Newsletter Carlton In Snaith Community Primary School

Friday 31st March 2017

Last week:

Red Nose Day Success! What a fantastic effort from all of the school and wider community for Red Nose

last week (Friday). As I shared via a parent mail earlier in the week, we were absolutely delighted to raise

a fabulous total of £660.75!!! for this worthy cause. THANKS to everyone for their efforts and support!

Lots of children both in the UK and abroad will benefit from our generous donations. THANK YOU!

On Friday last week and Monday this week we enjoyed having almost 70 mums and grandmothers join us

over the 2 days of Mother’s day lunches. A great turn out – thanks to all who could attend! A huge thank

you too to Mrs Thompson, Mrs Schorah and Mrs Daly for cooking extra meals for this lovely occasion.

This week:

The hall has been a hive of activity throughout the week as Year 3 and 4 edge closer to their ‘Squabble

Box’ performance. I have tried to resist seeing any of the rehearsals (although I have heard bits!) and

can’t wait for next week’s performances on Wednesday afternoon and evening – please see additional

info within the newsletter for further details.

I enjoyed welcoming Education consultant Mike Smit back to our school this week. We spent time

visiting classes and discussing our reflective nature and drive for further school development.

Next week and beyond

We look forward to welcoming another new family to school on Monday, and then at least another

two more families after the Easter break. Our pupil numbers are increasing, which is great to see.

Wednesday 5th – Year 3 and 4 ‘Squabble Box’ performance at 2.00pm and 6.00pm (tickets only)

Friday 7th April: Easter celebrations: On the last day of term we traditionally have lots of Easter

themed fun. We continue the tradition this year. This includes:

Developing Lively, Inquiring and Creative Minds

Easter Bonnet and Hat Parade. Children are encouraged (both KS1 and KS2) to bring in and wear

an Easter Bonnet on Friday. We truly believe homemade are always the best. Any style of hat will

do – it could be homemade bonnet, or decorated cap or trilby. What will you wear? Be creative

and unique!

Children will then wear their hats or bonnet in our morning assembly and then again in the

afternoon parade.

Egg decorating and competition. I’m hoping we will have an ‘eggcellent’ competition again. Last

year we had some super designs, some topical news related eggs, some film, TV or book inspired

eggs and so much more .

Children need to bring an (undecorated) hardboiled egg or eggs in on Friday. They are also asked

to think about how they will decorate their egg in advance.

On Friday morning after assembly children will be given time in class to put their designs in to

practical action. Any items they particularly need to design their eggs need to be brought in too –

we will obviously supply basic things like coloured pens, paints etc. Time to ‘eggspress’ yourself

and have a ‘cracking’ time! Sorry for all the bad yolks!

This year I will be judging this competition – and will do this at lunch time. Prizes will be awarded

to the best eggs in each year group

Easter Parade. As mentioned later in the newsletter, all parents and families are welcome to

attend the Friends of Carlton coffee afternoon at 2.30pm. Raffle tickets and drinks will be

available. Children will come through the hall to show off their Easter Bonnets. We will be

announcing prize winners for both the above Easter Bonnet competition and the Egg decoration.

Fete Queen. Following Carlton tradition, next week, all Year 6 Girls will have the chance to put

their names forward (with parent’s permission) to Mrs Longfield to be the Fete Queen on the 17th

June. I will draw the lucky name out of the hat at the Easter coffee morning and announce who

will be crowned Fete Queen.

We break up for the Easter holidays on Friday 7th April - children return on Tuesday 25th April.

Staffing Update.

Mrs Taylor is unfortunately not going to be returning to work before the Easter break. We hope to see

her back to school fit and well soon.

Next week, we have similar arrangements in place to work with Ruby class in Mrs Taylor’s absence, with

Mr Brooks and Miss Johnson, supported by Mrs Stones, continuing their hard work with the children.

However, with an important North Yorkshire KS1 training day on Monday, and parent consultations on

Tuesday, some additional teaching staff will also be working with the Ruby children at the start of the

week. We are working hard to provide the best provision for our wonderful children, under the

challenging circumstances we find ourselves in. Thanks for your understanding with this matter.

Safeguarding Information:

Carlton in Snaith Community Primary School is committed to ensuring the welfare and safety of all

children in school.

We follow the North Yorkshire Safeguarding Children Board procedures. The school will, in most

circumstances, endeavour to discuss all concerns with parents about their child/ren. However, there

may be exceptional circumstances when the school will discuss concerns with Social Care and/or the

Police without parental knowledge (in accordance with Child Protection procedures). The school will, of

course, always aim to maintain a positive relationship with all parents. The school’s child protection

policy is available publicly.

The Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) is Jon Watson, Head teacher

and the person/s who deputise/s in his absence is Kathryn Taylor. The Safeguarding Governor is Mr

Michael Thomas and the Chair of Governors is Mrs Helen Snowden.

Keeping children safe is everyone’s responsibility. Should you have a concern regarding the safety and

wellbeing of a child please contact the DSL in the first instance on 01405 860736

or [email protected] or the deputy DSL on deputyheadteacher@carlton-in-

snaith.n-yorks.sch.uk.

Should you have a concern regarding policy and procedures not being followed then Michael Thomas

and Helen Snowden can be contacted via the school in writing or on [email protected]

yorks.sch.uk

Next week I will be sharing further safeguarding information with you in terms of our participation from

the 1st April with ‘Operation Encompass’, in partnership with North Yorkshire Police.

For further information please remember to check out our school website:

Thank you too for taking time to read our newsletter and for your continued support.

Regards and best wishes

Children are encouraged to take part in the voluntary big battery hunt over Easter. (Collection box and pupil booklet sent home this week).

Friends of Carlton school are continually trying to find new ways of raising funds for treats for the children in our school. If we can do that in

a fun way which brings the community together, then all the better!

We would like to ask all parents, carers, grandparents, family and friends to search their

cook books, to dig out those family favourites, the meals and recipes we can’t do without or those that only surface for very special occasions. We are then going to collate these

into a Carlton recipe book so we can share the best that Carlton has to offer.

Please dig deep, then email your submissions to [email protected] by 31/05/2017

India & Zoe in Amethyst class will be selling

these little Easter hats next

week. They've made

them over the past few weeks

and would like to sell them to raise some money for

school funds this Easter.

The cost is £1 for a Doodlebob with a small Easter Egg inside

or 50p for just the Doodlebob.

They will be on sale from Wednesday next week at breaks and

lunchtimes.

Thank you for your support.
