LazICC Rules • Divisions will be drawn at the opening ceremonies. • The cases are multi-disciplinary. As example, the cases could include the following subject

matters: finance, accounting, marketing, human resources, strategy, international business, and policy

• The competition will consist of two cases; a five-hour case and 24-hour case. All rules and details are discussed in the respective sections below

General Rules

• All competitors must be enrolled as full-time undergraduate students in their university • Teams are limited to four students • Cases will be selected by the LazICC Organizing Committee • As LazICC 2021 will be remote, PowerPoint submissions will be digital. Further

information will be provided to teams. • All judging decisions are final and will be reached by consensus, using the rubric as a basis

for comparison

Resources, Information and Rules (Both Cases)

• If Government and Safety Guidelines permit, you are allowed to gather in the same room while working on the case.

o Given current conditions, we believe gatherings of 4 will be allowed in each location however, if conditions are to change, we will review this rule.

• Each team is permitted up to four laptops (1 per team member). All the laptops used during the competition will be provided by the competing students

• Slides should be prepared using any PowerPoint version from 2007 to 2021 • LazICC will provide the following items:

o One digital copy of the case, which will be emailed to all four of the team members at the pre-selected time.

• Competing students can bring any items into the resolution room: o In particular, all materials created ahead of time (PPT slides, research documents,

etc.) are permitted • Once resolution begins and continuing until the presentation has been delivered, the

team is only permitted to communicate among themselves, with their designated LazICC ambassador, and with any other member of the LazICC organizing committee. Communication in any form with anyone outside of the above members is strictly prohibited. This prohibition on communication includes communication in any form with the case company and communication with faculty advisors.

• Teams will be provided with an email address they can contact during their resolution, should they have questions

• Presentations should be saved as a PowerPoint or PDF. • Teams may include Appendix slides after the concluding slide of their formal

presentation. They may refer to these slides while answering questions. These slides will also be provided to the judges

o All slides will be shared with the judges in a digital manner, i.e. via a laptop or iPad • Teams can use any PowerPoint templates, internet, software or databases they choose

Resolution Rules – 5 Hour Case

• Competing students are not allowed to communicate with any external parties including their faculty advisors

Resolution Rules – 24 Hour Case

• Competing students are not allowed to communicate with any external parties including their faculty advisors

Presentation Rules

• Participants are not permitted to identify their school during the presentation. No school logos or school names should appear verbally or visually

• All presentations will be completed remotely. Further information will be communicated with additional details on the presentation software.

• Teams will have 15 minutes to present their 5-hour case and 20 minutes to present their 24-hour case. Both presentations will be followed by a 10-minute Q&A session

o Time warnings will be provided. • Presentations will be cut off at the conclusion of the presentation time • Participation should be balanced across all students during the presentations and Q&A • The dress code for the students presenting is business formal. There is no official dress

code for the faculty advisors viewing the presentations • Faculty advisors are permitted to watch all presentations; competing students are not

permitted to watch the presentations of other schools • Recordings of all presentations will be made available after the conclusion of the

competition.

• Faculty advisors are not permitted to be in contact with their team from the time that the case resolution begins until the time at which the team has completed its presentation

• Following the 24-hour case presentation, faculty advisors cannot communicate with their teams until finalists are announced. Teams advancing to finals are not allowed to communicate with their advisors until final presentations are concluded

• A full copy of each case will be provided via email to the faculty advisors prior to the presentations

• Video or photographs of your team or others are not permitted. All presentations will be recorded and sent to faculty after the competition has concluded.

Judges Rules

• Judges will be selected by the organizing committee and will have a professional background, an academic background or both. Some of the judges may be from case companies

• All judging decisions will be made by consensus. If the judges are unable to reach a consensus, a majority vote will decide any decisions

• Judges will receive the case one week prior to the case presentation day. Judges will also be briefed on the case prior to watching the presentations

Scoring Rules

• Results of the 5-hour case will be communicated via email following the 5-hour case • The points of the 24-hour case and the finalist teams will be revealed via email • The teams that lead their respective divisions in points will be chosen for the finals. When

judging the cases, judges will provide the following values for points: o 5-hour case: Judges will distribute 2, 4, 6 and 8 points

(a 10-point score will also be included should there be 5 teams in the division) o 24-hour case: Judges will distribute 2, 4, 6, and 8 points

(a 10-point score will also be included should there be 5 teams in the division) • If there is a tie with the scores, the team with the higher score in the 24-hour case will

advance

Final Round

• The structure and rules of the finals are identical to those of the 24-hour case • The teams that advance to finals will use the same PowerPoint slides they had used for

their initial 24-hour presentation. No changes are permitted to the slides • Teams are encouraged to watch all final presentations. Teams in the finals are permitted

to watch the presentations which occur after they have presented • Judges in this round will be a combination of judges from the semi-finals and new judges

Inquiries & Penalties

• Non-compliance with any rules or requirements will result in disqualification • Any infringement should be brought to the attention of the LazICC Organizing Committee

as soon as possible • Any teams involved in an alleged infraction will be contacted and the faculty advisor will

meet with the Organizing Committee to discuss • Any clarification or interpretation of rules should be directed to the LazICC Organizing

Committee

Image Rights • In agreeing to participate in LAZICC, each member of the team, including the faculty

advisor, authorizes the Lazaridis School of Business & Economics to publish any photographs or videos taken during any aspect of the competition. These materials and participant names may be used in Wilfrid Laurier University print, online, social media and video materials
