Dear Parents,

I wanted to start this week's newsletter with my thanks to all of you (which was

indeed most of you!) for responding to the school’s recent Parent Questionnaire.

Overall, we were delighted with the responses, which were extremely positive. 100%

responded with ‘agree strongly’ or ‘agree’ that they would recommend the school and

we do hope that you will support the school in this as we strive to provide the best

education we can and attract future pupils to the school. We were pleased that there

was such a positive response to other aspects involving the staff and leadership,

facilities and physical environment, the home school relationship and teaching and

learning. Comments have been taken on board, particularly regarding the sport and

extra-curricular activities and we are working to ensure that creative curriculum opportunities are varied and our

sports provision is of a high standard. Please can I remind you that the ParentView site for Langton Primary School

is always available for your comments and I would strongly encourage you to log onto the ParentView site which will

ask you for your feedback about the school. You can access this via the School website (Parents/ParentView).

We have been very happy to welcome Miss Stephanie House to the team while she is training to be a teacher. Steph

is going to be based in Class 3 and as part of her training, she is going to be carrying out research into the positive

effects of outdoor learning. I’m sure the children will be in for some creative fun outside!

We have now had our Stay and Play sessions running for four weeks. We have been pleased to welcome a variety of

different families but we would very much welcome other families who have pre-school children to our sessions.

Please spread the word.

Looming large on the horizon now is our Annual FoLS Christmas Fair. We hope that

as many families as possible will support this event, on Friday 1st December. There

is an awful lot of planning and organisation going into this event which I’m sure will

start Christmas off for us all. Santa will be arriving and we are particularly

hopeful that all our new families will be joining us as our Santa’s Grotto is really

something extra special. Santa will be sorely disappointed when he arrives at

Harrods and finds out that set-up is not quite as good as that at Langton Primary

School. Amongst many other stall and games, there will also be the opportunity to

purchase second hand uniform, however we do need donations of any old, good

quality school uniform you may have lurking at the back of your cupboards.

We were all so excited to hear that Miss Auckland her fiancé Chris are now the proud parents of Evie Grace. She

was born on Sunday 12th November, weighing in at 8lbs 10oz. All the staff

here at Langton send her many congratulations. We know she will make an

amazing mum as we see how fabulous Becky is with the children here at

Langton. Talking of babies, we welcomed our newest recruit, Mrs

McIlwaine’s daughter Florrie, last week, when she popped in to pay us a

visit. She was absolutely gorgeous!

Finally, thanks for your positive feedback about our website that we are

continuing to work on to complete. You may have noticed our revised

School Mission, Vision and Values. We do our best every day to fulfil

these for our children. They are included further on in this newsletter.

Remembrance Day

“On the tenth of November the whole school went to the village green in Langton and gathered round the memorial for the traditional remembrance service.

“First of all Mrs Ray said welcome to all the people who had come to join us and then she said a speech about all the soldiers who had died in the war. Then some of class 3 came up to read poems about the war that they had written themselves. Then Thomas R and Javan came up to read the famous poem Flanders Fields.

“After that we had a minute of silence and thought about the war. Soon after that Mrs Ray said some prayers and then we had finished our remembrance service.

“On the way when we were walking out the cornet was playing.

A Big Thank You from Pudsey and the School Council!

A huge thank you to everyone who donned their aprons and got

baking for Children in Need! The Cake Stall, ably run by the School

Council, raised a fantastic total of £89.75 (that’s a lot of buns!!) so

a cheque will be winging it’s way to Pudsey.

5 a side Football

Last week, we hosted our annual 5-a-side football tournament for schools in the Howardian Small Schools

Alliance on the playing fields at Leavening School. We took 4 teams and our new bag of footballs off—the

teams all made it back, the same can’t be said for all our footballs! Oli and Niall tell us more….

“On Thursday 9 November 2017 we went to Leavening football tournament. Lots of teams came from the local area: Langton, Terrington, Slingsby, Warthill, Sand Hutton and Leavening. All of the teams played well.

“There were 10 games before the semi-finals . Langton green won all of their games in the group stage, then it came to the semi-finals which was Langton green vs Terrington A and Langton won in a very close game, 3-2.

“Then it came to the finals which was Langton vs leavening A, Leavening won the trophy as they scored a very lucky goal to win 1-0. Overall Langton had a good day.”

