Dear Students and Parents:
Hello from Casey Middle School! As I prepare for my first year as Principal, I have had the opportunity to take time this summer to imagine the possibilities for 2017-2018, and I am exhilarated. I have already been fortunate to connect with some of our amazing students and families, and have spent the last days of August with our staff preparing for our first day on September 5. I am continually impressed by the thought, care, and positivity they show in all that they do with our students. They are true professionals who appreciate the weightiness of the work we do.
I am happy to introduce Mr. Chris McDuffie, who will be serving as our Acting Assistant Principal at Casey. Mr. McDuffie has served as a Health and PE teacher at Casey for the past five years. He has a history of success as teacher and coach, knows and understands Casey's unique culture and amazing students, and is an outstanding leader. We are fortunate to have him .
We have just wrapped up our hiring process for a number of teaching ositions. Our new teachers ·11 ready to start on September 5! You can learn more about this impressive group in the "Meet the New Teachers" section of this newsletter. We are confident that these professionals will add much to the life and growth of our students.
I am happy to announce that we will host an Open House on Wednesday, September 27th. At 6:30 pm, parents will report to their child 's first period classes and will have the opportunity to run through their child's abbreviated schedule to get a sense of their day and teacher expectations for the coming year. You will need a copy of your child's "A" day schedule, which can be printed off WITS. This evening is for parents/guardians only.
I am grateful to our supportive and active PTSA, and I look forward to working with them this year. I welcome:
Co-Presidents: Shari Peer and Karen Schiff Co-Vice Presidents: Gretchen Olearczyk and Julie Williams Secretaries: Christine Hill and Julie Bastible Treasurer: Nicole Giambrone
We are looking forward with enthusiasm to welcoming our students back to Casey on September 5th . Please carefully read this newsletter and make note of important dates and events that are approaching . We hope to see you at Open House.
With gratitude,
Peter Dobmeier Principal

With the beginning of the academic school year fast approaching, I have begun to reflect on how
fortunate I am to work in such an amazing building with incredible students and staff. Each new school
year, to me, represents an opportunity for hope and growth. I encourage everyone to get involved and
take full advantage of the Casey experience as we gear up for the 2017-2018 school year!
Our theme for the 2017-2018 school year is "Dreams Work When You Work" and at Casey Middle School
we believe, students grow and achieve when they have opportunities to be unique and authentic. We
place an emphasis on developing the whole student, as our students will be the leaders of tomorrow.
To assist and help them achieve their dreams, we believe that collaboration and team work are
imperative.
I look forward to celebrating your child's continued growth and many successes with you . My best
wishes to all for an amazing 2017-2018 school year!
Mr. Chris S. McDuffie
Acting Assistant Principal

