Case Study: Next Gen Application Development

The analysis of data across multiple back-end systems was mainly manual in nature with the overall process taking close to 8 weeks. The goal of engaging HCL was to:

Reduce analysis time to 2 weeks. Use leading edge tools to build a state of the art portal that provides self-service analytics to hospitals.

Business Objective

Use BPM to orchestrate the key processes to move the data across multiple back-end systems. Interleave the application steps with human approvals and data edits.

Develop the data models to capture and compute around 2000 measures that are used by the analysis modules. Use the power of Oracle Business Rules Engine to externalize the processing rules to compute the measures and enable

business analysts to model, test and deploy rules. Use Oracle Coherence as a stable in-memory cache to hold the patient data while the measures are computed and save

the data after completion. Develop analysis reports that allow the hospitals to identify measures that are not performing well and drill down across

multiple dimensions to identify in-efficiencies in the system.

HCL’s Approach

The Client: Is an industry leader in analyzing patient data, applying AI techniques and providing analytics to leading hospitals. Based in Amsterdam, the company has operations in the UK, USA and others. They publish 250,000 articles a year in 2000 journals and their archives contain seven million publications.