Sportshall Athletics

“On Wednesday the 21st , 13 pupils went from Class 3 and 8 people in Class 2 went to

the sports hall athletics tournament.

“There were 5 other schools including Rillington ,Settrington, Norton, Malton and Welburn.

“There were 6 events which were: shot put, chest push, long jump, speed bounce, high jump, target throw and three relays for everyone. Everybody did 3 different events and 3 people a go.

“Unfortunately Langton only came 4th but they tried their best.

“We came 1st in the 1st relay. Robert, Ruby, and Millie came first in the target throw when they tried it. Elias, Leon and Josie were excellent in the speed bounce with Elias getting 88, Leon getting 86 and we don’t know what Josie got but we are still really proud of them all. Charlotte and Honor also put on a very good show in the Chest Push. Millie says, “I really enjoyed that and think that it was great experience and would love to go again. I think that most people in this room would agree.”

“In the first relay race there was Eddie, Oliver Th, Oliver T, Lola, Lily and Ella competing and they won.

“In conclusion we didn’t win but we tried really hard and had an amazing time.

“Mr Woods implored, ”even if the children aren’t proud of themselves I am really proud of them and really enjoyed the whole experience!”

FoLS Update

Thanks to those families who attended the Quiz Night last Friday; it was a good night! Maryann

prepared a super hard quiz, Rob was great as Quiz Master again this year and the Cricket Club

proved again to be a suitable venue.

A big thanks to Maryann for preparing the quiz and bringing in Rob. Also a massive thank you to all

the brilliant pie makers (Annabelle Hoste, Jane Parker, Helen Priestley, Ange Brooks, Charlotte

Slaughter, Maryann Jones and Maria Geherls) and those who donated towards the raffle, especially

Lisa who arrived with a very large teddy to draw the kids attention!!

Numbers were lower than last year however we still managed to raise a profit of £270!

Anti-Bullying Week 2017

“On Monday 13 November Anti-Bullying Week 2017 began. Class 3 began to learn a lot about cyber-bullying, so bullying over the Internet and through other forms of social media. Cyber bullying, like personal bullying, can upset the victims of it. A place to report behaviour like this is CEOP. It stands for Child Exploitation and Online Protection. If you are getting bullied over the Internet (cyber-bullied) report it to CEOP and everything will be sorted out quickly. That is what Class 3 has been learning about a lot this week.

“Class 3 started off by having a debate on ‘should children stand up or walk away from bullying and also making a Power Point on cyber-bullying. They researched a lot about CEOP and how cyber-bullies bully and upset people on the Internet. On Wednesday the 15/11 they had a visitor called Mr Conroy who talked to them about cyber-bullying and how they think. After that, on the same day, they designed a super-hero who fights bullies and cyber-bullies. They all created one, all of them unique, and then, the day after, Thursday; they wrote a story in English about their bully-fighting super-hero. Then, right at the end of the week, they looked at what all the other classes had been doing this week in the Friday assembly in the morning. All of the classes have been looking at a phrase this year: “All different, all equal”. They based a lot of posters and artwork of bullies and cyber-bullies, this week.

“Overall, it has been a very fun week. They all learned about bullies and cyber-bullies and what to do and all sorts. The week was from Monday 13th November 2017 to Friday 17 November 2017.”

Langton online!

We hope that many of you have had the chance to take a browse around our brand new website! The address

is the same as the old one—www.langton.n-yorks.sch.uk so please do take a look. The new site has a bright,

modern feel and we think it reflects the school fantastically! A big thank you to VTSDesign in Malton and Mrs

Lisa James (Henry and Lily’s mum) for their hard work in putting it together. Scrolling down the new front

page, you will also see our new Vision, Mission and Values, that have been created by staff, Governors and the

children (see below for more details). The website itself is still a work in progress so please bear with us while

sections are updated and documents uploaded.

Party on!!

The countdown to Christmas is now well and truly underway! This

year, we will once again be having Christmas parties for each class

during the final week of term. The parties will be held in the

afternoon after lunch. Each child may bring in clothes to change

into for their party and their own party bag of snacks to enjoy

(two out of the following three —crisps, a wrapped biscuit (such

as a Kit-Kat), piece of fruit). Drinks will be provided by school.
