It took nine innings forRaymore-Peculiar to over-come rival Belton. The Panthers finallycaptured a 2-1 victory for
the Class 4, District 13championship Oct. 11 atGrandview.
The win was an impor-tant one to Raymore-Pecu-liar, especially to its fiveseniors.
“It was extremely im-portant,” Raymore-Pecu-liar senior catcher Rebe-kah Mueller said. “It is mysenior year and it’s Beltonand belton is our rival. Weknew we had to come backand fight and get it. Andwe got it.”The first five inningsflew by, with the score re-
maining at 0-0. Bothteams struggled to string
together hits and with se-nior Emily Ross on themound for Raymore-Pecu-
liar and senior Katie Gia-cone throwing for Belton, the game looked to be apitcher’s duel.
But in the top of thesixth inning, with twoouts, Mueller connectedwith a fastball and the ballsailed over the center fieldwall for a home run. Ray-
more-Peculiar led 1-0.“I felt great,” Meullersaid. “As soon as the pitchwas pitched, I knew it. My
bat, we have a good con-nection. I felt great afterthat, pumped up and readyto go.”
But in the bottom ofthat inning, the Pirates an-swered back. SophomoreGabrielle Biondo was hit
by a pitch and junior AnnaBiondo hit a sacrifice buntGabrielle Biondo to sec-ond base.
Giacone hit a long flyball to center field thatwas caught, but not beforeGabrielle Biondo made it
home to knot the score at

Harrisonville figuredthey would meet up withold rivals Pleasant Hill inthe Class 3, District 13championship game. The Wildcats, seededNo. 2, weren’t the favoritesto bring home the crownagainst No. 1 seeded Pleas-
ant Hill Oct. 11 at Warrens-burg.
But Harrisonville
proved they could, slippingpast the Chicks 2-0. “Playing Pleasant Hillin the district champion-ship game was one of thosethings we kind of figuredwould happen,” Harrison-
ville head coach Dave Hixsaid. “Our girls were readyphysically and mentally. Ithink beating them at ourplace two weeks ago reallygot the girls in a positive
mindset that they could doit again.”The Wildcats scoredtheir first run in the top of
the second, as Hannah Ben-nett singled to center field, followed by a single fromTaylor Jones to right field.
Jocelyn Winter was hit by apitch from Pleasant Hill’sCourtney Fountain to loadthe bases.
With one out, Madi Kit-tilstad reached first on afielder’s choice to thirdbase, but Bennett was
forced out at home plate. Then Baylee Goss singled
on an error by Pleasant Hillto send Miranda Ferguson(the courtesy runner for
Jones) home. Harrisonville scoredagain in the top of the thirdinning starting with a sin-

ahead 2-0.“We always challenge
our girls that if you want tobe the best, you have tobeat the best,” Hix said.“We have had some goodgames with Pleasant Hill indistricts over the years andthis game just adds to that
rivalry legacy. They arewell coached and neverquit coming at you.”The rivaling teams, bothin the Missouri River Val-
ley West Conference, hadplayed twice earlier in theseason, with the Chicksgrabbing one victory, while
the Wildcats earned anoth-er.
“We had split with themearlier in the season, butnone of that matters at thispoint in the season,” Pleas-ant Hill head coach LisaDowdy said. “We came outa bit flat, but never gave up.We missed a few signs, stayed strong defensively, but just couldn’t get ourbats going. We justcouldn’t lay off the highpitch. Sometimes that is the
way it goes. That is not theway we wanted to end ourseason.”
Harrisonville was led onthe mound by Jones withseven innings, allowingeight hits and striking outthree batters.
