The project was divided between the MCD(22 acres) and DDA(60 acers).

MCD is responsible for the greenry development ,while as DDA is for civil beautification.

According to the director of horticulture,Y.P. SINGH ,DDA ,they had to fill 2-5 ft. of soil on the site to enable plantation.

From the point of view of maintaining these plants and trees, they chose hardy varieties which require less water.

It was difficult for the plantation due to the methane gas trapped in the soil.

The remedy was to insert a plastic hose pipe along with the saplings to escape gas.

The Millennium Indraprastha Park features a large amount of grass on its lawn. This grass is well maintained by the Delhi Development Authority.

This grass works very well alongside the large amount of trees and other pieces of greenery in the park.

There are more than two thousand trees around the area. In fact, the DDA plans on adding more than five thousand different trees around the park in the future. These will come through saplings.

Right from the entrance you can see different variety of plantation in terms of color, texture, shade and scale.

LAWRENCE HARPIN an eminent landscape architect says “if one can step for a moment into an outdoor space, no matter how small or big and get a glimpse of sky and the smell of the earth, trees and flowers then the overwhelming scale and density of urban life can be largely overcome. With this concept of ecological approach to landscape architecture, the park is bifercated in five gardens or green landmarks.

As a foreground to the Humayun's tomb, the Fragrant Garden bridges the past with the present.

It has shrubs and trees, along with White-scented flowers. This enhances the aura of the tomb at night, making it a moonlit garden emitting fragrance everywhere.

The scents from plants are an aesthetic experence. They have very elusive, undefinable qualities which get captured in the human psyche.

FOILAGE GARDEN

The Foliage Garden lies at the junction of Ring Road and Bhairon Road.

A Railway embankment and the drain passes through the site.

Towards the junction a fountain is provided as a focal point. The water courses follow the shape of squares and rectangles, making an enchanting water cascade.

The Railway embankment has been upgraded by providing terraced planting. Different foliage will be planted in a way to add colours to environments

Bougainvillea (Bougainvillea spp) is a woody vine desirable for its colorful, showy appearance. These evergreen plants can be grown as a sprawling vine, compact shrub or trained to grow on one trunk, like a tree. Bougainvilleas thrive in warm, humid environments and add a splash of color to a bright, sunny location in the landscape.
