*CALL TO WORSHIP (responsively)
Give thanks to the Lord, for God is good.
God's steadfast love endures forever. Give thanks to the Lord and call upon God’s name.
Make known God's deeds among the peoples! God blesses us with gifts of love:
with food and clothing, home and family. God blesses us with daily work:
and all we need from day to day. God calls us into relationship,
and forms us into one holy people, We are the Church of Jesus Christ in this place.
Therefore we offer thanks and praise to the Lord our God.
With hearts full of gratitude, let us worship God!
*HYMN #367 “Come Ye Thankful People Come” by George Elvey, 1858
*CONGREGATIONAL PRAYER (unison) Eddie Seamans
Holy and generous God, it is the time of year to gather in the produce of the earth.
And so we give thanks for the gifts of food. It is the time of year when we admire the
bright colors of the season. And so we pause to give thanks for the beauty of the
earth. Forgive us for taking the earth, your gifts, and your love for granted. Remind
us that each dawn, each breath, and each heartbeat is a gift. Grant us an awareness
of your mercy and understanding when we fail to use the blessings you have given
us to bless others. In our time of worship this morning, move within and among us,
awakening us to Your presence, moving our hearts to respond to your grace. Amen
*WORDS OF AFFIRMATION (responsively) (Hebrews 10:22)
The book of Hebrews tells us that we can “come near to God with a sincere heart and a
sure faith, with hearts that have been purified from a guilty conscience and with bodies
washed with clean water.”
Through God’s love in Christ we are made clean and forgiven. Thanks be to God!

PRAYER OF THE PEOPLE (responsively)
Creator God, for daily bread and all who work to bring your harvest home, we bring our
thanks today.
Forgive our ingratitude, we who have so much yet waste what you have given us. For those whose harvest is poor, whose crops have withered,
water tainted, children starving. Help those who bring relief
and bestow on us an uncommon generosity, that all might share from your garden of
health and safety and all might sing your praise.
We pray for those who are hungry and tired, hopeless and wandering, finding no
place to rest. Fearing no one cares. For strong bodies and minds, for opportunities that encourage us to grow and become
more the servants of thanksgiving you call us to be, we give you thanks.
We pray for the sick, and for the isolative who are unwilling to welcome the
stranger into their midst.
Help us, O God, be responsible stewards of your blessings,
people who care for the earth and ail its people. Keep us connected with all humanity,
even though miles and cultures may separate us. May we always respond to your call
with a true spirit of thanksgiving.
Creator God, provider of all, we bring our thanks today.
And we bless each other that the beauty of this world
and the love that created it might be expressed through our lives. Let us
be a blessing to others now and always as we pray the prayer you taught us saying:
(The Lord’s prayer) Amen. CHORAL RESPONSE

Did you know? “Let All Things Now Living” ( hymn #37)
Katherine Kennicott Davis (1892-1980) published this text as an anthem in 1939 under
the pseudonym of John Cowley. She wrote the first verse earlier, perhaps in the 1920s,
to fit the Welsh tune, THE ASH GROVE. She was born in St. Joseph, Missouri.
Following her high school education, she studied at Wellesley College (BA, 1914),
where she won the Billings Prize for Composition. She studied in Paris for an interval
with the famous composition teacher and conductor Nadia Boulanger (1887-
1979). During the 1920s, Katherine Davis taught at two schools in Philadelphia. She
suffered a breakdown in her health and shifted her efforts to composing, resulting in
more than 800 vocal and instrumental compositions, including shorter pieces, operas,
and cantatas. Ms. Davis is best known for her popular Christmas song, “The Little
Drummer Boy.”

CALL FOR CONGREGATIONAL MEETING: A Congregational Meeting will be held at 11:15 am in the sanctuary on November 29th for the sole purpose of electing the new officers for 2016. Please plan to stay for a few minutes after the worship service to
elect your new leaders as Deacons and Elders. Thank you!
Christmas is coming and that means that you once again have the opportunity to help make Christmas bright for needy children and their families. This year the Deacons’ are pleased to increase our number of families served. The Christmas Food and Gift Basket Program will provide gifts for the children of 80 families from Catholic Charities. Those families will also receive food baskets.
The Deacons invite the congregation to participate. You can:
1. BUY GIFTS. LOOK for the GIVING TREE in Bowen Hall after the
worship service TODAY. If you prefer you can provide the money and
Deacons will purchase the gifts for you.
2. Volunteer to help ORGANIZE FOOD BASKETS on Thursday, Dec. 10th.
3. Volunteer to help DELIVER the FOOD BASKETS on Saturday, Dec. 12th.
Catholic Charities requests that gifts be left unwrapped. Selected families will be invited to visit a “gift shop” where they can choose what the children really need.
This year the need is greater than ever. Please plan to come to the GIVING TREE after church TODAY, in Bowen Hall and sign-up to participate in this wonderful program.
