 24 and 25 square meters. Outside, an area of 9200 m².

THROUGH THIS OPEN CALL

ONE full granted artist is invited for a two-months residency at Can Serrat, including accommodation, workshop spaces, local food supplies [the grant does not include travel costs ]

Can Serrat, is a rustic house close to an old and mysterious moun-tain - there is no topic to answer, although jury expects proposals who take in consideration the place and environment - as well as it is expected from the artist a position regarding contemporary crea-tion .

DOCUMENTATION

TO THE DISPOSITION OF SELECTED ARTISTS :

Studios accessaccess to all studios, including printmaking (after a short initiation) and sound recording (with assistance of Daniel, regarding your knowledges)

Individual monitoring on the projectevery thursday and friday from 2 to 5 team is available to exchange about the project + email communication before during and after residency.

visit to emergent art places in Barcelona and around (one time per month)

Human resources regarding the projectTeam is available to help you connect with specific person or group that can be necessary for your projectinvitation to one local artist/curator/critic/writer/poetto present his work to the artists of Can Serrat (one or two times per month).

Open studios (every 2 months)Visual artists and writers in residency are invited to open their wor-kspace to show to public projects they are working one, the way they want to arrange it. Open studios are thought as a casual and leaving moment of sharing a project that can still process, in a different way, may be, of an exhibition of finished works. This moment is also an opportunity for artist and writer to take distance with their project regarding how to present it and how it is received by visitors.

WHAT THE RESIDENCY EXPECT FROM THE ARTIST :

A regular and serious work during the residency time

Participation to MEETING POINT:A collective but private presentation during the first week of the month (if there at this moment) - 10/15 minutes presentation of few past projects and actual for Can Serrat.

Participation to CRITIC SESSION:One time in the month - presentation of the work in progress at Can Serrat to other artist in residency + team + 2 or 3 guest (professio-nal and nonprofessional of art).
