A court case can have many reasons. Somebody left the company and deleted information the person was working on from online storage but patents some of the work in his new company – how could you know ?

What is Happening?

We are Operating in the Age of Digital Landfills

– Archiving ticked up after 2003 when storage needs were high and when preservation became more important

– Many companies did not properly enable retention and expiration of data on Backups or on Archives

– Deduplication became a necessary band aid- but does not solve the need for a better stratey



What is the Result?

The Junk Yard – Data sources grew and continue to grow exponentially

– Mirrored policies were not placed on Backup Systems and the Archive

– Many have no policies at all

– Keep Everything Forever Mentality – Blessing, Curse (Risk of Discovery) and a Burden (Growing Cost)

• Let`s be clear. The underlying problem needs to be fixed. We can`t keep up stockpiling all data with no Information Governance rules.
