The Casa del Fascio is a building located in Como,northern Italy, a work of Italian rationalist architectGiuseppe Terragni.
Started in 1932 and completed in 1936 under the regimeof Benito Mussolini, this municipal administrationbuilding was originally constructed with a primary viewof functioning as an elegant "set piece" for mass Fascistrallies. Conceptualized as a classical palazzo centeredon a glass atrium, it was frescoed with abstractpaintings (since destroyed) by the artist Mario Radiceand the original project boasted an innovative changingfacade illumination. It is cited as an exemplarymanifestation of the International style ofarchitecture.[1]
Since 1957 the building houses the provincial headquarters of the Guardia di Finanza police force.[2] Inaddition, it accommodates the small historical museum of the Guardia di Finanza 6th legion.
