Upon completion of this program, participants will be able to: • Wikle: Explain the causes of the opioid epidemic. Describe current trends in opioid
prescribing in Iowa as compared to the US. • Rathje: Explain how Emerge’s EFA-STM program can provide a more accurate
diagnosis, improve patient care and reduce lost time from work. • Van Dillen: Identify the influences and pressures behind our ethical choices.
Describe how case management values, procedures, and guidelines establish useful boundaries. Describe the Standards of Practice for a Case Manager as described on the CMSA website.
• Buckwalter: Summarize the causes, clinical presentation, and effective treat-ment of medial and lateral epicondylitis.
• Legal Update: Summarize the recent changes to Iowa’s workers’ compensation laws that are most consequential to occupational health and workers’ compensation professionals.
• Medical/Legal panel: Discuss difficult occupational medicine scenarios and how to best handle them with respect to both medicine and law.

Nursing CEUsThe University of Iowa College of Nursing is an Iowa Board of Nursing Approved Provider Number 1. Case Management: Care of Work-Related Injuries is approved for 6.0 contact hours on November 16, 2018. The Heartland Center requires full-time attendance for CEU award.
Case ManagersThis program has been pre-approved by the Commission for Case Manager Certification to provide continuing education credit to Certified Case Managers (CCMs). The course is approved for 5.0 CE contact hours, and 1.0 ethics contact hour.
