  • Triflex Creative Car ParksOur aim is to offer the total package of waterproofing, surfacing and protection solutionsfor car park refurbishment and new build construction projects. Through a combinationof high technology systems and our extensive range of design opportunities, the car parkenvironment can be totally transformed.

Triflex has been manufacturing waterproofing, surfacing and protection systems for morethan 25 years, and systems specifically for car parks for more than 20 years. Ourexpertise in terms of both refurbishment and new build applications ensures that you canbe confident you have selected the right partner.

What makes a successfulcar park?Whatever the use of the car park, the users are the key and for a car park to be successfultheir demands need to be met. Users expect car parks to be light, bright and clearly laidout in order that they feel personally safe and welcomed, and feel secure in theknowledge that their personal property is being looked after.

Why does it matter?First impressions count.

A light, bright, safe, user friendly car park with attention to colour and design says a lotabout what you think about the users. A car park which is dark and dismal ensures thatif given the choice, potential users will park elsewhere.

The problemsExposed car park decks are often:

Inadequately protected from water ingress andenvironmental damage, for example Chlorides andCarbon Dioxide, leading to long term structuraldamage and damage to property

Surfaced with unsuitable, low technology materials, orthin coat systems which are incapable of providingboth the waterproofing and a durable, aestheticallypleasing surface finish. The consequences of underspecification are system failure after a relatively shortperiod of time

Difficult for drivers and pedestrians to use effectivelydue to a lack of colour and design options

    Difficult to clean and maintain

The Triflex solutionThe BBA approved Triflex PDS (Park Deck System) providesexposed car park decks with exceptional protection fromenvironmental, mechanical and physical damage, whileoffering almost limitless design options.

The heavy duty, thick layer, fully reinforced Triflex PDS hasbeen designed and developed over more than 20 years tofulfil the specific demands of the most demanding exposedparking areas, whether in refurbishment or new buildapplications.

Triflex PDS(Park Deck System)Exposed car park and service decks over occupied premises must provide a high level ofprotection to the structure and property beneath, and a durable, safe, aestheticallypleasing surface finish capable of withstanding long term trafficking.

Triflex has more than 20 years experience in providing long term waterproofing, surfacing and protection solutions for exposed car park and service decks over occupiedpremises whether new build or refurbishment. The exceptional durability of our systemsalso allows areas such as ramps over occupied premises to be comprehensivelyprotected.

Ramps and service decksThe Triflex PDS - Ramp variant provides optimum traction and abrasion resistancecharacteristics, improving safety and ensuring the maximum system durability in thesehigh wear areas.

Triflex also has significant experience in providing waterproofing, surfacing andprotection solutions to service decks and car park decks trafficked by Heavy GoodsVehicles. Based on this experience we are able to offer overlay solutions and specificdesign advice to ensure that all areas can be treated with total confidence.

UNIQUE FULLY REINFORCED MEMBRANE - The system comprises a unique, fullyreinforced membrane with a fully aggregate filled wearing course. The reinforcedmembrane ensures that the System has exceptional resistance to flexural fatigue, and canwithstand the stresses from thermal expansion and contraction, dynamic loading andcracking which occur in exposed car park decks. The System provides exceptionalstructural protection for the main deck and details from the damaging ingress of water,Carbon Dioxide and Chlorides. The membrane is resistant to all common automotivefluids, frost and UV radiation

The seamless application ensures that all details and potential areas of weakness can beincorporated within the same fully reinforced waterproofing and surfacing membrane

DURABILITY - The PDS is a heavy duty, thick layer system with a dry film thickness greaterthan 4mm. With its fully aggregate filled, anti skid wearing course, the PDS is suitable asthe waterproofing and surfacing system for heavily trafficked car park and service deckenvironments (BBA Durability Statement - 20years)