MEET THE NEW TEACHERS AT CASEY MIDDLE
Hello! My name is Christina Ruggeri and I am the GT regular sub for this year. I am super excited to be here and cannot wait to get started! My base certification is in mathematics and I also have a strong background in statistics. However, I enjoy teaching and learning about a wide range of subjects. On a personal note, I am an avid sports fan and extremely passionate about the Buffalo Sabres. I also enjoy baking, gardening, theatre, and music. I am looking forward to working with all of you!
Hello! My name is Lauren Metzen and I am the new ESOL teacher at Casey. I grew up in Hamburg, New York and now live in the city of Buffalo. I have an undergraduate degree from SUNY Geneseo in Psychology and Spanish. My Masters degree is from Buffalo State College in Early Childhood and Childhood Education along with an advanced certificate in TESOL (K-12). I love to travel in my free time. I studied abroad in Barcelona, Spain and was an au-pair in Madrid, Spain. I can speak Spanish fairly fluently and love learning new languages! This past summer I was in Cape Town, South Africa teaching English. I also enjoy learning to dance and am currently learning salsa dancing. I am excited to start this new school year with you all!
Hello everyone! I'm Jeanine Slipko! I'm delighted to be part of the Casey Middle School team . I'll be part of the LOTE department teaching French! I look forward to meeting all of my students and can't wait to get started!
I have 13 years teaching experience and have taught both middle and high school levels. I studied at the Catholic University of Lille, France and bring a lot of culture to the classroom. I've been a part of many excursions to Europe and Quebec with students, where I get the chance to be a part of their excitement and love of language.
Currently I reside in Williamsville with my husband and three children. My children attend Maple West where I'm active in the PTA.
I enjoy cultural activities, singing, music, cooking and traveling.
-
Hello Casey Middle! My name is Jenna Roller and I am excited to be joining the LOTE department. I will
be teaching 5th and 7th grade Spanish here at Casey, and two classes at North High School. The year
prior I taught at North and Mill Middle. This will be my 9th year teaching Spanish and it is an absolute
privilege to be joining such a talented faculty here at Casey. Outside of the school day I spend time with
my husband, two dogs, and my horse. I look forward to meeting you all and being able to teach at such
an awesome school!
Hello my name is Morgan Waple. I will be a half time Teaching Assistant this year at Casey working
with grades 5 and 6. This is my second year working in the Williamsville School District. Last school year
I was at Heim Middle School. I graduated with my undergraduate degree from Daemen College and my
master's degree from Canisius College. I taught WOW summer classes through Williamsville Community
Education this past summer. I will also be teaching swimming lessons this school year on Sundays
through community education as I am a certified lifeguard . I coach Boys JV Volleyball at Lockport High
School and a boys 12U travel volleyball team for the Lockport Volleyball Club. When I am not teaching or
coaching, I am often found on the court or field playing softball or volleyball. I also ski and snowboard in
the winter.
Hello Casey Middle School. My name is Heather Krieger. I have 3 children who have all gone through WCSC; Two East graduates and a current sophomore. I have been married for 23 years and reside in Williamsville. I began teaching science at Casey Middle in 1992 and then moved to Transit Middle when it opened the following year. In 2004 I became certified in Gifted and Talented and taught in that position for the past 13 years at Heim Middle. I have always been interested in technology both in and out of the classroom, and will now be serving as the Technology Integrator at Casey Middle and East High Schools. Turn Markers Into Energy!
Dear Parents,
We have two ongoing recycling programs at Casey Middle School. One is done in conjunction with Crayola and the other is with Nike/Converses.
The first program is called Crayola ColorCycle. With this program you and your child(ren) can collect used, ready to be discarded markers. The markers will be sent to a facility where they will be converted into clean fuel. This fuel can be used to power vehicles, heat homes, cook meals and more!
The other program is called Nike Grind. In this program, you and your child(ren) can collect used, ready to be discarded sneakers. The sneakers are sent to a facility where they are separated into three parts and ground into small segments. The resulting product will be used in playgrounds, track surfaces, tennis and basketball courts, equestrian surfacing material, and architectural structures all over the world.
Please help support our efforts by saving and encouraging your children to save used markers and ready to be discarded sneakers. ALL brands of markers and sneakers are accepted. A clear plastic Drop-off box will be located in the school's entryway for you and your child(ren) to deposit the markers and a tan trash can with a swing lid will be there for the shoes. The containers will be there throughout the year (including the summer), so feel free to recycle your markers and sneakers at any time.
Thank you in advance for participating! With the help of parents and students like you, we can keep tons of plastic and sneakers out of landfills each year.
Sincerely,
Ginny Hemmer, Casey PTSA

About the Williamsville Music Boosters
We are fortunate to have an outstanding music program in the Williamsville School District. The District has been recognized ten times as being one of the top music education programs in the country. The quality of the music program is the result of the dedication and hard work of our music educators, our parents, our students and the long standing recognition by the District that education in music is vital to the overall development of our students.
Williamsville Music Boosters is proud to support this excellent program by providing support for special music enrichment projects for students in the district, such as:
• Hosting renowned guest conductors and clinicians who work directly with music students • Commissioning of new music works by distinguished composers • Supporting elementary field trips to see the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra • Sponsoring of other music events that go beyond students' classroom experience
Additionally, Music Boosters provides: • Financial support for students who attend regional and national events* • College scholarships for district students pursuing college music programs after high school
graduation* • Sponsorship of the Williamsville Summer Music Program
*Note that some programs provided by the Boosters require family membership in the Williamsville Music Boosters
Through your membership, Williamsville Music Boosters invites you to support music in our schools, and the important life skills that music education develops in our students. You can find an application on the reverse side of this page, at most concerts, or online at the Williamsville Music Boosters website, www.williamsvillemusicboosters.com.
