Read the following texts attentively. Hello! My name is Caroline. I was born in California fifteen years ago. California is a state in the USA famous for sunshine and oranges. That’s why I always start my day with a nice orange juice on my balcony and teach my parrot new words. On the other hand, my twin brother, Freckles, hates oranges. (Well, Freckles isn’t really his name, it’s just the nickname I call him when he teases me – which happens all the time… ) At school we are in separate classes: I have classes in the morning and he has classes in the afternoon. It’s a wonderful school and I love studying, especially English and Geography. That’s why this scholarship is a wonderful opportunity. In my spare time I love going to the movies with my neighbours and going to malls with my very best friend Frieda. Hi! I’m Scott, I’m Scottish and I’m a scout. Confused? Let me explain. I come from Scotland and I’m a boy scout. A scout is someone who loves nature, protects animals and helps people. In Scotland there are many green spaces with wild animals, so I spend most of my free time in the open air. My little sister Johanna is also fond of animals, but sometimes this can become a problem – you see, now there are ten of us at home! Let me explain again: me, my little sister, my parents and six pets – two cats, a rabbit, a squirrel, a hedgehog and a swan. Now you can probably understand why I don’t like school much, although I really enjoy Science. By the way it’s because of a science project that I have this scholarship.