ELASTOMERIC - The Triflex PDS is elastomeric, which when combined with the uniquereinforcement, provides resistance to dynamic cracking and flexural fatigue which cannotbe provided by other systems. All regular and unforeseen movement is comfortablyaccommodated within the system. This makes the system particularly suitable for highmovement and high risk areas such as trafficked decks over occupied premises

COMPATIBILITY - The system can be used to overlay concrete, asphalt, HRA, SMA andsome existing membranes subject to testing, avoiding the disruption and costs associatedwith removal

CURE TIMES - The PDS has low cure times compared to PU and EPOXY materials providingadvantages to the client and contractor. The final finish coat can be trafficked after only 3hours

COLOURS - Our range of finish options and special colours ensure the clients aestheticrequirements can be fulfilled. Dedicated pedestrian walkways and safe zones, togetherwith colour coding can be incorporated from the design stage

JOINTS - The system can be combined with the Triflex projoint system to provide singlesource liability for the total waterproofing and surfacing package

CERTIFIED PROTECTION - The Triflex PDS has full BBA certification, confirming that it hasbeen tested and approved at the highest level

RAMPS - For these areas, the Triflex PDS - Ramp offers optimum abrasion resistance andtraction characteristics through the use of a basalt split aggregate and optional traction strips

CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE - The hard wearing PDS can be easily cleaned andmaintained using conventional methods

    Benefits

NBS (the National Building Specification) is the most authoritative andwidely used system for specifying products and workmanship forconstruction projects.

It is a comprehensive library of written specification clauses supported withextensive guidance notes. Instead of a specification being written fromscratch clauses are selected by the specifier, so that the final document isproduced in a format which is widely recognised as the UK industrystandard.

Triflex (UK) Limited are integrated into the National Building Specification(NBS) Plus Specification Manager & Specification Writer packages. NBS Plusis an electronic library of participating building manufacturers productslinked to relevant clauses. It enables the insertion of correct, concise productdetails directly into an NBS project specification. These details are written ina format that integrates the product information with the specificationclause more easily, thus saving the specifier valuable time and producing aclear unambiguous proprietary specification.

The problemsInternal and external car park decks are often:

    Dark, dismal uninviting environments

Inadequately protected from water ingress andenvironmental damage, for example Chlorides andCarbon Dioxide, resulting in expensive structuraldamage

Surfaced with unsuitable, low technology materials, orthin coat systems which do not provide a long term, durable, aesthetically pleasing surface finish

Patchy and uneven as a result of surface wear

Difficult for drivers and pedestrians to use effectivelydue to poor design and signage

    Difficult to clean and maintain

The Triflex solutionThe Triflex DFS (Deck Floor System) provides internal andexternal car park decks with exceptional protection fromenvironmental, mechanical and physical damage, whileoffering almost limitless design options. Although groundfloor decks may not have the same structural protectionrequirements, the System will transform the environment forusers.

The heavy duty, thick layer Triflex DFS is suitable for almostany substrate likely to be encountered in the car parkenvironment both during refurbishment and new build. Thethick layer system can mask deck imperfections and profileswhich would reflect through thin coat systems.

At Triflex we understand that the majority of wear generallyoccurs on the ground floor, internal decks and ramps. TheTriflex DFS is designed to withstand this mechanical stress

    Triflex DFS Triflex creative CAR-PARKS

Triflex DFS(Deck Floor System) Car parks are important, particularly when attached to retail or offices as they can oftenbe your customers or clients first contact point. Creating the right impression can ensurerepeat business, a favourable first impression and possibly increased parking revenue.

Ground floor and internal decks are the most commonly used decks in the majority of carparks and their importance should not be ignored. Many decks may require structuralprotection and surfacing, however even ground floor levels where protection may not bean issue can benefit from a highly durable, aesthetically pleasing surface treatment.

Triflex has more than 20 years experience in providing long term waterproofing, surfacing and protection solutions for internal and external car park decks. Our thicklayer DFS ensures even the most difficult of substrates can be transformed. Subject to aconditional survey, the DFS - External variant can be specified in place of the Triflex PDSfor multi-storey top decks which are not over occupied premises.

