How is Canada Providing Help?

A. By providing education and equipment for the ANA and ANP.

B. By building capacity in government and providing logical support.

What are two goals that Canada has for this part of the mission by 2011?

To have four of the five ANA kandaks (and their brigade headquarters) fully capable of planning, executing and sustaining near-autonomous operations.

To sustain the level of effective strength of the Kandahar-based ANA kandaks (and their brigade headquarters) at 70% or higher.

How is Canada Providing Help?

Food aid, providing food and water to the citizens of Afghan

Non-food aid, providing blankets, clothing etc. to vulnerable individuals.

Providing vaccinations against common diseases.

What are two goals that Canada has for this part of the mission by 2011?

Eradication by vaccination by 2009. Maintain and/or improve the

number of Afghans receiving food assistance in proportion to need.

How is Canada Providing Help? Encouraging Pakistan to talk with

Afghanistan. Equipping the Border Officials with the

means to protect their nation. Providing roads and other essential ways of

Sustainable mechanisms for regular and substantive discussions across a broad array of issues are in place and operating for senior officials.

Priority Five: Supporting Democratic Development: Elections and Strengthened Public Institutions

How is Canada Providing Help? Providing support in voting. Providing some institutions with the

necessary. Try to get other nations to contribute to the

voting process in Afghanistan.

What are two goals that Canada has for this part of the mission by 2011?

All 34 provinces have completed a provincial strategic plan.  Kandahar will have demonstrated progress in implementing its strategic plan against identified timelines.

The difference between planned and actual government spending should be less than or equal to 5%.

The Government of Afghanistan is actively sharing information, at the national, provincial and district levels, regarding its programs, policies and objectives for reconciliation.

Signature Project 1 – Dahla Dam and irrigation system Why is this an important

project for the people of Afghanistan?

It directly addresses one of Canada’s six priorities, this being the goal to help strengthen the Afghan government’s ability to give core services and encourage economic growth.

What is Canada doing to help? repairing the Dahla Dam, by replacing

generators and repairing water valves to improve the control of water flow.

fixing gates to control the flow of water from the Arghandab River into the canal system.

Signature Project 2 – Education Why is this an important

project for the people of Afghanistan?

Addresses another key priority in an incredibly way. This priority being the same as the previous Project’s.

What is Canada doing to help? to build, expand or repair 50 schools in

key districts of Kandahar province to build the capacity of the Ministry of

Education to deliver quality educational services.

Provides humanitarian assistance in helping with healthcare.

What is Canada doing to help? They’re making vaccination points and

people of Afghanistan.
