Lunchtime News By Mrs Vardy (Lunchtime Leader)

Hello everyone It’s certainly very autumnal out there now, but do not fear, we have some lovely things in store to brighten up your lunchtimes! Next term, I will be organising your lunchtime house point treat for the house that has collected the most house points. Don’t forget to keep showing us how you can promote a caring playground environment, and you may be the winning house! Please let me know if you have some wonderful ideas for what treats you would like to take place. Kitchen News The kitchen remains to be very busy serving nearly 300 pupils with freshly produced lunches. For those children who have a hot dinner don’t forget we have a Halloween Lunch on Tuesday 31st October and a Bonfire Lunch on Friday 3rd November. Lunches can be paid half termly on Parentpay. KS2 Snacks KS2 snack payment for next half term will open on Parentpay from Monday 16th October and will close on Monday 30th October. No payments can be made after this time. Lost coats, cardigans, jumpers and lunchboxes If your child has lost a coat, jumper or cardigan please check under the pergola in the playground, we have a selection from last term that have not been claimed. As the weather is starting to become wet I will have to remove all coats that have not been claimed by half term. Thank you very much. This week’s lunchtime house point winners are Wallbank.

Starting School in North Yorkshire A reminder that if you have a child who was born between 1 September 2013 and 31 August 2014 they are due to start school between September 2018 and August 2019. Apply online by 15 January 2018 at https://www.northyorks.gov.uk/school-admissions. For more information please contact the school admissions, transport and welfare team on 01609 533679. Safeguarding Reporting a child’s absence If your child is unwell and will be absent from school, please let the school office know either by popping in or phoning the school and selecting option 1 to leave a message. Please could we remind all parents/carers that if your child suffers from sickness or diarrhoea they must be kept off school for 48 hours from the time of their last episode of sickness/diarrhoea. This timescale has been set by North Yorkshire County Council to help prevent the spread of sickness/diarrhoea to other children in school. Head Lice We have been advised of cases of head lice throughout the school. With half term approaching, please can we appeal to all parents to take this opportunity to check their children and treat them accordingly. Please see below for detailed advice. It is recommended that you inspect your child’s hair at least once a week throughout the school year. Head lice don’t always cause an itchy scalp (head) so many people will be unaware that they are infected. Sufferers only develop an itchy scalp if they become sensitive to the louse saliva, and this can take up to two months. If you suspect your child has head lice, please report any incidents to the school. Detection and effective treatment of any head lice outbreaks is key to reducing the problem. Treating head lice is not a problem and there are a number of effective treatments available from the pharmacy. It is recommended that the whole family should be treated when a child in the family has head lice and the treatment may need to be repeated for several days to catch all the nits and lice. To prevent head lice from spreading, it is recommended that children with long hair have their hair tied back/up for school. For further advice, consult your pharmacist or doctor. If you have access to the Internet you can obtain more information from Head lice - NHS Choices

Further support for families:

Welcome to the Junction

At Western we recognise that a pupil’s happiness and well-being are the foundation for their success and that it is essential to nurture, not just the academic progress of the child, but to look after the ‘whole person’.
