Así se forma 1: Reflexive verbs
Reflexive actions are performed by people to themselves are often expressed by verbs describing daily routine or
personal care activities.
Express reflexive actions in Spanish with the reflexive pronouns me, te, se, nos, os, se (myself,
yourself, himself, etc.) with a conjugated verb (lavar, bañar, levantar, etc.)
Carlos baña a su hermanito. (nonreflexive) Carlos bathes his little brother.
Carlos se baña. (reflexive)Carlos bathes himself.

Placement of reflexive pronouns
It depends on the sentence structure:
with two verbs (an infinitive verb phrase or present participle (-ando/-iendo), you have TWO options: the reflexive pronoun may be placed before the conjugated verb or attached to the infinitive or present participle.
Me tengo que levantar temprano.
or
Tengo que levantarme temprano.
immediately before the conjugated verb. This is always a safe bet! If there is only 1 verb, you have only 1 place.
Me despierto a las seis.

Placement of reflexive pronouns
Note that when the reflexive pronoun is attached to a present participle, we need to add a written accent on the vowel that carries the emphasis.
Linda está divirtiéndose.Estoy bañándome.
The accent will always be on the “a” for –Ar verbsAnd on the “e” for –Er and –Ir verbs.
This will not be on the final exam as the Present Progressive tends to be over-used by native English speakers. It does not correspond to the way we use the “-ing” form in English!
Práctica: La rutina de Alejandra
Describe la rutina de Alejandra por las mañanas según cada dibujo.
Modelo:
Alejandra se despierta a las ocho de la mañana.
1.2.
3. 4. 5.
Frankly, I think this is Camila. So it may say so in your homework.
La rutina diaria
Reflexive and non-reflexive activities.
Reflexive activities:1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 11, 15.
Non-reflexive activities:3, 10, 12, 13, 14, 16

Así se forma 2: Reciprocal constructions
English uses the phrases each other and one another to express reciprocal actions: They love each other/one another. Spanish uses the pronouns nos and se, accompanied by the corresponding verb forms, to express reciprocal or mutual actions.

Linda y Manuel se llaman mucho.

Cultura: Los días festivos

En Latinoamérica y España las festividades son de dos tipos: religiosas y cívicas.

Así se forma 3: The preterit of regular verbs and ser/ ir
The preterit tense is used to talk about actions in the past we view/perceive as complete,
Me levanté a las ocho y desayuné. I got up at eight and had breakfast.
—¿Cuándo volviste? —When did you return?
—Volví a la una. —I returned at one.
or past actions with a specific beginning, an end or both.
Estudié en la biblioteca por dos horas. I studied at the library for two hours.
Comencé a estudiar a las tres. I began to study at three.

We go through the same steps as when we conjugated the present tense but we are adding new endings.
Verbs with spelling changesin the preterit and ser/ir
fui, fuiste, fue, fuimos, fuisteis, fueron
Ser and ir have identical but irregular preterit endings. Since the Preterite is used to express completed actions, it is very difficult to conjugate Ser (Description & Existence) in the Preterite past tense. When you see those conjugations it is usually Ir. I won’t have Ser in the Preterite on the Final Exam.

Leer (to read) and oír (to hear) have spelling changes in
the 3rd person forms (i→y).
leer:
oír:
leí, leíste, leyó, leímos, leísteis, leyeron
oí, oíste, oyó, oímos, oísteis, oyeron
Verbos con cambios ortográficos en el pretérito: i-->y
Leer y oír
otra vez necesitan cambiar la “i”
en “y”
en las terceras personas: leio
leer:
oír:
leí, leíste, leyó, leímos, leyeron
oí, oíste, oyó, oímos, oyeron
Arf! No!
Remember that the “I” is a weak poodle easily taken out by the stronger Alpha dog vowels. When there are 3 vowels in a row and the center vowel is an “i”, it will convert into the German Shepherd Dog “Y”.