External decks and rampsThe Triflex DFS - External variant allows the economical waterproofing and surfacing ofmulti-storey top decks provided that they are not over occupied premises.

The Triflex DFS - Ramp variant provides optimum traction and abrasion resistancecharacteristics, improving safety and ensuring the maximum system durability in thesehigh wear areas.

DURABILITY - The DFS is a heavy duty, thick layer system with a dry filmthickness greater than 4mm. With its' fully aggregate filled wearing course, theDFS is suitable for the waterproofing and surfacing, or surfacing only of heavilytrafficked ground floor, internal and external car park decks

PROTECTION - In addition to offering heavy duty surfacing, the DFS offerswaterproofing and protection from the ingress of Carbon Dioxide and Chlorides towhat are often neglected decks. The system can withstand the stresses fromthermal expansion and contraction, frost and UV radiation and is resistant to allcommon automotive fluids

THICK LAYER - The 4mm thick system helps mask deck imperfections, providinga more aesthetically pleasing, easier to maintain system. The system thicknessallows even profiled substrates such as lightly tamped concrete, heavily brushedconcrete or crimped asphalt to be overlaid without the original profile reflectingthrough

COMPATIBILITY - The system can be used to overlay concrete, asphalt, HRA,SMA and some existing membranes subject to testing

RAPID CURE TIMES - Allowing maximum flexibility in approach and theminimum disruption to the client and users. The maximum cure time beforetrafficking by vehicles of any of the system components is 3 hours

LOW TEMPERATURES - The system will cure at temperatures as low as 0C

DETAILING - Fully reinforced details can be incorporated at upstands, transitionsetc. to provide total waterproofing

COLOURS - Our range of finish options, and special colours ensure the clients'aesthetic requirements can be fulfilled. Dedicated pedestrian walkways and safezones, together with colour coding can be incorporated from the design stage

JOINTS - The system can be combined with the Triflex projoint system to providesingle source liability for the total waterproofing and surfacing package

RAMPS - For these areas, the Triflex DFS - Ramp offers optimum abrasionresistance and traction characteristics through the use of a basalt split aggregateand optional traction strips

Coating Systems for Internal Car Park Decks

  • 5Triflex DCS(Deck Coating Systems)In certain circumstances, where internal car park decks are new or in goodcondition, the main requirement may be to create an aesthetically pleasingenvironment, with a safe, anti-skid surface rather than to provide structuralprotection.

The Triflex Deck Coating Systems are designed to provide an economicalalternative to the Triflex DFS for these projects, and can be used in isolation orcombination with our other car park systems.

SuitabilityAs thinner layer systems, Triflex Deck Coating Systems are only suitable forsmoother substrates, in low and medium volume car park environments. Inhigh volume car parks, such as those directly connected to retail, the heavierduty Triflex DFS is recommended.

Deck Coating Systems are particularly suitable for smooth, power floatedconcrete decks which can cause a potential slip hazard when wet.

Further informationPlease contact Triflex directly to discuss the suitability of our range ofcoating systems for particular applications.

The problemsIn the majority of car parks, the markings are:

Of poor quality, wearing out in a relatively short periodof time and requiring regular replacement. If theoriginal markings are not removed prior toreplacement, the resultant build up is unsightly

Difficult to see, particularly when badly worn

Visually unexciting with white and yellow being theonly commonly used colours

Difficult to understand due to the use of small symbolsand difficult to read signage

Not used to provide assistance with deck identificationand location

The Triflex solutionThe Triflex DMS (Dynamic Marking System) addresses all ofthese problems and if used in a Dynamic design, can help totransform the parking environment for users. The vibrantcolour range of the DMS ensures that the markings can beeither matched to or contrasted against existing colourschemes and corporate designs.

The heavy duty DMS is suitable for application to almost anysubstrate likely to be encountered in the car parkenvironment and can be used stand alone or in combinationwith other Triflex car park systems.
